How long till Gruden get another gig on sidelines?
I love him on ESPN, but I thought he would have been all over Notre Dame this last year or maybe even USC or Tennesee.
I guess hes waiting for the right NFL job to open? A team thats already a contender and just needs a little push.

When I realized at 5"10 and a 5.2 40, I wasnt gonna be in NFL TE.
My highschool coach, who I consider my father, IS the biggest influance in my life. Not just for football, but for life lessons. I pray Im half the man he is someday. I want to give something back to some kid like he did for me...

Not saying the OL couldnt do DBs, because he sounds like a hell of a coach, but why take an A Plus coach and move him to get maybe a B plus DB coach?
Can you move the other OL guy to DBs? I played TE and now coach QBs. Its hard but anyone who wants to put in the work can do anything.

The great staffs I've been on, just enjoyed being with each other. We all meet in the HC office in season and out before school to just BS with each other. We all would go get a beer after work.
Stuff like that cant be forced.

"fire for airing program stuff"?
Come on man..its not like its the local press. Its an internet message board designed to give FEEDBACK and advice on things, thats why its annoymus.
I know 3 or 4 posters here, I consider them friends. Sometimes I post real questions. Sometimes I post hypothetical questions that are on my mind.
Am I happy about how my athletic department is ran? Not all the time. Do I have issues with it? Sometimes. Do I come here to vent? Yes.
I understand your point about going to the school board. That one I agree with you on. But Venting on the web...come on man, thats why the internet was invented...well that ,music downloads and porn.

The guy I use, he charges around $5-6 for a t-shirt (depending on what you want), we flip it for $10. 100 t shirts = $500 profit

Sorry, cant modify polls, or I would have. The four yard gain is running the ball, in case it wasnt clear.

This is kinda one of those, how good an athlete do you think you are? I mean, I flat school my middle schoolers running the option, so put a great FB like Tony Richardson in front of me and I think I could get 4 yards on a dive (if its a toss I may lose 4).
If I was gonna complete a stop, the DB would have to bail hard....
Catching a slant? Catching it..Yup...Holding on when a Mike LB lays me out...maybe...

Had a kid this season, who will be a very solid LBer one day but is offensively challenged. He thinks he's a RB, when in reality, he'd be a great center if he commited to it. He missed a couple practices early last season because of a back injury. (Not sure how legit that was) but when he came back he said "So...uh...my doctor doesn't think I should play O-Line anymore. That's where I hurt it and it really hurts getting in and out of the stance. He says I'll be fine to play Mike Linebacker though." I still don't know whether to laugh or be ticked. I think I know this kid....

Who do the parents go to with issues? Who does administration go to? Who determines PT? Who decides to sub/go for it on 4 and 2?
I'm very curious. "In the absence of leadership, chaos insues"

At my last school, when we went to clinics we:
A. Attended the first nights sessions, then partied like rock stars. B. Met in the lobby at 7:30 for a staff breakfast went to morning sessions then lunch, followed by our own planning meetings that lasted for about 4 hours. C. Late afternoon we went to whatever session we wanted. Dinner..parited like rock stars D. Had breakfast as a staff caught the 8am session and went home.

Ok let me try this....
The play itself from a X's and O's idea was good, but the play itself..was it a success? Yes you got the look, but you didnt get a net positive result.

I'm not saying I dont agree with you, its more of a general statement of what counts as a successful play.

Ok handicappers, whatca got.
The Saints will win the game by 6 points.
Drew Brees will NOT be named MVP.
Peyton Manning will make a turnover that will lead to a huge shift in momentum.
Dwight Freeney will play but will be ineffective.
Some dot com will have the funniest ad.
CatCoach will consume way to much food.
What are your bold predictions?

As a playcaller your play was a successful call if you got whaat you wanted to achieve. If you wanted to get the X receiver open and he was but dropped the pass or the QB missed the receiver then that was a successful play from your standpoint. Now, you may have to reevaluate whether your QB can make that throw or whether to throw to that receiver again but you wanted to get him open and he was. You can run that play again. So even though you gained no yards, the play "worked" in your mind? I really dont feel one way or another, just trying to stir some debate on this cold snowy Friday.

Saw this on a basketball board I post on.
Whats the definition of a successful play? The debate was from a coach running his set and getting an open look counting it as success vs. getting a look and MAKING the basket.
What about in fotoball? Is it one that gains yards? Or one that gets you the look you want regardless of success.
For example:
Is a post route that the receiver is wide open and drops a successful play?
Is a run for 11 yards then a fumble a successful play?
If the Qb scrambles for 4 yards (but doesn't run X Fly Waggle Rhino Texas 960)is that successful?
Just wanted to hear some thoughts.

Assuming our staff doesnt get to go to a clinic this year, what, if any are good online clinics? I know Glazier has one, is there anything else? I would probably be paying out of pocket for these, so cost effectiveness is a plus.
Thanks,

Loyalty is agreeing with the vision. You may not agree with it or like it, but you defend it.
Your apart of something being in a program. Have I always agreed with the HC's I've worked for? Nope. In public do I defend it? Yes. Do I do the best of my ability in said program? Yes.
That to me is loyalty.

To me personally? Its huge. Im competitive. However, do I place value on my self as an educator and a leader of young men based on my record? No.
Hammerhead said (paraphrasing here): Teaching young men certain things is whats important. Agree. The football field, basketball court, wrestling mat, are just other venues to teach. Does winning help? Yes, being successful is important, but its not the only thing.
My high school coach has been there going on 25 years. His record is roughly 175-75. Several 8-2, 7-3 seasons with a few 6-4s mixed in. 4 Conference titles, 4 district titles, 2 PLAYOFF WINS, 0 state championships. Winning was important, but at the same time, hes more proud of what we have become as people then anything we'd done on the field. He valued hard work as much as ability. I call him Dad and mean it. I like most who played for him knew he cared more about us then just as football players.
Im in my mid to late 20s, and while winning is still important to me, the character of the young men and helping guide them to become better in the classroom and in how they live their life has become more important.
I had this conversation at lunch...I'm still to competitive to think I could handle 3-7, 2-8,4-6 for 3 years, hard work or not. IT comes down to what YOU value. Whats most important to you at this point in your career?
In central Mo where I coach there are lifers who are prolly around .400 winning %. Not because their bad coaches, but because the community doesnt care if they win or not. There are some schools Rock Bridge in Columbia Mo, and smaller schools too, where you get 3 years and if you arent raising a district title over your head then its time to update the resume.

I think as a player and as I coach, I prefered the "marathon". Doing one 1:45 minute practice, then coming back after a 30-45 minute break for round 2 was MUCH better then practicing 8-10, then coming back from 6-8.
You just dread that second practice as a player. I know you feel as a coach you get more out of them after they've been off for 8 hours, but I think you get just as much doing the marathon so to speak.
