How many different brands of helmets do you guys carry and why?
Do you simply like the variety for the different heads that you see?
Do any of you just carry one brand and that works for you?
I would say the inventory I inherited is 75% revolution and 25% DNA with the DNA about to be phased out (10 year limit) and of course just one vendor is easiest, but don't know if it is best.
Thanks!

At the past school I was at, we had a mix of several brands. Probably 90% Schutt and Riddell, but also some of the other older brands were initially mixed in there. By the time I left we were starting to move towards just buying DNA's.
The job I am currently at is a bit different. We are a startup program and don't actually own any helmets yet. The plan is to buy all of one brand (most likely it will be DNA's. Although our preference would be to get the Revolution Speeds if the rep can get the price down to where it is comparable with the DNA's.) Since we are buying our complete helmet inventory this year, we are going to have the kids fit before we place the order. If we need to go to a different model for 1 or 2 kids we will, but otherwise we will be 95% the same type of helmet.

We have it all. We have Riddell Revolutions, DNAs, Schutt Air XPs, Schutt Air, and unfortunately some old VSRs too.

we incorporated 2 varities..Not because Riddell and Schutt..not because one is better than another but because we we able to fit kids better...A large Schutt for instance might fit better on a kid than a large Riddell

We have all kinds. I'm not sure why. Most of this was inherited when our Head Coach took the reigns in 2007. He likes Riddell, so we have added Revolutions and now, Revo Speeds to the mix. Our old stuff (Schutt Air and Riddell VSR) are being phased out.

I've gotten to a point that most of my HS helmets are revolutions. I prefer them because with the air fill ability, I can fit more kids in what I have a little bit better. They are also ranked well and I'd like to just use 1 helmet if possible. Also the short air needle is needed with revos so if you use the longer needle (from others) you can easily pop the bladder.

Predominately Riddell (Speeds, Revos, Revo IQ) but I have bought some new Schutt XP's for different sized heads...
Phasing out all VSR, old schutts, Adams etc...
80% of our helmets now have 'concussion reducing' technology.. for whatever thats worth.
Going forward I will stick to 70% Riddell, 30% Schutt (XP's) just because most of my players like the Riddell fit/look a bit more... taking nothing away from XP's as they are a great helmet as well.

Of the 90 helmets I have for my MS program, thanks to new regulations in Pennsylvania, I have to replace 69 of them. New PA regulations are that after 10 years, a helmet needs replaced, even if it isn't used every year. Unfortunately with the need to have a selection of sizes, I might have 20 helmets that aren't used every year.

What do you do with equipment you phase out? The company that reconditions our equipment each season is dealing with it. They're taking all of our "expired" helmets, and replacing them with new ones at nice discount.

We have a mix of helmets mainly for fitting them to kids heads. Revo/Speed/DNA/XP ore the ones we have. Any helmets that will not recondition we keep...we dress them with the Friday night decals. We auction/raffle them off/give them to businesses that donate to us etc...

We have about 75 helmets that we have to replace. Our school has been open for the 12 years now and we are like you guys in regards to helmets that have been barely used. Our vendor is also giving a deal with our old helmets too.

We are almost 100% Riddell now. I bought 3 Xenith helmets this year and the kids loved them. However I felt the customer service for Xenith was not the best. The Riddell rep we work with is really good. We have 5 speeds and are going to add another 14 or so this year. Everything is the Revo Riddell's.
Anyone else use Xenith and what is your thoughts on them?

We have a TON of helemts for all sorts of reasons. 50 Speeds, 50 Xenith, all brand new, then some ION's, old Revos, and xps. Our HC buys more then we need.

HS: Mostly Revo, some Revo Speed reserved for previously concussed players, considering a big upgrade (drowning in money)
Club: maybe 50/50 VSR-4/Revo slightly more VSR
Youth: All Adams absolute garbage, don't inflate, cheekpads are a mismatched grab bag of crap, only come in a couple sizes, an absolute crime. The league is pretty underfunded.
Come to think of it, If anyone is unloading some gently used youth helmets, let me know and I'll see if I can put you in contact with the league boss.
