If I remember correctly, Schembechler said Woody had hit him when they were working together.
I haven’t watched any new series yet but I have worked for two guys that could lay it on you. One was a cusser and mean as a snake the other didn’t use foul language but was much meaner than the first.
Out of all of the rants the first one went on the most intimidated I ever was came on a Sunday morning after we game up a 28 point half time lead the day before.
He calmly came into our team meeting. We went through all of the normal whole team agenda stuff then broke off into offensive and defensive meetings.
Our head coach calls the offense so all of us defensive guys head to our conference room. We fire up the film to do the stats, grade the guys, and fix our mess. The head coach walks in. Calmly sits on the edge of the chair. Leans in towards the group and says “Well guys...fucKKIINNGG FIX IT. Or I will find someone who will.”
He slammed the door on the way out and I don’t think he talked to any of us again till Thursday.
Out of all of his rants this one was different. It was D3 ball and I was a lay coach so I had teaching job too. Getting fired wouldn’t have broke me, but the other coaches in that room paid the bills with football money so it would have been devestating to them.
At that point I knew full time coaches have a different level of pressure. The football isn’t just football and the success of the team directly impacts all areas of their lives. I am not justifying negative communication with staff members but that kind of pressure can have a huge impact on some guys.
By the way both guys I worked for I still love and would work for them again. We had good relationships and knew at the end of the day there was mutual respect. Not sure if that is the case in the show or not.

We do a quick Indy period lead by the seniors in the position group and then a team/kick script. It only takes about 45 minutes then the hc talks to them a little bit in the stands.
The crazy thing is that he asks assistants (except for coordinators)to take the day off and spend it with their families. He had been somewhere that had done it and like it so he decided to do it as well. I had never heard of such a thing amd didn’t feel right just missing so I stayed around and helped where I could and spent time with my family after practice.

I want to see a segment where they ask Saban the same same questions they ask Leach. I always love hearing Leach’s answers then imagining how Saban would have handled the same inquiry. I think both Leach and Saban are playing games with the media. It's just their styles, like their offenses, are vastly different. I equally appreciate both, and anyone really who engages the media in a mocking manner. That's why I love Bill B so much. They are both very deliberate in their approach to the media. The serious impression that Saban permeates surely is calculated. I still would love to see how he responds to the questions of big foot and cans corn and the like.

Anything that came out of Knoxville,TN the past 5 years. "Champions of Life" "Five Star Hearts" "Leadership Reps" ugh...I never even heard the term "leadership reps" and it killed a little bit of my soul when I read it PJ Fleck I have an irrational hatred for...he seems like the type of dude that would tell everybody's girlfriends/wives what they did at a bachelor party because he is their friend too and feels like it was the right thing to do I frequent the message boards of a few different schools in the SEC (Texas A&M and LSU mostly) just to kill time and get a college fb fix, and you have no idea how hard up some of their fans were to try and get fleck hired "we this kind of passion man!..look at him! he's running around saying big quotes and there's inspiring music and players are all crying and stuff" the kind of people who like fleck are the ones that love it when the staff development speaker does that stupid "oooooh I think we can do better that THAT!...I SAID GOOD MORNING TEACHERS!!"...and the fleck lovers are the ones who whoop and holler and crap pretending to not be pissed that school is about to start and we are in the stupid meetings fleck lovers are people who are on their 3rd or fourth pyramid scheme even though they never made any money still thinking that this is their big chance to be their own boss and drive a dodge stratus if only they bring enough positive attitude and doggone enthusiasm! there is no escape I had a kid that played for Fleck at Western and he said he was a genuine guy so I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I became suspicious of him when he took the Minnesota job after they fired Tracy Claeys since they are both part of the Jerry Kill coaching tree. I don’t know all of the details so I could be completely wrong but that seemed like a sleazy move.

His comments about a wedding were hilarious, but I have to say that I’m over all of the media antics of Mike Leach. Mike Leach is the 🐐 Edit: I want to sit and drink beer with him and Spurrier I want to see a segment where they ask Saban the same same questions they ask Leach. I always love hearing Leach’s answers then imagining how Saban would have handled the same inquiry.

