Little more for you old school guys! Just kidding! Put it on the projector screen in the gymnasium if possible and let the fans watch. I guarantee you the fans could call plays then

They should have had the 2 head coaches arm wrestle. Winner takes all Game of Madden.

Awesome to see this on here. The author of that I'm friends with the daughter he is writing about (had multiple classes in high school and went to youth group together). But yes it's a good read, if everyone raised their kids the way the author has the world would be a much better place.

The 50 number would upset me but I don't think it's much of a deal. If you cause a fuss about it even though it didn't change the outcome of the game at all (besides the final score but you know what I mean, the winner) imagine how that makes you look

I fight with people on the daily about football. I even changed the topic of my midterm paper to focus on it because it gets under one kids skin so bad.

Little bit of a pet peeve of mine and I'm not even a coach yet is seeing a kid half-butt a route because he knows he isn't getting the ball. Irritates the heck out of me to see it, how can the defense take you as a serious threat if you aren't going 100%

Tell him if he doesn't block he doesn't get the ball. If he doesn't play defense he doesn't get the ball. Kid just needs his attitude adjusted one good time.

You have to stick with the coach. Do your job, let him do his. Can't have a divided staff.

My alma mater's HC has his teams sideline on the opposite side of the home bleachers. I don't think this is because he can't handle the yelling but so the kids don't hear "bah gawd why you runnin the same play coach! It ain't working bag gawd!" They put the away team on the home side? This is brilliant for a lot of reasons. Yes the away team is on the home side

This is an instance of not having a school email being a great thing. Though calling games I hear things on occasion. I had a grandma calling me stupid not long ago for calling the same play over and over again. My gut reaction was to say, "look if we can't block long enough to throw a 5 yard hitch, it doesn't matter what I call. It's not going to work" I'm lucky with the JV line has enough kids with the correct numbers and go in the correct direction.
Instead I chuckled, said something to another coach, and continued taking our beatdown. Her daughter in law apologized for her later, which was nice I guess. Didn't hear much from her the next few weeks when we've won 2 of 3. We lost week 1 and I was getting beat up in the stands. We threw 3 interceptions and couldn't move it on the ground either. It didn't matter what I called. We haven't lost since and now the JV parents love me. We ran inside zone last week and rushed for almost 300 yards. They suddenly love that I keep calling a play if is working. My alma mater's HC has his teams sideline on the opposite side of the home bleachers. I don't think this is because he can't handle the yelling but so the kids don't hear "bah gawd why you runnin the same play coach! It ain't working bag gawd!"

How about your starting WS being named homecoming king (announced before the game) and is expected to ride around the track at halftime in the back of convertible to escort the homecoming queen (announced at half time). In a tight game. In region play. That has play off implications. No wonder we were trying to turn around a program that had 6 NON losing seasons in 54 years. FMR As a coach can't you just tell the administration that if your player wins that tradition can wait until after the game? Correction: I mean request

Guys dress like girls for a homecoming court. Get escorted on a golf cart, have their own bio read out loud for their girl character (teenage boys writing these things can be interesting). It's held the day of the powder puff football before the championship is played. You might need some time before you're ready to coach. Just 19! I'll be ready don't you worry! Lol

Exactly what you think you just read Gotta give an explanation of the makeup wearing thing because I have NEVER heard of that before. And I've heard about many homecoming activities. When I played we weren't originally going to be allowed to participate with the backwards homecoming festivities (powder puff football, drag queen court basically). But we begged coach because half of the court were football players, and I won so I'm glad he let us. The real honest punishment was having to practice with all that makeup on. It was terrible. Umm .... what did I just read? Exactly what you think you just read

"Don't ever argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience." Mark Twain? I heard it first from my Pappaw, but yes I think Twain said it.

Honestly I don't think you can keep the kids. I would want to. Really would. No excuse for what they did, but when boys have the adrenaline pumping and a person of authority instructs them to do something like that I wouldn't give them total blame. But with this being national news these kids won't play again.
If the coach wants to he could keep them on the team, I would run them for the time they are suspended all practice (if they aren't suspended for the season) and I would make them do laundry, help out with everything from mopping the floors to doing all the assistant coaches dirty jobs. Then they'd have to earn their spot back in practice

I could take you up on that if you're needing someone a few years from now when I get my degree! Your username makes me think you're BW but your posts make me assume DH. I haven't tested the job market yet here (Eastern Kentucky) in my area but when I played we had about 6 coaches when we took our team picture. One left to go back to his old school, but we got two more guys after that before the season and one made it about halfway through the season before he got asked not to come back. Of that staff only one original member remains, plus the one who left us and went back to his old school is now the defensive coordinator there. The HC is at the college level, DB/special teams is at his alma mater I think as the defensive coordinator (he's also on this board so I can't talk bad about him ) only the QB coach remains that finished that season. But 100+ HC jobs have opened up in the state the past two years I'm pretty sure so if you apply for enough I'm pretty sure you can get something, and if there's that many HC jobs I can't even imagine the number of assistants because most are volunteer work/teachers anyways.

Hey guys! I am new here. 19 years old, from Kentucky and as you can tell from my username I plan on being a future coach! I am a college student going into teaching, my first love which will help me achieve my dream of coaching football. I love football as much as I love to breathe. I do have playing experience, I was an A-back on a flexbone team in high school. What we ran was a pretty much dumbed down version of it however (I mean we ran little to no triple option). I am a fast learner and when I have free time I am usually reading articles on numerous websites about X's and O's. I joined this website honestly to learn more about the X's and O's and to get advice from you guys who all seem to be helpful and educated on this wonderful sport. I believe I have the qualities to become a good coach. To me being a coach gives me the opportunity to reach and mold a large number of kids because of my position similar to the way a counselor can. I love the game and I still talk to the players at my alma mater and I believe I have been told I am sort of a mentor to them, and I have even put some of them through workouts during the summer. I only have one problem though, I want to get back into the game somehow. I went to watch my alma mater practice the first week of the season and the smell of the grass just cancelled all patience I have. I don't care if I coach middle school, high school, or little junior league kids I want to be involved in the game somehow and right now the way my schedule at work and school is set up I surprisingly have every weekday evening off. I know it's too late to start this season but for next season is there any suggestion you all have for me trying to get involved? Honestly, I would prefer not to start at my alma mater because I want to see what it is like outside of the program there to gain some experience. Looking forward to talking with you guys and bugging you all with my questions! If your relationship with your head coach is good, you could always ask him for a connection at a school as a volunteer. Here's a nice piece for you to read while you look for a program to help out. lifeafterfootballblog.com/two-words-that-will-get-you-where-you-want-to-go-in-football-and-life/My coach is back in the college rankings. Thank you so much though! I'm excited to be on this site
