IMHO, that is RIDICULOUS. Where to start? I choose to run the incoming frosh lifting over the summer because I trust myself to intro them the best and get them just to learn the ropes. I would say at least 1/3 of them are not yet physically mature enough where they are ready for heavy lifting. And yet they are having 6th graders go 3X a week, bad. To be fair, I think a lot of people go overkill on the HS level, but to do so on the youth level is uncalled for. I've never been in an area with dirret MS feeders, but have been in places with a lot of big time youth programs (NYS, Pop) that have seasons going year round. Ive seen a fair number of kids ware down (both physically and mentally) because theyve been going full contact 8-10 mos. a year since they were 10 years old. I just don't get guys who act like they're freaking Lombardi to a bunch of 11 year olds; but lord knows theyre out there. Convincing parents that what they do will help lil johnny get into the best HS and a college scholarship. As obvious I am VERY much against this, and think that we should all do whatever we can to prevent things like this from becoming the norm. Ahh..but here is the catch coach. That JR High I described, feeds into West Monroe high school. They have won 8 state titles in the last 18 years. They have played for the state title in 6 of the last 8 years. The genie is pretty much out of the bottle. What state is this in?

This came accross my email today and I thought with all the connections in Coach Huey nation, perhaps some of you could help. If you can help, perhaps some of you work for vendors that could give a huge discount or donate some items. News Coverage www.wkyt.com/home/headlines/Morgan_Co_football_team_loses_everything_in_tornado_143921796.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter&mobile=yes&device=iphone"Coaches: Many of you have called or e-mailed expressing concern. The following is a short synopsis that very briefly explains our situation in Morgan County as it relates to football. I have held off discussing football very much, at first, because our community had much more pressing needs and issues. Basically, we lost everything! I am going to send out another e-mail which lists the things we lost/need. Many have asked how they might help. We had planned on doing a lift-a-thon locally, but I thought one thing that might be cool is we opened it up statewide. Possibly individual high schools could sponsor one of our guys and raise money towards his lift totals. Just a thought. If we decide to try that-I'll send out a message to everyone with a list of our players. Thanks to all for your prayers and concerns. West Liberty is a fine little town, full of wonderful people. We saw God's power, but also HIS GRACE in our time of trouble. We are very thankful that no lives were lost in town and thousands have poured in to assist us. God's love has been written in/on it all. Coach Brian Turner brian.turner@MORGAN.KYSCHOOLS.USMorgan County Cougar Football Morgan County Football From 2006-2008, Morgan County Football went through three coaches in three years, winning only three games. The low point of the program came with the final game of the 2008 season -the cougars dressed only fifteen players-(six of which were seniors), the running clock rule was agreed upon before kickoff, and Morgan lost its 19th game in a row. In 2009, a fourth coach in as many years and a talented group of freshmen joined the roster. Playing mostly underclassmen; Morgan won two games that year, five in 2010, and tied for most wins in school history in 2011 with an 8-3 mark. 2012 looked very promising as nearly 40 boys lifted weights all winter for preparation for the next season. Then, on March 2nd a deadly tornado ripped through West Liberty, Kentucky completely destroying the football facilities: lights, fencing, press box, field house and concession stand--all gone. With debris deeply enbedded in the playing field and the storage building which housed dummies, field painting equipment, down markers, etc... destroyed; the Morgan County football team will likely not be able to host a football game in 2012. What these boys need and deserve is a new football facility. One on campus, which actually has a locker room, film room, weight room and storage. The old locker room was a pre-1930's structure which had been used as a WPA program cannery, an electric and welding shop classroom and in 1974 was coverted into a locker room. The old structure did not contain visiting locker rooms or a weight room. The kids often had to climb through/over weight equipment to get to their lockers. Morgan County is so grateful to all who have helped as we begin to rebuild our fine little town. Our children need the normalcy of Friday night fall football and traditions such as the Sorghum Bowl to feel that life will be great again. Please help us to reach our goal to build a new football facility. God bless you. Brian Turner Morgan County Football coach" "Morgan County Football items lost/needed. Two years ago we did this through Wilson. We had to pay the setup cost, but the logo was free if we ordered 24 footballs. Don't know what kind of specials are out there now. We did that as well

There is a time and a place to let yours "off the chain", and 7 on 7 is not the place. If you read the article in USA Today on July 20th, 7 on 7 is about to be "policed" big time. Don't blow your season on a 7 on 7 game. The time to let em off of that chain is when the regular season starts. Just be satisfied to know that yours will growl. An experienced trainer knows when to let his off of that chain! www.highschoolsports.net/sports/preps/football/2011-07-19-7-on-7-high-school-summer-football_n.htm

Have heard/seen lots of different ways -with a towel in dryers -gentle rundown with really fine sandpaper -as mentioned above, just using them in practice a few days-a "bath" and scrubbing: literally washing them and using a stiffer bristle brushDifferent strokes for different folks. Could be a good science fair project for one of your players? We use those both.

Go to Brophy's blogspot. Read a good article on using PVC pipe to make agility ladders. Took the article to our shop teacher at school. He can make 4 of them for $100, and made them so I could screw in "legs" to the ladders and use them as chutes (to be used indoors and out). brophyfootball.blogspot.com/search/label/Agility
