I don't like their music. I don't understand it, I guess. So...NO. Play the music you like then. That's what we do.

I played in high school, 4 years in college at Wisconsin Whitewater, have coached the last 12 years in high school and can't ever remember tackling in practice once the season starts. To me this is a non story. Isn't this what everyone already does anyway?

You want to give the QB some grass to throw to when running a route up the sideline.

The Minnesota sucking is a real factor in NDSU's success. Also the fact that there is only 1 D1 in Wisconsin is a factor. A lot of quality football players are left with the choice of walking on for Bucky or taking the scholarship to Fargo. Some decide they don't want to live in Fargo and end up at Whitewater or Oshkosh or Duluth.
You guys have to quit this BS with meshparker. I cannot stand to read anymore of it.

We use our phones. Everyones clock is the same not very difficult to stay on schedule. I hated segment clocks when I played in college. It made the whole thing drag when you knew how much longer you had to be in a certain drill.

Keep it the same but shorten things. Body's are beat up this time of year. Keep your dudes fresh for the playoff run.

Every week is the same. If you had some magic bullet to help you win this week why the hell wouldn't you use it every other week.

"Eyes"
I would guess I say this word at a pretty high volume at least 100 per practice. Usually to remind our D to get their eyes on their keys before the snap. But other times I will just randomly say "eyes" while leading a drill that doesn't require much with their eyes. Funny how our brains work.

This is garbage football. I can't believe there are 2 pages of comments here about it. 3 games in a week? What a joke. I'm pretty sure most of our high school teams could beat these teams.

This is why I don't like the term family when used in the context of creating a team. you guys are a family..really?? But isn't that what family is. There may be times when you hate your brother but when sh!t hits the fan he is still your brother. In season our players see each other more than their families. Just sayin

I love football. Been involved in football since I can ever remember. Played college football. But man, in some of these states with what some of the football coaches are calling football. I think I would learn to hate football really fast.

I just go to clinics to drink beer and not attend any speakers. Not true. But some people do this. Oh I didn't know you were a member of my previous staff that I $hit canned Settle down guys. Our staff goes to the clinic's to get sh!tty and have some fun. When everyday is a football clinic for me I don't feel the need to act all clinicy when at the clinic. The bonds made over a 2 night bender are awesome. The rest of the days of the week we get plenty of football done.

No. I would bet we haven't had a total of 90 minutes of full contact in the last 6 years combined.

Spotify is where its at. Create your own playlists in the classroom then we stream it from a phone. Save the playlists so as the season goes along you have quite a few to choose from.

We just look at our phones. Everyone is on the same time. I've never liked the idea of a giant clock counting down the practice. When I played in college we had a timer it just made the periods last forever.

I'd suggest 2 platooning. With that many players you are doing the majority of your roster a diservice by having them play 2 spots. The 2 and half to 3 new starters will do just fine with double the reps. And your 2's will be that much better and more prepared for the following season.

I haven't been around a pracitce in over 10 years where anyone wore practice pants. How many of you do this? We just where the girdle and shorts. The kids buy their own girdle.

Take your JVs and have them run their own Skelly, Inside, Team. That will take your numbers down in the 40's. Then have 2 scout groups vs your 1's and 2's. Pretty good numbers to have.

I wouldn't think that the field would be frozen at this point in the year. Snow is really a non factor unless you are playing in a blizzard. I would prefer snow to rain. Now if the field is frozen you may not want to wear cleats. Basketball shoes would be better.

I've learned over the years to just worry about coaching your own guys. Thats a big enough job. Don't worry about how the other coaches coach their guys.

Aren't all the Pro sports champions Team first type teams. MLB Red Sox, Giants, Cardinals. NFL Seahawks, Ravens, Giants, Packers, Saints. NBA Spurs, Heat, Mavericks, Lakers.
What the Spurs do is actually the norm for championship teams across all sports. Which shouldn't be any new news amongst people here. That is just what it takes to win at the highest level.

It would be a lot easier if we didn't have to deal with parents. For the most part they are helpful, but we all have horror stories. I finally figured out I feel like parents are just "agents" - even the good ones are still agents - they all want the best deal they can get for their kid. Plain and simple. They want the team to win, but they want their kid to play a role in that and usually a bigger role than they are playing. Some parents/agents will ask for the best deal others will work for it, others will just expect it. But even the best parents - guys I've had coach with me for years are still agents when it comes to their child. They're not good people or bad - just agents. This is a really good post. I believe the less contact that you have with parents the better. The coaches that I observe being "open" and "proactive" with parents get burned every time. Its an OK post and I get it from a coaches perspective. But as a parent I just see them as parents. Parents want the best for their kids. Well no sh!t. Hell when I watch my 7 year old daughter do gymnastics I get pissed at the coaches if I think there is too much standing around or no flow. Luckily I'm smart enough to keep my thoughts to myself. As a football coach it drives me insane though.

It's even better now that we film practice. So if a parent wants to know why their kids isn't playing as much as they'd like you can invite them in to watch some practice on hudl. They usually don't have time for that.

Definatly longer. Thats why these college games don't fit into the 3 hour TV window anymore. This only applies when the game is close and there is no running clock involved.

For us we send the players into the locker room and get them water or tape or whatever they need. At that thime our staff is talking through what has happenend during the first half and what needs to be addressed. After 4-5 minutes our OLine will meet with our OC/OLine staff while the DC talks to the D as a whole group. Then the OC can talk through any adjustment to the entire O. Sometimes the D needs more time sometimes the O needs more time. We comeback our close to when the clock hits zero. Then they add 3 minutes for teams to warm back up. We circle stretch do some jumping jacks and then head to the sideline. This is the only way I've ever done it between coaching, playing in college and high school.

Never have had to address it ... we always arrive to away games 2 hours ahead of time. Once they enter the locker room and begin to prepare for specials there is plenty of time to get their minds right for game time. The majority have their ear buds in listening to music or are taking a nap while on the bus. Every one has their way of preparing to be at their best on game day. What do you do for those 2 hours? Maybe a hijack, but why some people get places so early has always fascinated me. We aim for 1 1/2 to 1 1/4 before game time. Play on my phone! Then go out for pregame 1 hour before kick.

We I hear a coach talk about "my QB" or "my LB" he is immediately classified as a total D Bag.
