Hey guys.
After the "year of the bull" posting (which disgusted me) I thought I would throw these out to see what you guys think. I am not judging these coaches. Just seeing what you guys think. Its amazing what is on youtube...
Watch the end "do you have any pride Danny!?!"

How do you adjust your splits?
I was using common sense rules where the guys do their own adjustments based on the play. But our O.Line coach (who is awesome) has us use calls to each other when we break the huddle to remind us to change our splits based on the coded call.
Would like to know what the rest of you do!

Have you seen this??? Does anyone have copies of these scouting reports? I would like to get my hands or eyes on some...
Look up football scout in ebay. I was trying to find Steve Belicheck's book...
Get this amazing (207 page) HIGHLY DETAILED scouting playbook! It was prepared for the game against Indianapolis! What plays to run and more! This playbook is great for any football coach who may want to learn more about how an NFL Team game plans! This is highly detailed! And well woth having!

Any problems with it? Do you have them bolted in?
Do you have them out in the open near the field or in a shed or covered???

Coaches,
We have not kept the blocking bags on our sleds over nights as people were worried about people using them (liablity), vandalism, theft...etc...
What do you do?
We have an old 5 man Mod Sled and I would like to keep the bags on overnight during training camp.
Thoughts???
We were going to bolt them in so no one could take them off....

I always tell em Excuses are like A-holes and they all stink. Or excuses are like farts, you may think yours dont stink, but they do!
I guess its also about teaching them how to be a man. Have a talk about accountability. How you respect em more if they admit they did wrong and that they will fix it then that they deny it.
I hear you man. I told my All-Start WR he messed up as he was in the wrong formation and he said no way. So we had a bet and when we watched film he ate his crow...
Its a generation thing. They all like to blame each other and laugh at each other's mistakes, but they dont own up to there own. Course who likes to!?!

Bill Williams tapes - Hahha I am just kidding. But if you say series then maybe that counts. He has done hundreds so that would cover me I really like the series Nebraska put out a few years back with Championship Producations. The Legends of the Game coaching series was pretty good for overall quality and fundamentals The Munoz / McNally series is key as you do need to do the most and best work with your Oline. For D I really like Jerry Sandusky's stuff from Penn State.... Hmmm...good Q...Dont think I could narrow down my hundreds of videos to just a few...

I thinking shifting can be very valuable to an offense and frustrating for a D.
However, you have to be careful of tendencies or you lose your advantage. If you always start in the same set to shift then its a bit obvious. Its harder to defend a team that has multiple look shifts.
I would call one set then shift to another. Ie (Pro Shift to Trips .... )
If you let players line up whenever then you are not really disguising.
Again, as a DC what would give me fits is a team that shifts from one look (that they use often) to another and that they can do this with multiple looks in the same game and any game...

I have to say I was really shocked how ineffective X and O offenses that are suppossed to help overmatched teams are after watching the Nevada and Hawaii games.
Anyways, with Hawaii. Their tackles were on an Island. When Hawaii brought in the big back I thought they were going to use him to help out, but instead they flared it to him and he got hurt when he tried to run over a DB who said, "screw this, I'm chopping you big boy." I was shocked at how well Georgia tackled and snuffed out screens. I was also shocked at how Hawaii just did not seem to have an answer. Really though, Brennan was rattled. He was not stepping into his throws as he knew he was gonna get it in the chops. He was the most inaccurate I have seen him over the last 2 years.
On the other side Georgia just manhandles UH D. Their oline and backs were too physical. I thought UH should have put everyone in the box and blitzed more to stop the run to force UGA to throw more, as it did not seem they could throw that well...

Where are you guys anyways??? Stuck on the west coast but I would like to participate in an online clinic. If we had a time and date with a white board and chat board it could be do-able... I would like to learn more about; 1) Screens, traps and draws (esp the sprint out) 2) Jet / Fly incorporated into any offense 3) Stunts - techniques, tips, and schemes 4) Defending the Double Wing 5) QB Cadence and O.line calls / communication 6) Short yardage offense and defense 7) The elephant punt Yeah that would be a good first day

I don's know if its hating on the semi-pro. Its just seems a little off-target to inform a team of a meeting on a message board that is intended for coaching discussion. I would suggest that you get your own website to keep members up to date. And / Or post on a more local board.
No biggie really, just strange.

Yeah that is a weird post. I thought it was going to be something about Miami U. Maybe something funny / strange / messed up about a team meeting they had. You know, like players fighting or something...
So to make this more interesting what weird things etc have happened at team meetings for you?
I had one kid ask if it was OK if we tried to take the football away while we made the tackle. ROOKIES!!! And thats when I went into the tackle / turnover circuit discussion.

Agreed Big D. If you pick up one new idea it is worth it. If you find a way to teach something better or different than the way do it now, then it is worth it. If it simply confirms what you already know then it is worth it.
But yeah, some of the time you may be better spent talking to a local HS coach for an hour... I dunno...lol

Man having to laminate is BS. We use the Triple Wrist Band and we just slide the paper in. I have been doing some wristbands on the BUS on the way to the game. Can't imagine having to go through the pain of laminating. That would really restrict it I would think...

By "Superstar" I meant that the parents think their kids are going to get Straight A's (that is also the 90% comment) and go off to univeristy to be doctors or engineers.
Too often they dont realize that their son may not have this academic ability or desire. But they take aways sports as a punishment and over and over again I see the kids rebel or simply not make the changes in their life to get the grades their parents want them to get.
So the problem is, the kid had a C+ average for last year without playing sports. So they are punishing him this year by again NOT LETTING HIM PLAY SPORTS as they want him to focus on his grades.
There is nothing positive for this kid just the parents putting a lot of stress on him and not listening to his point of view.
So thoughts on how to deal with this? FYI The parents are very religious and they think the only thing the kid should be doing is school and church. That's their priorioty list. I don't agree...and I am having a hard time understanding it. I guess my parents were much more liberal...

Coaches,
I am working in an area with parents that think their kids are superstars (aren't we all?). But this is unreal.
One set of parents will not let their kid play unless he has like straight 90%. The kid is not that far off.
Any suggestions or tips on how to deal with this???

I ask this as I see a lot of problems with coaches and players getting HS rules mixed up with what they watch on TV with the NFL and college game.
So I want to make a list of rules that are different in HS.
What rules do you see players, coaches, and parents screwing up the most ? (going to do a Football 101 nights for the parents).
Thanks!
PS- I have not been posting much on sites but this one has really came on lately and I can see some great coaches posting on here with valuable advice!!!