The best nose I ever coached was converted from DB. Just couldn’t process his reads from that position. Put him over the center and as 5’7”ish 160 lbs athlete he wreaked havoc. We had a few D1 kids on that team but he was the one opposing coaches always mentioned after games about how they gave them head aches to game plan for. He was a legit 4.5 and wrestled so he had a great combination of quickness and leverage.
He was so fast off the ball at times that one of our assistants who was opppsed to the move said that he looked like a tecmo bowl glitch.
Tried that same move with similar kids before but similar isn’t the same so didn’t workout.

One of the best head coaches I know told his kids “if you don’t like wrestling or track you better make the basketball or baseball team because you are going to be doing something in the offseason.”

I don’t know if this a good or bad thing: We lead off our schedule with a team that is a perennial state power. Last year was my first year and it felt like our kids didn’t think they could beat that team. We killed them in 7 on 7 the other day though and I think our kids now feel like they can compete with them. It will be interesting to see if the gained confidence will help us when real football rolls around in the fall. Im almost sure they are state power because of how they play up front. They are assuredly a state power for a multitude of reasons. They are well coached so they play sound and fast. They are darn good. I by no means think beating them in 7 on 7 think that we have accomplished anything significant yet. I do think there is the potential that our kids have shifted their mindset to feel they can compete with this team. I am just hoping it isn’t a false sense of accomplishment that farmers over confidence.

I don't like 7-7 because our linebackers bail at the snap but it does help our corners learn to defend. We're primarily a run team so they don't do much for our offense. We competed against a regular season team in a tournament and did not do well. Going into the regular season game the opponent was confident that they were going to stomp us but we ended up putting up nearly 600 rushing yards and completely blew them out of the game. A dad on the chain gang said he overheard players & coaches saying, "This isn't the same team we played in 7-7." So Defcord , the confidence builder is good but you have to manage it and know that things will likely be entirely different. That's a great point. I might use your story as a cautionary tale. Thanks for sharing!

I coach the offensive line so hopefully that doesn’t happen too often. Do you think 7 on 7 gives qbs a false sense of security in their approach to the game? Our kid will be a three year starter so he will be fine after taking a shot, but the next couple kids in line won’t have had the opportunity to play through pressure so 7 on 7 could get them in a comfort zone that isn’t replicated in the real game.

just buy a laminator if it is 8.5x11 sheets you can't beat the amazon basics one i just got one the other day (my big one got stolen) $21 for the amazon basics laminator $11 for a pack of 100 laminating sheets I laminate everything Who the hell steals a laminator? Probably an elementary teacher. I bought my wife, who teaches kindergarten, a laminator last year because she was always griping about not having full access to the one at school. She said it was the best gift I had bought her in fifteen years of marriage. Elementary teachers are nuts.

The only thing I know for sure is you're a DB who can't form an argument without calling someone a name. money You literally are forming an argument by calling someone a name. I now have to believe you only keep posting because you are still in school and your kids have taken their exams (eggs-ams) and you are trying to amuse yourself because you have nothing better to do before summer break officially rolls around.

I didn't get watching streams either til I was looking for a video on how to beat something and it directed me to Twitch. I've been pretty hooked on it since then. By hooked I mean watch in my free time, not like missing work for it or anything like that. A lot of these cats put in a ton of work and practice to run games. It's fun for me to talk about retro games from childhood with someone who is playing it. I can learn how to get better at it and make some new acquaintances. I get how it's not everyone's cup of tea, but a lot of those streamers put in as much work as we do coaching. Plus the precision of seeing someone beat the original Super Mario in under 5 minutes is pretty cool and nuts how tight the margins for error are. Fortnite I don't totally get. Doesn't seem that great. When I showed my son how to get infinite lives in the original Super Mario Bros he thought I was the Bear Bryant of video games. That’s about all I have in my aresenal when it comes to the gaming world. The only other thing I can offer assistance with is changing batteries in his controllers.

My observation came during some downtime at school last Friday. A few of my linemen (given the option of most linemen this definitely makes it odder) were hanging out in my room in between senior day stuff and talking about what they were doing that night. One of them said he was supposed to hang out with his girlfriend. The other ones said they were playing the game and he should come over. The kid went into serious contemplation on what to do. This same young man put off getting his drivers license for a month to go to prom with the girl. I about said something then I thought...nah let me just put it on Huey instead. Well maybe she isn’t putting out then. I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt I considered that but then I remembered ignorance is bliss and moved on with my day.

