There is a story from a coach in Kansas thats called a Boy's Idols that is very solid. It has always been in the back of my mind since 8th grade. It talks about how he looked up to older kids and how cool he thought they were even though they made poor decisions. He found them later in life struggleing to fit in to the community. It then hit him what if some kid was looking up to him and he let him down. Its really can relate to kids today.

Iowa State Maybe South Dakota St and South Dakota. If you're in the area, goto Augastana in Sioux Falls, Salem runs a good program there. Sioux Falls College is solid as well. They may be making the jump from NAIA to DII here in the next few years.

I saw the same thing. It is one thing to be happy for your friends but some were jumping around and dancing with them. I was alway Pi$$ed as hell when we lost and sometimes even when we won ugly. Methinks its going to get ugly in Philly.

Anyone know if Coach Creehan is going to run the wing-t there? His OC was the QB for the Akron Zips a few years ago.

Iowa- Adam Timmerman (Cherokee) went to South Dakota State. Was a OL for the Rams when they were good. He was a beast.
South Dakota- I'd have to say Greenway. I played with Leber's brothers in college, that whole family was good. Viniteri is solid as well.

Our conference uses that Game film solutions and we can get what ever tape we want of the opponent if its on the server. We cannot get other teams who use the service that are non conference unless we call GFS and tell them to let a trade go through.

I was looking at the Iowa High School football playoff brackets and noticed that those boys will be playing 4 games in a 2 week time span. Thats a lot of football with not much recoup time. Minnesota is not much better. Any other states have anything like that.

I am on a staff that went 0-9 last season. The jr class (then sophs) said they never wanted to experience that again and worked their tails off in the fitness center. We changed our offense to fit our personel better and this season we finished 6-2 with a little help. We are a 3 seed going into our first playoff game tomorrow night. Find the leaders and let them lead.

I have taken Lunesta for my anxiety. It has done wonders. NO groggyness in the mornings. Brain activity shuts down and you have a deep dreamless sleep. Sometimes it may taste like someone crapped in your mouth in the mornings, but I can get some sleep now during the season.

Let he and his parents go. Then when you play them throw in a few wrinkles in his direction and let his old teammates tee off on him. Let the scoreboard and shoulder pads do the talking and smile big when you shake his hand.

We don't do anything as a total staff in the summer. During school on the end of the 3rd quarter day, our staff go on a trip to a college to go watch some spring ball and talk with coaches. Our staff has gone to Iowa, Iowa St., Northwestern, Augastana SD. If we take 2 vehicles the o is in one and the D in other. But either way we discuss personel, practice set up, O and D goals, at risk players and schemes for the next season. We then have the summer to install and tweak what we discuss. The colleges have been great to talk to and we get a lot done as a staff. We get a lot of work done and we consider it staff development even though it doesn't come out of that budget and we pay for it all.

As one of the freshmen coaches last year I had a parent on the sideline telling his son to play man instead of cover 3. That lasted about 3 plays (2 for TD's) and he was standing by his dad on the sideline. When dad asked why we benched him we told him when he's ready to play our defense he can get back out there. Nothing is worse than an ignorant over zealous parent. Our fastest player would take himself out of games to talk with his buddies on the sidelines. He didn't pay much attention in practice either which really hurt us because several plays were just for him to use his speed. One game he had 4 fumbles and 2 dropped kick offs. In our last game vs a big rival he kept lining up wrong (which I'll take the blame for because we must not have practiced it enough the last 8 weeks) and when it was crunch time he took himself out. Dad was very upset why his boy wasn't out there when according to dad "He's the only athlete this whole school gots". I'm glad that season is over with. The best part is I am now moved up to the sophs and get to go through it all again, but there are now more eyes and rules to follow to help this process.

We have 2 middle schools feed into our high school as well. We also get several kids from a rec league that is heavily recruited by the private schools (7) we compete with. I feel the coaches try to keep it close, but they find a niche of what has worked for them and tend to get off the same page as us. The rec team has nothing to do with us at all.

B- We were fortuante enough to have a QB start for 3 years who had a gun. Now we have an imcompitent douschebag of a kid (I mean that is the nicest way possible) who thinks he's D1 bound too. We look at the type of kids we have in the system and adjust things to them. I loved going spread and running the option and smash series out of them. This season we have a bunch of small chippy backs who are undersized but very strong and aggressive and like to compete. We are installing the Wing-T with them. We look to keep it for the next few seasons. When we develop another QB I don't know if we'll change or not. One thing that always his us hard is kids we count on don't show up in the fall because they get the "Hoop Dreams" going. Our school has a solid b-ball program (2nd in state last season Ranked the last 4) and that coach (who is a good guy and can "recruit" from other sports) gives these kids the idea that they are all varsity starters. We already lost 1 soph QB and 1 varsity WR to the b-ball program. I personally feel that the kids don't like the contact and the competition and they feel the sport is to much work for 9-10 games. Not the kind of kids I would want when the game is on the line. The pressure would kill them.

