This is the start of my 3rd year coaching. First two in middle school, this year in a very well run youth organization. I coach OL/DL. I have yet to meet a big kid that had a mean streak in him. Have had sever scrappy little kids, a couple of just plain mean ones, and some smallish kids that can bring the wood and love contact, but every single big kid I've had in three seasons has been a big ole teddy bear that I have to constantly stay on to keep them giving full effort, and can't seem to find any that really love to hit. Is this normal? Lots of discussion about the sociological aspects here, but I think a FEW really touched on the MAIN reason. Big...at that age...is generally FAT. FAT can not generate explosiveness or power. FAT usually has no leverage. FAT usually has no stamina... and all of these things are generally exhibited in "aggressiveness" Totally Agree!...

I would like to see articles on: Game planning Breaking down film Offensive Line technique More special teams articles Defensive schemes used to stop ________ program building articles are always good career advice (resumes, applying for jobs, etc) as far as potential candidates for videos go (assuming the length and quality improves): Monte Kiffin (defense vs. "the spread") Wofford Offense staff Air Force offense staff Joe Bugel Jim McNally Applachian State offense staff Urban Meyer program building Grand Valley State Univ passing game Steelers defense give spreadattack his own section and ill sign up for a lifetime membership pretty much all this... Gameplanning... is a must

We have had our share of injuries this year... som significant son not so much.... our big one is the number of concussions we are experiencing.... not just on tackles or being tackled... some just hit their head... does anyone use shock absorbing mouthpieces?.. and which do you prefer

Play the subs.... emphaisze that everyone is a cog in the machine.... when we pitch a shutout, we reward our kids with doughnuts..so that is on the line for them and the starters remind them of that

We do a "Cloth" Sale. The kids earn theirs. I write their # on the tag and all you get is one.

1-5. Fundamentals, Fundamentals, Fundamentals, Fundamentals, Fundamentals- have a large emphasis on individual and group, stress technique and keys- as a varsity HC, I can think of anything more important- The problem is coaches egos at this level, everyone wants to win, and teaching basics and drilling is a lot less fun than being Mike Martz with X and o's, but a real loyal jr/middle school coach gets it. 6. Making football enjoyable- if their experience sucks because of an overbearing a-hole of a coach or staff, the kid will not return, and at out place may never come back 7. Teach physical and mental toughness8. Teach terminology and system used at the high school level[/u][/b][/u]- the best school in our area has their jr. high, and all Pop Warner run the same spread attack as the the varsity 9. Introduction to strength and conditioning- 1. teach core lifts properly w/little weight, this also makes kids understand that the weight room is a nessecity for them in your program 10. Make sure ALL kids get playing time- you never know with kids, they chnage a ton form 7th grade to 10th [/quote] completely agree. This is the ideal situation. A story about a jr high coach i coached with my first yr. We had a big staff meeting ( jr high, 9th, varsity) got play books, etc, expectatons. We started practice 3 weeks later and lo and behold we are running the wishbone. we were a Wing T team. I had no idea what the hell he was doing. So i g ask why we are running this. He says the HS playbook is to hard ,and THIS PLAYBOOK IS A WINNER! I ratted him 19 seconds after that practice.
