NO and I try NOT to be out there.
If I were at a different school I probably would be.
Earlier this year our cheerleaders knelled. The kids have that right. I know a lot of my players would have. My purple heart marine vet coach may have. So we are just never out there usually. We have been b4. But because our locker room is 10 feet for the endzone, we don't come out until 1 minute b4 kickoff.

It starts with you.
We have a LOAF policy it is clearly defined.
But you have to a list for everything.
What things must be done in practice, drills for each position, what do you need from your coordinators before Monday all of these are your non-negotiables

We do....
Our kids get here....
Pros: allows our kids/coaches to spend time on Thursday focusing on JV/9th grade or study hall or extra film. Free time for Thursday afternoons
Cons: We have to pack a lot of stuff into a short time, but this is our 3rd year so we have gotten it done

we have clearly defined standards for missing practice and loafing.
Define it and hold everyone accountable.

We go Shells and girdles and never tackle to the ground.
We have had less injuries
Now I am not saying this is the reason why.
Now in spring football we go full pads as much as possible during the season no.
If you are going to do this. You must have a SERIOUS LOAF policy and hold them to it, ESPECIALLY in practice. Filming practice would be a plus.

We spend a lot of time talking about changing the culture of winless schools. So what have you done to get your program that is historically for you 6-4, 7-3 over the hump. In finally beating the big dawg in your area or making it out of the 1st round of the playoffs? You're never over the hump. There's a new hump every year. As for a situation like that described, winning the district would be the next step. To do that you'll have to beat the perennial power in the district. Design your system to do that. Once you have won district 2 years in a row and can't get past the 3rd round of the playoffs, then what?

You don't see great programs with lousy defenses. I was just asking in general. But the 2 years we won 9 games we had good defenses. last year we didn't. I was wanted to know if times did different things. Now the team that won state in our classification last year and won our region., Sent 13 guys FBS. LOL

Find a way to get them on the same page buy-in
Find a way to accomplish the goal of getting them to work together.
Find a way to get them to be around each other - WEIGHT ROOM
Then once you realize who your best 8-10 have them compete but always train them on how to lead.

we sent 120 in this year, had 10 rejected. 7 were Xeniths and 3 riddell. Riddell did the reconditioning. MY AD and Riddell are having a nice conversation right now.

We require our kids to wear certain colors, doesn't have to be the same. it's there stuff no need to worry about washing it.
Our school and team sells so many tee shirts that it isn't hard to get a white, black, gray or blue school shirt.

Does anyone not meet on Sunday but meet Monday before school? I had a friend who is a HC try it this year. he didn't like how it went, felt his staff didn't do enough prep b4 the meeting. We don't do it because we lift and watch film b4 practice

I honestly feel I'd have a big turnover of coaches if we met on the weekends, esp. Sundays. I understand. I have never been on a staff that didn't meet saturday or sundays, sometimes both. HATED both. I prefer saturday for family time over Sundays

How does your Sunday or Weekend Staff Meetings Go???
For us..
2pm - I am the HC (1st thing we do is injury report from ATC, I give out practice schedule for the week done mostly online but we discuss) 2:20 pm - Each staff member has to have a POTW nomination 4 clips on HUDL (that's my way of knowing they watch film, I may have them turn in grades this year but hasn't been an issue) then we vote as a staff
2:35 pm - STC goes over last week film and opponents, what he wants to do this week...
2:50 pm - Staff Prayer for Dinner
3:00 pm - Offensive & Defensive Staff Break For Game plan until...
I am the OC but we script Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday on offense, I go over to get the defensive game planning while the O guys are putting the finishing touches on the script, we are done around 7 - 7:30 ish.....

GA 13 days to have 10 practices. Padded and No padded any time with a ball counts. Spring Game.
It depends on how good ur track team, baseball and soccer team is. Could start in feb have until last day of school 2 be done.
Our track team is the depending state champs, so my QB, star DB and others will miss the 1st 5 practices most likely.

2400 kids, almost NONE play all three sports!
75% of my kids do a second sport with track being number one.
We lift in the morning so we have no off-season attendance problems.

But answer your question how much is enough? Here we require our kids to be here for morning workouts they must make 75% to play spring football. HOWEVER, the receive bonuses for playing a second sport. This week our attendance was 88, 64, 72, 78. This is only 10-12 grades. Last year we averaged 51. and we had a down season lost in the 1st round of the playoffs. So know you can require high expectations and still have a good turnout. Coach, I completely agree with you. I will only speak for myself when I say that my intention in this thread is to communicate that their is a difference between HIGH expectations and UNREASONABLE expectations. IMO, asking kids to do something before AND after school several months before their season even starts, is flirting with the unreasonable IMO. I think you can get a TON done by only meeting 3-4 x per week. I look at it this way. How would we as faculty feel if our principals decided that our SAT scores aren't reaching our potential and was going to start requesting (not "mandatory" of course) that we start coming in 3 x week earlier than we already do and making ourselves available to students and then pushing us to all stay and extra hour after school as well 4x week to continue teaching students who would be willing to take advantage of the opportunities. Pretty sure a lot of the guys on this board (myself included) would start to complain, rebel, hit up the union rep, etc in a short period of time. On the other hand, if the principal asks for some REASONABLE volunteer time I'm sure most buildings would have several people who are happy to do so. I feel that MOST FB coaches can do a better job of putting themselves in a kids shoes from time to time. JMO. I agree and I should mention that our track team won state last year so kids want to run track, they are the ones with the rings not us.

Yes we are the only team in our league without a "football tech class". There is one section of weight lifting that is ran like a cross fit cardio class I think thats your problem. Why isn't someone teaching weight training who is knowledgeable? Does he coach football? Coach you know it's many schools without football players in weight training. I would know....

For those of you who coach both football and track, is this in addiction to being a teacher? I wouldn't do it just because I'm not willing to grind that many months out of the year. Two sports? Weekends ... I don't think so. I did it. Yes it was a grind but in GA most football coaches are the track coaches. When I became Hc I stopped, but I know a ton of HC that are still the track coach.
