Not sure if it was just me but that was a respectful heavyweight championship bout last night and more why I coach this great game. No crazy individual celebrations for just doing your job. Minimal trash talking. Receivers weren't getting up pulling flags even though coverage was aggressive.Saw a number of examples of players beating the crap out of each other till the whistle then a little head slap acknowledgement at the end. Even refs were helping pick guys up. No undisciplined penalties. Celebrations were TEAM celebrations. Result=Awesome game. (didn't like the back door cover though)
Watching that Cinci-Pitt game I was starting to wonder about this game.Is it coaching? Maybe when money creeps into the picture guys just get crazy but gimme some more NCAA stuff any day.

I think some of it is familiarity, that was the 3rd time Cincy and Pit have played this year, and something like the 8th or 9th time they've played over the last 4 years, they've had time to get to know and dislike eachother

If Alabama had to play Auburn for the national title the game would have been chippy. Plus who cares about celebration in the NFL? If you don't want to see a celebration then don't let them score.

I just don't watch the NFL because of celebrations. I prefer high school and D3 or D2 over anything else.

NFL is inferior in so many ways to college ball. I only watch my local team with regard to NFL football (and that's only because they're good every year)...but I'll watch any random college game I can find.

Is there any way to make this thread about coaching? Kiffin called a good game? Great coaching kicking the onside? Narduzi was awesome on the megacast

Narduzi was awesome on the Film Room broadcast. His insights (and those of others) were really solid. I hope ESPN continues this in the future.
Threads on this board are supposed to be about coaching.

This is off-topic but since groundchuck brought up the Film Room, did anyone hear them talking about the red line and receivers shouldn't cross it so they don't get too close to the sideline? They said it was like 5-6 yards from the sideline. I didn't catch all of it.

You want to give the QB some grass to throw to when running a route up the sideline.

I watched 90% of the game with the coaches analyzing the game. So much more interesting and insightful.

They said it was like 5-6 yards from the sideline. I didn't catch all of it. I've always operated with that process, that the WR needs that room to adjust to a fade. what is interesting are teams like Baylor sacrificing that adjustment to widen the field even more alignment wise

Is there any way to make this thread about coaching? Hey Fantom. I guess that is what i was getting at. Seems like coaching staffs for both teams last night have a great handle on their kids and the discipline issues. It was a pleasure to watch. Versus in the NFL not so sure it is as easy to control those factors when a lot of guys are making more than you and benching them or reduced playing time might not be an option

Not a Kiffin fan at all, and it sickens me to say it, but he's done a hell of job at Alabama. They don't win last night with whoever was the OC before him....the current Florida OC I beleive. Film Room was great. I thought Muschamp was pretty good too, though he was maybe a bit technical for the average joe, as he was calling out the specific calls and adjustments Saban/Kirby Smart were calling given his familiarity with Saban's system, like "They were in Cover 1 Funnel" or "they were in Cover 2 Buster" etc., but I thought it was cool.

Kiffin called a good game? Great coaching kicking the onside? Narduzi was awesome on the megacast Kiffin never calls a good game. Agree. He didn't dial up those "blown coverages" and his first down play calling led them into a ton of third and longs. Kept hammering Henry in there when it wasn't there and then on the goal line runs a naked bootleg that shoulda been blown up. And he wears a different colour jacket than the rest? How do I really feel about the guy? LOL Actually I thought he did a better job in the semifinal where he had a plan that didn't include just pounding Henry mercilessly.

Loved the film room with the coaches. Narduzzi busting up about how intense Saban is was pretty good too. It felt a lot like when a staff goes out to scout an opponent and one of the young guys is running the camera while all the old hands shoot some bull. Good stuff.
I think it's a lot easier controlling college kids than it is controlling grown men who make far more and therefore are treated much differently than you. I thought it was funny that all those kids had to heed every word that Saban told them until the draft. Then they would be worth millions and you'd get stuff like they reported about in Miami. Guys running by and calling Saban "Nicky".

Alabama's right tackle was worked over the entire game; Clemson had some good players on defense. A different game without the blown coverages, the terrible run fit on the long tempo run that went fora TD or the special teams gaffs, but that's also how Alabama and Saban beat you: they hold serve and generally don't make mistakes. I thought Clemson was overall very well coached but not Dabo's best game, but maybe that's unfair considering how well played the game was. Clemson's QB is no joke -- had 500 yards of offense himself and 4 TD passes and Clemson was missing two of their top WRs and their RB was hurt the whole game.

......the long tempo run that went fora TD..... that was one thing that led me to muting the game for the whole second quarter. CAN WE PLEASE STOP CALLING "FAST NO HUDDLE" TEMPO. Tempo is not a speed its a scale. you can be slow tempo or fast tempo.....

I'm no QB coach, but I thought that Coker looked really poor the other night. I know that his end numbers were strong, but I felt that they were more a result of the blown coverage passes or that last big pass to Howard, where the DB completely took the wrong angle. In most cases, he looked like a deer caught in the headlights, taking way too many sacks or over-/under-throwing his receivers. Even on the blown coverages, he wasn't hitting his receivers in stride. If I recall correctly, both were underthrown and late, b/c he didn't realize that these receivers were coming open. It wasn't until they were literally standing there, wide open, that he realized that he needed to throw the ball. Did anyone feel this way watching the game?

What did everyone expect though? The expectations for him seem pretty low. When you have about 14 future NFL players around you, all you have to do as a QB is not turn the ball over.