They say pu**y is undefeated, but I am starting to think Fortnite is a dark horse candidate to hand it its first defeat. I mean the Washington Generals got the Globetrotters a few times. If a kid chooses fortnite over pu$$y than they would no longer be on any team I coached 😁 My observation came during some downtime at school last Friday. "Snowflake", "Lazy and ignorant", "Waaahh"? Is this what you consider a reasonable discussion? Do you have a critique on EGGS or a defence for Maltodextrin/Cattle Feed Over Real Food? Seems ignorant folks don't like being called out for being such. Nobody is forcing anyone to do anything here...being overly sensitive about someone calling a spade a spade can result in being encouraged to thicken ones skin...was this about pats on the back and participation trophies? Missed the memo. Crying about how the message is delivered but doing nothing about bettering ones methods IN SPITE of the messenger only confirms the ignorance. It isn't static or set in stone folks...just as some would appreciate a different delivery, and I assume are attempting correction, we can learn and improve. As opposed to just putting new tread on an old tire and spinning the same wobbly logic... Seems like most people that want to so adamantly share a message will find the most optimal way to disperse the information. Instead of justifying an unpopular means of delivery, the effort could be allocated towards supporting and communicating the relevant data. Exaggeration and insults certainly leave a mark on the reader but at what cost to goal of educating the audience. If the goal of your posts are truly to positively affect what coaches are using to enhance player nutrition, then your methods and means of communication miss the mark.

I remember being a kid and people mobbing to arcades for Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter 2 tournaments; moreover I remember lots of people having all night Madden tournaments when I was in college. I imagine kids of a previous decade were just as hyped for Space Invaders or Donkey Kong. The only differences are now you can play from home yet have some social interaction (headsets playing online) and you don't have to mow throw quarters. Its all pretty much the same. I definitely think there are trends this one just seems much stronger. I am out of touch with the video game world. My son plays and I think it’s silly but we talk about it’s okay to have different tastes. I draw my line with him when he wants to spend real money on fake money to buy stuff within a game.

Considering throughout the thread you call people basically stupid, ignorant, poor educators, retreads, and probably several other things I don't have the time retrace, so before you question someone's reading comprehension of one post understand I made my observation based on all your posts in the thread. I get it, you don't like it. Cool. If you posted your agreement in a form like, "I prefer eggs over this because of xyz" and "I know it is approved for NCAA, but I don't like it because of "reasons""people would have likely more responsive to your argument. But since you started and continued in a condescending and attacking manner people were probably less likely to take your stance seriously. Glad after a month you continue to be a JO. Lol...if not for this White Knight...Attacking manner...buck up snowflake. You want a cookie for blindly dumping crap into kids because of ease and convenience and I'll be the JO who rips folk for it because it's lazy and ignorant. You can cry about 'being called lazy and ignorant', and think nothing of actually BEING those things. I'd chose being the JO 11/10 if that is the alternative. 'he called us dinosaurs, waaahhh' You can’t do anything 11 times out of 10.

Run the Power is by far the best I have listen to Also the Jocko Williams Podcast is pretty good as well, not football but leadership I like the Jocko podcasts too..gosh they are sooo long I haven't ever listened to a full Jocko podcast but I have seen a few youtube clips. That dude makes me want to punch hard stuff. I listen to Joe Rogan's podcast selectively. I am not really that interested in the entertainment installments, but he has some performance and health specialists that are interesting. Recently Dr. Matthew Walker was on and made some pretty bold statements about the importance of sleep and the effects it has on mental and physical performance. Rogan's podcast is also very long, I would guess the most entertaining parts could be found clipped out on youtube. I have listened to Joe Daniels podcast and enjoy it, but there are certain times in my life when I have simply had enough football and want to take my mind down a different path for a bit.

