I am in the process of reading his book "How good do you want to be" , I actually got it before he lied.
Interesting - On page 35 Qoute - "Character is telling the truth, even when the truth hurts."
How can I continue on reading, when he looked into the T.V. and told us he was not going to Alabama.
Do I believe anything else from this book???

I do wonder whether there is more to this than we are being told.
Of, course he should have just said no comment. Everyone would have knew he was leaving with that statement.

Right. The correct response should have been "no comment" or something like "right now I am planning on returning to the Dolphins but at this time I want to evaluate all options." I do wonder whether there is more to this than we are being told. Of, course he should have just said no comment. Everyone would have knew he was leaving with that statement.

I agree with you coachh. He did lie infact he said he was going to be back with the dolphins.
all he would have had to say is this, legally I cannot discuss the situation. it would have ended every thing right there. He could not comment on the bama job until he worked out the kinks in his own contract with the dolphins. I am sure he owes miami some money.

In all honesty, I really care less about this. This is just the media taking a lead and continually shoving in front of everyone's face. I do not believe "all he would have had to say is this, legally I cannot discuss the situation. it would have ended every thing right there". The media would not end this discussion with that statement. I do not condone lying in a profession that stresses integrity BUT the man was trying to keep his team & coaching staff focused on the last couple of games. The media hounds kept at this until he made a comment one way or the other. If he would have told the truth, how many of his players would have given up on him? He made the wrong choice in how to handle the situation but I trully believe his reasoning was to keep the team focused on preparation. Man....I hate the media. Bunch of pirahnas when they smell blood.

all of this is {censored}. at the time of the statement, he was staying with the dolphins. there is not a coach in america that doesn't have his eye on the job board. its worse when you have an agent because he will tell anyone who will listen that you want a new job, even if your not sure. then the money starts flying and he couldn't say no. its unfortunate, but not immorral or even lying.

I'm not a Saban fan, but I've read the book and like the outlined principles he talks about. We all make mistakes, but the guys in the spotlight make them in front of the whole country. I think the best way to classify him in this situation would be... human.

man if we are worried about a coach saying one thing whether intential or not is more important than a President that "didn't inhale" or "I did not have sexual realtions with her" or "read my lips..." then something is freaking qrong...mods please lock this thread its getting hypocritical

to be 100% honest I could not give 2 cents what Saban said. If someone offered me what he was offered to go back to a job I enjoyed more (which maybe he did like coaching college guys better, they are much less narcissistic) I would have also jumped at it regardless of what I said in the media, around the media, to the media, or to my bosses. Face it, money talks. Hmmmmm let's see, if I can make 3,500 to coach here, or 5,000 to coach there what exactly would I do? This one is a no brainer. I do believe he had every intention of staying with the Dolphins, but when the BIG offer came in how was he supposed to turn it down? "No, I am happy makin less to coach the babies in the NFL. I think I am going to stay put in a job I am not enjoying rather than go back to a job I do enjoy. I thought I would enjoy coaching in the NFL, so I tried it, and although I do detest it, I think I will stay put because I have a couple of years left on my contract." ?? What about a contract? Seems to me as NFL and college teams do not put any stock in holding up their end of the bargain. If they did so many teams/colleges would not be paying for 2 or 3 head coaches while currently also paying their current head coach. Give it up, not many of us would not have made the same decision. All this and I am not even a Saban fan.

how many times have you heard GMs, ADs, or Owners declare that "Despite many rumors, Coach _____ is our coach, and will remain that in the future...."........
then 10 hours later that same coach is fired.
?
I read "education of a coach" by Bill Belichick.....and on page 137, 2nd paragraph, 3rd sentence.........he stated, "a coach should always be presentable in his appearance to project respect, wearing cutoff hoodies is unacceptable...."
WHAT AM I GOING TO DO?! MY WORLD IS SHATTERED!

I was not impressed with the Saban book, it was a FB book which made it good, but nothing special.
I liked the part where he was talking about the Last Samurai movie and was goina on about all the warriors from CHINA in the movie. That kind of irritated me.
