Ok handicappers, whatca got.
The Saints will win the game by 6 points.
Drew Brees will NOT be named MVP.
Peyton Manning will make a turnover that will lead to a huge shift in momentum.
Dwight Freeney will play but will be ineffective.
Some dot com will have the funniest ad.
CatCoach will consume way to much food.
What are your bold predictions?

Bold?? hmmm...
Bold would be picking the Saints. It would be great to see them win, that area deserves it. But realistically, this is the Colts year (again).
Bold would be saying Peyton Manning will be knocked out of the game by the 2nd Q and then the Saints roll the Colts. That could happen.
I just don't see Cinderella getting her wish. The Saints barely beat the Fumblingbumbling Vikings last week. The Colts are a much better team.
And no matter what, Peyton Manning will go down as the best QB ever!!!

The Saints barely beat the Fumblingbumbling Vikings last week. Yeah, because the Vikings weren't a good team and the NY Jets were a dominant force in the AFC all season.......... Saints 34 - Colts 24
I really hope New Orleans gets back to their quick game and [fast] screens against the Colts, which was surprisingly absent against the Vikings. Though they scored (with Bush) on the Snag, they usually work the beejesus out of Stick and Spacing early in games. When they do - Brees really carves up underneath defenders (effortlessly).
I have to say, I have about lost all faith in the NFL as a sport entity with rule enforcements this season. I am having difficulty understanding / recognizing the subjectiveness of DPI / RTP penalties or even their relevance/legitimacy. Sure, you can make these calls, but I'm disheartened at how realisitic the threshold for calling them is (touching a QB's helmet / making contact with QB while he is throwing / a DB going for the ball near a receiver / etc) BOLD prediction? You couldn't ask for a more evenly matched game QB ComparisonPre Super Bowl Thoughts

Statistically speaking, the Saints are a much more solid team on paper. 1st in the league in offense, scoring, turnover margin, margin of victory, defensive TDs, 4th quarter scoring, completion percentage, 3rd in the league in yards per pass attempt, 4th in passing, 6th in rushing, 2nd in sacks given up, 2nd in kickoff return average, 2nd in field goal percentage, ipsofacto Top 7 in the categories that really matter.
The Peyton Manning argument will only hold so much water and considering the rest of his team has quite a few holes in it where water has a tendency to leak.
Saints 41- Colts 34

Take stats for what they're worth because the two teams did not play identical schedules.

being a Colts fan, i have to predict Indy will win. i think there will be 4 lead changes and the final score will be in the 30s. i predict no turnovers and no sacks by either team. Pierre Garcon will be MVP
the last time Peyton Manning faced a Greg Williams D he threw for 360yards, 3 TDs, no INTs. ill guess his numbers will be close to the same sunday

The Colts play their 8 in the box 'Ok if you think you can beat Peyton in a shoot out' defense and Brees will ablige them.

....Huge disppointment sends Nahlins into looting and burning.... jesus, you're ridiculous as well as offensive yet both opponents combined winning percentage comes out to 45-48% Both played AFC East opponents And yet they only had six common opponents, or less than 40% of their schedules. the point was that they both are about as similar (of a team/result) as you can get. To play the exact same schedules would mean they'd be coming from the same division and same conference (meaning, you're missing the point)

Predict a lot of yards on both sides of the ball...but also a lot of fieldgoals as QBs and OCs will get conservative in the red zone.
Colts 23 Saints 20

To play the exact same schedules would mean they'd be coming from the same division and same conference (meaning, you're missing the point) No, the point was an exact comparison pointing to the Super Bowl winner cannot be made based on teams' season statistics because there is a huge variable: they did not play the same schedule, which would make statistical comparisons meaningful. Just like a Randy Johnson fastball...right on by you.

So stats are completely meaningless?
If you have the "#1 defense in the league" it would be inconsequential because teams didn't go against the same offenses?
I'm not arguing, just trying to understand your position. I don't believe anyone has asserted that because "X has ----- stat superiority, they will beat Y", so the case for statistical comparison is one raised for framing a spectator's reference.
We're talking about blowouts and disparity, but when actually comparing the teams...they're actually quite equal.

Reread my original post, perfesser - I said take the stats "for what they're worth" (or with a grain of salt). You're the one who picked the fight.
BTW, to your example - Jets (AFC East, whom both Colts and Saints played) had the number one NFL defense in points and yards allowed - and they're not playing Sunday.
Doesn't matter Saints' statistical rankings. They're in The Game - that means they've got a chance.
Man, you're cantankerous.

how about the extra time to prepare? like they say vs option teams in bowl games.i think the extra week will favor NO. extra week getting ready for manning might be very important IMHO.i think coaching favors NO but we're not that important i've been told. by the way,i love what Peyton does but he seems kind of geeky to me compared to Brees.however, my son told me he was all state great all around athlete in HS.reminds me more of a pro golfer like davis love 3. go figure.what do i know?

MY FB BRAIN SAYS: INDY 31 NEW ORLEANS 28
MANNING MVP
MY FB HEART SAYS: NEW ORLEANS 28 INDY 21
BUSH MVP
I'm rooting for N.O. (I've been there post Katrina) but . . . . . .I'm betting on INDY
Go Saints!

I know exactly who is going to win the game and by how many points!............ I will tell you what I picked when the game is over ;D On a serious note: I am 100% sure that the Colts will win if they score more points than the Saints, and they will lose if the Saints score more than them! I know, it just seems like the right pick! Anyone else agree?

------------------------------ Manning is gonna tear the Saints apart. where does "who dat?" really come from anyhow? SHORT FOR . . . " Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints?" I think it's sort of a cajun SE Louisiana accent for Who's That? As in "Who's that who says they're going to beat the Saints?" It's become their (fans) battle cry. It's all theirs

You want a bold prediction? Here's one- I predict that the Super Bowl will be won by
The Green Bay Packers.
Forget logic and stats be damned. Who cares that they're not actually playing in the game? I'm taking the Packers and that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
