Just cause the other teams do it, doesn't mean you have to..
How much access to your players do you have in the summer?
We get padded camps, so after we leave FCA Camp, I don't put pads on till the 5 days after the state says we can. We work on us.

Focus on solutions and not problems.
As a HC, you are RESPONSIBLE for problems you did not create.
You can delegate authority but not responsibility

Year 19 loading, 12 till retirement age from Education.
I have had the chance to be an AD, I love coaching right now. Not sure I have an issue, I could see myself as an AD or still riding the wave. 1 day at a time.

Effort Jerseys Daily #1 Thing..
Currently in the off-season for lifting and other sports - still doing POTW..
We give away gatorade and snacks daily based on practice.
Our best rising 9th grader in attendance wins the hard hat award. He brings it to every game and places it on the sledgehammer pre-game. hardest worker.
Old School - we called the offense blackshirts - (they got blackshirts when they earned it by having no loafs in a game as long as they played at least 10 plays)
REWARD the behaviors you want without embarrassing the other kids.

So next year makes my 12th year as HC. From schools with 2400 kids to now 432 kids. The school I was at for the 1st 6 years as a HC, probably had 20 FBS/FCS kids in those 6 years. School 2, 1 year - 1 FBS, 1 FCS School 3, 2 years - 4 FBS, 2 FCS School 4 (the small one) - going on year 3 this year - 1 FCS, next year will probably have 2 FBS and 1 FCS in this class. 2 currently on NFL rosters to end the season.
I am in Metro Atlanta. 2 teams I played against in my conference at school 1. 1 foe had about 60 in 6 years FBS/FCS the other had around 42ish.

I see coaches do players like this in the NFL, why is that ok?
NFL all grown men.
WAY different than HS and College.

Mental Toughness is confidence. How do you create that? Whatever is your best way do it.
Do you have a system for forgetting mistakes. Do you reward Effort? Finish?

Something that irritated the crap out of me was teams staying in gun in short yardage situations and running the ball by handing off to a back. It seemed to me that the vast majority of these plays got blown up. I would much prefer getting the QB under center in those situations so the RB can get a full head of steam. We stay in the gun but we have 3 FullBacks who are my best 2 DL, and LB. QB run game is coming.

It can be done and successful.
I did it before as a HC during the season. But the HC I am NOW, no way!
We went 6am M,T,TH in season (school didn't do weight lifting during the day). They didn't practice Thursday after school and Wednesday was No-Sweat 75 minutes and STILL. I have no plans on doing it again. Ever if I am in charge, and we don't do it now at my current school.
But hey... ROME was not built in a day, but you can burn yourself in 1

Title 1 school.
A lot of our kids have to worry about good dinners.
Our sponsorship deal with Little Ceasers is in FOOD. We have 2 slice Tuesday (They usually get 5-6 because of the amount) but a catchy name.
Feeding them, so important.
As a non-profit FEEDS all students at our school, after school who stay for activities.

coachdawhip While true, I think info like that is cart before horse type of things. Teams that are winning games are playing better. Playing better means making explosive plays and not turn the ball over. I think coaches, especially HS would do better to monitor things that impact the play as opposed to focus on outcomes. I disagree.
Analytics are Analytics... I think knowing what to chase is better than just chasing ghosts.
We spend time on P&10, because I have 7 years of data that proves my team scores more when we get 4 plus on 1st down. SO we emphasize it in gameplanning and practice.
We spend more time working explosive plays for the week, even if on air because sometimes you DO have to manufacture them.
We stress takeaways more on defense, through what we do at practice just as much as turnover circuits.
We practice redzone extended times because we have to score when we get there.
We have talked about and may do more things to prep the middle 8.
Too many coaches say well that's just college stuff
and do Indy group 7on7 / ISR Team
and fail to be successful at critical time.. Football is simple rep the base stuff to sleep and prepare for crunch time (but understanding what is crunch time matters)

Whether you enjoy Branding your team or not, you have indeed done it.
I say do it, The Power of Moments are important, it is not a substitute for hard work and winning however it should be included on to it.

Does playing music at practice help you play better-win? In HS football for example music - from bands or PA - is not supposed to be played after RFP (Ready for Play) signal. Seems like it be just another (big) thing to set up for practice. But apparently it works some programs? I was a HC at a Black HS, went to a HBCU, one thing YOU DO NOT DO is tell the band when they cannot play.....
Our band never stops playing.....LOL

I don't stop. Kids just need a reason. Get your current players to help. Get them to a workout, we have spring we tell them to come try spring and got from there. This kid, took us until he was a senior to come out.... For him and us, glad he kept at it. Thought he was gonna be D1 in basketball. 247sports.com/Player/Deandre-Butler-46052396/

Saw this post on Twitter brought it here: Coaches: what's your program's tag line? A great tag line should be short (2-6 words) and easily remembered. Ones I have used..... #BarkTogether #ClampDown #RebuildTheCity At my Old School #BringTheHammer
Also waiting for the 2 or 3 of you... To tell us that it ain't never won a game so I don't have any....Blah...Blah..Blah

For us- most wear Jerseys or any Team Gear that we've given them (shirt/hoodie etc). I don't care. If it's an away game they wear team gear...white jerseys with spaghetti day is no bueno. Jerseys are tight these days and uncomfortable so if they don't want to wear it they don't have to. Shirt and Tie...I like it! but not for my program I don't emphasize gameday dress very much. It's a "controllable" that's not worth my energy. I don't believe it helps win games in any way. I DON'T subscribe to the "look good/play good" idea. I was an ass-kicker who wore duct-taped cleats in college because I couldn't afford new ones. I have homeless kids, poor kids, an occasional semi-affluent farming family who sold their farm to developers...not all are equal! The homeless kid coming to school and not being hungry is a HUGE concern for me more than what they are wearing. Coach in a similar situation and we are a huge title 1 school, with a high homeless population. I have done everything. This year we wore shirt and tie. Principal got the ties and the staff donated shirts. But I feel ya. I am a look good pretty boy though. LOL
