For your qb in a 5 yard shotgun do you have the center spiral the ball back???
I saw two teams today that had the center hold the top of the ball and get a dead ball back there to the qb.
Thoughts?

I give players a copy of the playbook and a binder for $5. This way they have invested in it and if they lose it they just lost $5.
Our main way to get it out is by email. I will email it to them if they give me their email then they can print it.
We do a lot of chalktalk with powerpoint projections the playbooks are made from. The projection has color but the printed is black and white.
Keep in mind we are very low budget and volunteers so that's the most we can do. I wish I could make an animated CD with the plays cut in. WOW!

When their players have to keep pulling up their pants during warmup because they dont fit properly. Lots of future plumbers on that team! LOL

I have done both and I have also done simply a play type of call with right and left. I like the # system of back to hole the best. There is no perfect system and you will often have to bend the rules of the sytem a bit now and then no matter what you run. So for my two bits the vote would go for back to hole # system.

I just try to make it football related. They dont let us use jousting sticks on the field. So the bag wrestle teaches to hold onto your tackles esp vs spin. Ball wrestle ...obvious... I guess the QB could towel wrestle the center but not sure we want that

Mahahahaah...Yes Airman!!!
Anyways...we do bag wrestle and ball wrestle. Bill Williams stuff.
Bag Wrestle - 2 players wrap their arms around one bag. Then they try to wrestle it from the other guy. Gets pretty wild. 6 seconds to win it. Most of the time its a draw. Had one little WR getting swung around by an olinemen. It was like a lap dog holding onto a chew toy when you swing him around the yard. HAHAHAH laughed so hard!!! At the end we had a team cheer for that guy for being so dang TOUGH!!!
Ball wrestle same idea. One guy has ball. Other guy is fitted on his ball side. On whistle BC has to drive forward carrying man until he crosses 5 yards. Defender tries to rip it out. If BC cannot advance anymore he should go down. Teaches them ball security and creating turnovers. Plus fun as hell.
Anyways, those are some toughness drills (call them INTENSITY DRILLS) we do without having to risk banging it up. Though the bags get pretty bent outta shape!

They only thing we offer is water / gatorade. We have had parents bring oranges and that is fine and the players seem to like them. When I played they did that and I liked the oranges and felt it helped me catch better with the sticky orange juice on my hands I dont think fruits spike as much as chocolates do on the energy spike level. I think they last longer with less dropoff... Some players eat powerbars but thats up to them... The worst thing I see now is kids drinking Red Bull Energy drinks at halftime...

"Intense but not idiots"
Had to implement that when early in my career. Had one team so fired up as soon as one kid got on the field he treated it like it was a war and got tossed on the first play...geezzz...
I also hate when players say they want to "Kill" or "rape" the opponents. They are not allowed to express themselves by saying that....

Have you seen the video Football America?
In the Alaska part there is a RB who only has a thumb and a finger. So he always carries the ball with his "normal" hand.
Maybe your RB and their family could use this as inspiration as a "it can be done" model???

I agree with you on the Homer Smith book. However, I have his manuals and since they are more focused on topics I found I learnt a lot more from them.

Can't help but watch this and add the comment...WOW...The Ravens are really bad this year!!!
Do you think Billick will be back? He has not been able to deliver. Why does he keep thinking he can win without a major league QB???

Yeah Winning is the cure all...
You can arm your players with comebacks... Pep rallies would be a good place. Make highlight films and have them shown over the school monitors. Everyone looks like a winner on their highlight film...
Yeah I was surprized to see this topic...

I don't like my players or coaches to use "rape" or "kill" when referring to their opponents. I just think those are so innappropriate ....

Agreed with QB beaters. If you give us free run at your qb we will go after him. Pretty soon he becomes transparent and will pitch and duck quickly. Then we let our force and pursuit clean up the pitch back. Hahah...of course it works just like that everytime

Spurrier had is Gators go on 2 most of the time. Then it is easier to change it up and go on one. Once they get 2 down the others are easier to change to. But if you start with one then its a harder transition. Not that we do it...its a theory...

Agreed. Just all the syllable talk was giving me nightmares...sorry...jk...
We go on the Hu of Hut...The pitch change to the U is stressed as the T is too late...
However if we quick count we go on the G of Go...
I too would like to see more about this as mastering the cadence and being able to change it up is essential and any way to improve my understanding would be appreciated!

Agreed. I tried to go through the sections to find video clips and it was fruitless. If you search video clips you dont have much more luck. I think anytime someone posts something with a video link in it it would be great if we could copy it into a video forum. So it exists in its topic (as TOG said) and is doubled in a video forum. This gets the best of both worlds. Sometimes I think there is too much talky-talky and I just wanna watch some football!!!
Thanks!

How to get sponsors? What deals to offer? etc???
Any advice / ideas / how do you do it would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I agree, if you can't come up with "What -ifs" for X and O talks then whats the point of this forum??? I am surprized that the old cliche "its not the X's and O's but the jimmy and Jo's that matter" has not shown up. But it has I supposse... Anyways, I thought it was a simple enough question that brought up some good discussion. You also kept it alive several times to keep it going. My 1st thought that I did see some touch on was to elimiate the corners by trying to have them cover my not-best recievers. By this I mean if I could not use #1's at the WR I would use them somewhere else hoping that the corners would still stay on the edge. Try to get a WR vs a LB who is not as good in coverage as that corner is. We had this issue as a team blitzed the hell out of us and our WR's could not beat their corners. It was a long day. Our QB got pounded when we tried to shovel and option. A screen got picked off for a TD. We jumped offside when we tried to change up the cadence. It was a group of kids that just did not have the moxie the other team did. I was outcoached but also out jimmy and joe'd

I have some of his clinics and notes. Good stuff. Pretty technical. No powerpoints or anything lol. But a respected coach that all other coaches should see at some time. Maybe a bit too pro and beyond what we can do with our High School guys...
