Our team is transitioning to a No Huddle Offense this season from day 1. I want to find out the best way to get the call from the sideline to the field. How much do you carry in your toolbox (Runs/Passes)? I'd like to hear from coaches that are using the No Huddle currently. As Always, Thanks for your Help.

we use signals from the sideline to the field and we also use wristbands to communicate the plays. we put about 40 plays on the wristband(some of our more frequently run plays are duplicated so the defense can't figure out what they are). We are probably 50/50 on wristband plays and straight signals from the sideline. We signal in the formation and the play and if we use a wristband play we have a signal that lets the qb know its a wristband and then we signal in the number on the wristband. We have a certain color that the qb will use to tell the lineman and wr's its a wristband play. For example a typical play for us would Rt Arrow 28 and from the wristband it would be green 22.

Coach- We have a system of signals, no wristband. For example, Our run plays are Animals; Zone=zebra Wrap=wolf Screens are cars; Jet Screen=Jeep Our Ace Screens are Audi and Benz. We also have a numbering system 1. Top of head 2. Ear 3. Neck 4. Place hand on shoulder(making a 4)....thru 9. Its pretty simple. To call our Zone play (126 A Zone) our signaling coach would Touch top of head(1) touch ear(2) make a gun/6 shooter(6) then make stripes on his stomach(Zebra)

We use wristbands and a number board. All of our players on the field have a wristband. We tell them which numbers on the board are live. The players get the number from the board and look at the band. This was very simple and successful for us.

Fellas, I have a question along these lines for some of you who have been doing this for awhile.....
I have been running No Huddle for 4 years......very successfully.....
but in evaluating what has been done and what might need to change, I have come to the realization that I NO DOUBT, have to do SOMETHING along the lines of changing signals..........
One team that we play, now has my former OL coach on their sideline who knows the whole deal.....very very frustrating turning into a huddle team when you arent one.....
I have several other teams that I know are starting to be able to tell some things and figure them out because of how much we scout each other and film exchange.......
How do I deal with this.....?
I dont want to change my playcalling system (we have very very few mistakes in communication and understanding)......
I go off of a numbering system with tags which probably number well over a hundred, I have never counted......
Do I just change the numbering system? I really only have 1 or 2 coaches max who can be live on gameday?
Anyone else run into these problems of running the No Huddle over time?

If you have 3 coaches signaling in the plays.. with only 1 of them being live.. how can they figure out who is live? I mean sure they can guess.. but if you switch it up every half or quarter.. then..

Wristbands and change the inserts at halftime and use different inserts every game.
No amount of scouting will ever figure it out.

We do exactly what Eickst suggested. We have three panel wristbands on skill kids and single panel for linemen(they don't need motion, routes, etc) with 144 plays on it. Many common plays repeated to avoid detection. We have a play board flip chart with the numbers on it so the kids can just look over and get the play number. We signal the formations. At halftime we switch to our second half wristbands with new cards in them and ready to go for second half. White for first half and black wristbands for second half. Only thing is next year I will probably have some play signals for common run plays to increase the tempo. With the flip-chart we only had maybe 3 plays all year where someone read the wrong play. It was our first year doing this and I was amazed we didn't have more problems. Worked pretty good. May never huddle again! Want to increase that tempo though!

Guys we went to no huddle this year and we use all wristband and the wristband does not change ever. It is a pod system so the WB is broken up into 9 pods and it all fits into a one windo WB. They just get taught the order that the play is called in first the formation pod, then the motion pod, then the play pod. The play pods are color coated to distinguish snap count. With the WB being broken into pods it makes it really easy to combine any formation with or with out motion with any type of play, instead of having to pre type out all of th eplays. Now on my call sheet I have the play typed out with the WB code next to it. Let me know if you want any info on it. Timothy_Cullen@hcpss.org

I dont know what it is........probably just my brain and nothing wrong with people that use em, but I just have an aversion to wristbands........I have never liked em.......just personal preference i guess....
My biggest problem in signalling that comes in is this..... we use a number system for run plays and pass protections and then we signal "tag" the pass concepts, routes or add ons........
So i guess my problem comes in that run signals look pretty short and sweet and pass signals can get very "Grudenish".......
I guess if I can figure out a way to go three signalers one live, that would be ok......
either way I am going to change up my number signals and have more multiple ways to signal our runs in......
anyone have any other ideas I would appreciate it.....
thanks guys....

You could always have like in baseball an indicator where everything after say a pat on the head is live and then a close out signal where anything after that is dummy.
