Coaches,
I am a first time head coach at our school and I am getting going on our Gameday programs.
Do you have any tips on do's and dont's?
How to get sponsors? What deals to offer? etc???
Any advice / ideas / how do you do it would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Have lots of pictures of your players (individuals and various groups-Sr's, Jr's, ect; all linemen, backs, etc.). Also include lots of pictures of ALL SUPPORT people ( cheerleaders, trainers, band, color guard. etc). The more you get into the program, the more support you will get for your program.

Trya nd get your yearbook sponsor on board - they will already be used to selling ads and creating layouts . Getting a parent who is fired up to help the team is also good. With digital cameras it's easy to get all of the photos of the players, cheerleaders, etc. as well as scanning ad copy. Figure out what incentives you're going to offer to sponsors - many times they are already fans and presenting them with a "Coaches" Hat or t-shirt will go a long way to their upgrading their ad to the next level.

I agree strongly with the idea of given out "coaches" hats and clothing to advertisers... they love that crap...
also, as was suggested, include as many different groups of people as you can... parents/grandparents/family love to buy pictures of their kids/grandkids/family, so you will sell more programs...
Also, sell space in the program to the parents of the players/cheerleaders... let them put baby pictures or some kind of senior sendoff add in the program, again, parents love to spend money to see their kids in pictures and whatnot...
*also, make sure you list your players as at least 2 inches taller, and 15-20 pounds heavier, and if you include a 40 time, drop that by at least .1 seconds.... never know who you might impress/scare/make laugh??

Don't forget to include the BOE, Superientent, and Principals in the program. They love seeing their names and titles in print.

We also put in a football 101 type thing...official signs for penalties, list of jargon...stuff for the mothers and fathers that never played. That went over big with the parents. Also letter from the A.D. about sportsmanship and the goals of the athletic program.
