What if anything do you feed players at halftime?
I have a "Moms" group who wants the kids to have fruit at halftime but I was under the impression simple sugars dumped into an athlete at half time would be a poor idea as it causes blood sugar levels to spike and the body to respond by dumping insulin to lower them thus ending up with less then you orignally had. Granted I am no nutrionist and I may have entirely misunderstood but that was my understanding.
What have you all done?

We use Water and Gatorade but we also have orange sections available. Some of the kids will eat/suck five or six - others just go with the liquids. We are also South Florida with HIGH heat and humidity which might be different from your locale.

They only thing we offer is water / gatorade. We have had parents bring oranges and that is fine and the players seem to like them. When I played they did that and I liked the oranges and felt it helped me catch better with the sticky orange juice on my hands I dont think fruits spike as much as chocolates do on the energy spike level. I think they last longer with less dropoff... Some players eat powerbars but thats up to them... The worst thing I see now is kids drinking Red Bull Energy drinks at halftime...

I used to have a Snickers or Mars in on the sideline and just grab a bite now and again.... I think it helped keep the sugar levels up, rather than load up and half time then nothing else. I supply oranges segments at HT, but I believe in letting the guys decide what works for them. So far we haven't had my 3tech turn up with McDonalds.... but give him time

Do the power bars help? we only have 26 players and a lot of ours go both ways and are on 2 or 3 kicking teams. if power bars are a big help it could benefit us greatly. we we only play 14-15 players each game. need all the help we can get on fridays. what has been y'alls experience with the power bars. also if they are good, which ones are the best. thanks

If you can have a pre game meal, then do it. Lots of carbs. Pasta type dishes are great. Fruit salads too. 5 gallon jugs of gatoraide and water for drinks.
Water/gatoraide for halftime.
NO ENERGY DRINKS PERIOD!!!! Pre game or half time! That stuff is the devil.

Joe Pa's trainer at Penn St for over 20 years believed in giving Snickers and Heath bars out during HT.