Growing up, we always wanted to wear the number of our favorite high school player. It was a thing with our school that certain numbers carried history with them. I was #75 which was the most prominent lineman number. Other numbers like 24, 34, 12, 19, and 66 which held meanings were given out by the coaches to the players who proved they could live up to the history of the number. It was cool at the time. But my friend who was a great linebacker wore the number 67 and was one of the first ones to wear it, got to make his number great. Kids want his number now. I can see it both ways.

This year our conference is going to try putting all the games on a server and then all coaches have access to them by Sat. morning. We will have access to all schools games and we just have to download them. Coaches meet Sat morning at 7 and kids come in at 8 to lift, run, and review clips of our game and the next opponent. JV plays Sat mornings as well so usually we go help them out if it's home. We are going to try getting the next week planned out on Fridays after our game this season. I"m not quite shure how its going to go or how long that will last.

Go for it!!! The Vikings brought in a guy who is in a wheelchair a few years ago to help with their kickers. He's one of the best in the business. Let your knowledge shine.

I was on the phone with our OC today and my 1 year old daughter was in the room. We are installing the wing-t this summer and I asked him what he wanted our best series to be. My daughter who can only say 3 words goes "Buck Buck Buck" he heard her over the phone and just about pi$$ed himself laughing. She's a keeper.

If you can find them, Neumann makes one of the the best linemen gloves I've ever used. Long lasting and hold up well in the wet conditions. Can get in either full finger or half finger.

Remind the family to cherish all the good memories they had togther and laugh about some of the memories. They are in a place where they are in no pain and are taken care of. That always brings peace to me when these types of things happen.

Last season before they needed me in the booth, I was the special team organizer. I had the area 45-45 all to myself with no one else. When we had a special team coming up I'd yell out what team I needed and had a list of who was on the field and who should be with me. We never had too few or too many and never were late getting anything off. It worked well for us.

www.glazierclinics.com/megasite/drills/index.php?db_name=drillsHere are some sites through the Glazier site. If you went to any of thier clinics you can get to thier online videos and presentations. Really good stuff. I am getting ready for my 5th season of freshmen ball and getting as many kids out there is the best thing you can do. Our freshmen practice with the varsity up through indy and then we break off because we have a different time frame to work with. One thing I like to do is find a time during the week to scrimidge the sophs. Beating on different bodies motivates them on both sides. Freshmen want to show them up and sophs don't wnat to loose to a little guy. Even if it is a few series, let them go at it.

What really grinds my gears is when we are in cover 3 or cover 2 and we have parents yelling at their kids to "go where he goes" for man coverage. Even though it is the freshmen level I get po-ed when they do that. When every dad thinks their 14 year old son is a shut down corner and he vacates while the other team runs a flare or wheel route adn he gets burned. Funny how the parents think they know the schemes better than the coaches based on how their kid was in Pee wee ball. After he gets burned a few times and is standing next to dad because he can't figure it out usually gets both their attention.

Currently our school ends its day at 2:20. I am at the HS by 2:30 and pre practice begins at 2:45. Our district is now looking at a new schedule of time and that would put practice back roughly a whole hour and we'd finish around 6-6:30. Having been spoiled by the early time I was wondering if that is about right for times. What times do you usually finish up when you are in season?

In our district the HS pays $180 for a sport and the middle school pays $105. We are a 1st ring suburb in the twin cities. I have heard costs both a bit higher and lower in the area, but not by much. There is a $450 family limit. So we tell them to have a bunch of kids in sports.

It looks like a friggin goat rodeo out there.
He's not my QB he's the schools QB
Don't give their D-coord too much credit. He's coaching in high school football for cripes sake not the GD NFL.
During Up-downs in 2-a-days and a kid is laying face down on the ground about ready to puke. "I sure as heck hope the reason you are laying there like that is you luckally found a hole left over from a ground squirrel."

From all my experience with the wing - t I've been told that the FB is the most important back to move the ball. if you get shut down on 1st and 2nd down or get into long yardage situations the offense can almost work against you. Many of you are much wiser than myself and have a lot more experience no doubt. Some people will live and die with the wing-t, but I think it takes a few years and many reps to get it down. We see ourselves of having a 2 year window with a superior sophmore class. I do'nt know if we'd be able to compete as well as a team whose been running it for several seasons.
