Wow! What a loss to the kids at his school. I have never met him in person, but exchanging ideas here and via email (and one cell phone call in the middle of the summer) has given me a great respect for OJW. He is a class act and a brilliant coach.

OJW, they are saying it like your dead, retired? We will see... the smell of fresh cut grass in August does something to an ex coach. Best of luck CRL

I can believe y'all found me, I thought I could sneak out the back and nobody would know. Now, not only that, you see what I look like and that is really bad. Y'all probably thought that I was a handsome young Tom Selleck look-a-like, now everybody knows that I'm just some old guy.
Tampa, look forward to being able to drop by down there and actually learn something about defense. Look forward to it. You gonna' go down to USF Spring this year?
I've had a great time, just need a little time off I think. Hey, maybe I can do one of those coach Meyer retirements, what ya' think? I already feel better.

Congratulations. Retired at 53, though? What are you going to do, play scratch-offs and hit the Early Bird before the reruns of Matlock come on?

"Sure ya do, say goodbye to me, go grab that spirited actress and make her your own. Take that spirit from her and don't look back. Live every second, live right on through to the end. Live Wyatt, live for me. Wyatt, if you were ever my friend... if ya ever had even the slightest of feelin' for me, leave now, leave now... please. "

Coach, seriously, if you do come to NC this fall please give me a heads up and we would love to have you come to a game. I am in the MOST PREMIUM area in NC for tourists coming to see the changing of the leaves. Your wife will love it and may not let you leave. In that case we might have to find you a job here.

Nothing like losing to foster the seeds of retirement. I have gone 5-39 in the last two years since dropping down to the Junior High Level. I thought I could coach my way to success and that in the end it would be a benefit to coach in the same school I work at. All I know, is nothing makes you want to turn it in like a losing season.

JG, I was wondering if anybody would see that. Another odd story-like me life. It is an autograph from Tommy Tuberville. Here's the odd part. I got to see him at USF's spring football clinic in Tampa. After it was over, I went to talk to him and he thought I was an autograph hound. Well, I didn't have anything but my royal blue HCA hat, and he wrote War Eagle Tommy Tuberville in it. Cool, except for the fact that he wasn't the coach at Auburn anymore, he has been fired months before. So, I guess in a wierd way, I was his last Auburn autograph, I'm an Auburn alumnus.
Coach Tuberville autographed my best game hat and on our photo day I grabbed the wrong hat when I went to school. I didn't realize it until I saw it in the paper a week later, just crazy.
Speaking of Coach Tuberville. Great clinic last Spring at USF, Coach Tuberville went over the 4-3 defense nearly exactly the same way that he showed it to me in the late 80's. It was really cool to get a kinda' book-end feeling about the 4-3 defense. It was almost exactly the same presentation, I was smiling the entire time, as it felt like a time warp. His presentation of the 4-3 changed everything for me in the late 80's. It was crazy radical stuff back then.
Now, Coach Tuberville is at Texas Tech and Jim Leavitt is fired, Coach Bowden and Coach Mickey Andrews are retired. These men had a huge influence on my coaching.

OJW,
Hope you enjoy your retirment. Maybe we could meet up one day in Auburn at a game if you ever get up this way. I appreciate the 4-3 you turned me on to as well. Thanks, and War Eagle.