Wow. I must be missing something. If I had to chose the best training aid (to translate to success) we have, other than the football itself, it would be the chute. If I could put a chute out on game day for run plays I would do it. Playing low starts from the ground-up. Flexibility begins with the ankles, then goes through the hamstrings to the low back. Chutes do not fix those issues, a strength and conditioning program does. Instead, chutes promote bending at the waste for those that are not flexible to avoid hitting their head. We have all seen this example going through the chute. Take a kid that hasn't been in a chute for one day that has good ankle flexibility, compare him to one that has spent his life in a chute that has bad ankle flexibility, and the athlete with the flexible ankles will perform the task more efficiently if all other variables are equal. I used to do chutes, but it never fixed the issue. The stiff dick is still the stiff dick, but now he knows how to bend at the waist to not hit his head I fully agree with what you are saying as far as building technique and developing athletes to play at proper pad levels. I think with the old extremely low chutes there is a lot of truth in what you are saying. However, I do think some of the newer chutes are higher and allow players to play with proper technique and not just bend.

Some of the "courses" I need to complete after 20 years of coaching to make sure I know the fundamentals of coaching... That is an absurd amount of courses. Are you at a large or small school district? I am in my fourth district and it's tiny. Combined elementary-middle school, single high school and administrative building all on the same campus. I may never leave this place. When I was at all of the large districts the bureaucracy and BS were rampant. Here things are done in a much more common sensical way. I am not sure if it's because the district is small or if I am just lucky.

Yeah, our kid didn't have this. He had a minor sunburn. I am not completely insensitive to the severity of sunburns and I hope it didn't come off that way. I think we have a sunburn denier!!! Don't deny the science!!! But on the topic of emails, I had a mom email me so that her son could leave practice early to let the dog out to pee. Same kid missed a game for his brothers wedding mid-season. My damn brother better be smart enough to not have his wedding during football season. Sunburns and global warming = NONSENSE!!!! Another day, this one is not football related, we were talking about teacher pay in Florida and he said "It has to be the 51st or 52nd worst state in terms of pay." I asked "how many states do you think there are?" And he immediately knew something was up, but he really didn't know the answer so he just goes "are you guys effing with me?...Puerto Rico is a state right...ummmm...dammit how many states are there?" He thought there were 51 or 52 states, literally. I'm going to assume he was joking to add emphasis to his point. I say stuff like this all the time. For example, we played against a really bad corner one game and one of our main goals was to pick on him consistently. On the scouting report the kids get on Hudl over the weekend, I wrote. "#15 is the 23rd best football player on the field at all times." Only a few of my players understood the joke when we came back during our Monday morning meting. He definitely did not know. We had a conversation about it. I only tipped the iceberg with the stories I included. There's another coach on this board kutch037 that was part of that staff and could verify and expand on the unbelievable assertions of the header.

It's frustrating to hear guys write kids off so early in their high school years. A LOT can happen in 4 years before they become seniors. The best programs I have been part of have developed all of the younger kids and always had players that surprised them down the road in terms of production. Really, about the only time I’ll write a freshman off is if they have a terrible work ethic. Rarely happens that a lazy kid as a freshman will become a hard enough worker as a Sr to become a good, trustable player. Lot of hard working freshmen become lazy as they age, but in 20 years I don’t know the opposite has happened more 4-5 times. Yeah, I think it's hard to take someone seriously when they don't take themselves seriously. In that regards some kids write themselves off and that's a little different for sure.

I have an heightened risk of cancer due to a very bad burn as a child -- which was due to a Summer Camp that took us to a water park without our parents permission and because of that, the counselors wouldn't let me out of sight (aka INSIDE) and b/c they didn't have a note, wouldn't let me put on sunscreen. My parents could have won me a ton of money in a suit. There is no way I could have made it to practice, let alone be out in the sun. I was only allowed to go outside to go to the doctor. Let's just say, my upper back and shoulders were covered in a dark red sunburn (nearly black). I had blisters the size of half dollars. I've peeled and blistered before -- but not like that. I could only lay on my stomach on the couch. I constantly was sweating with a bad fever. I had migraines. I was throwing up (I had "sun poisoning"). I could barely put a t-shirt on two weeks later but had to when I made my doctors visit -- which was agonizing. I really wouldn't wish that pain on anyone. Aloa and strong pain killers didn't do anything, I just had to wait it out. Sun burn is real for us pale folks. And I've struggled since to protect myself. I once put sun lotion on every hour at a water park -- my now wife at the time (who gets a very dark tan) thought i was crazy -- and I still blistered a bit. This made my stomach hurt just reading it Yeah, our kid didn't have this. He had a minor sunburn. I am not completely insensitive to the severity of sunburns and I hope it didn't come off that way.
