That's it....keep moving away from those pesky TE's....especially schemes where the TE has a WB next to them....it's too "expensive" to find TE's just spread em and shred em with passes no need to run....don't worry about learning how to defend the run and offenses with three backs...

I would not worry about what you wear or your knowledge level. Because there will always always always be someone who stands out in both areas. There should be a web site "peopleofcoachesclinics.com" like people of Walmart with some of the stuff you are bound to see. Also sometimes it's better to be seen and not heard like the guy who asked Ferentz from Iowa during a talk " What's that circle on the film coach?" "The guy I want to highlight on the play." "What do you mean coach?" "The guy I want you to watch on the play." "Wow how did y'all know during practice he was the one to put the circle on?" "Our video guy did it on the film". "I don't understand that coach"

I think everyone should keep spreading it out and stop running the ball. Yeah that it's abandon the run game all together it's a waste of time and too " expensive" to have in an offense any more. So throw it all the time from spread stuff.
Then we will sit back and laugh a sinister laugh as everyone slowly forgets how to defend the run game epically the wing-t!!! It's a perfect plan for world domination!!!! Muhahahahahaha

Congrats and good luck! No pressure at that school LOL. Have fun enjoying that facility, I remember when it was built and the owner of the Bengals said it was a better facility than they had.

Echo what others have said, just get a plate engraved and rivet it to your end zone camera. I would also mention it in your program for next year, either in the HC letter about the season or get a 1/4 page ad that says "End Zone camera made possible by a generous donation form the estate of____" Maybe that will plant the seed for future donations (as morbid as that seems).

I was part of a program that went to back to back state title games we played 15/16 games those two years and it was a grind. Don't get me wrong it was a great ride but finishing the season a week before Christmas two years in a row was pretty draining. Throw in 2 weeks of camp and three nights a week in July for 2 hours and it's almost half the year in pads for these kids! I just personal think it's too much. Imagine a kid going down with a big injury inone of these games and missing the next season for you. A late December major injury is a lot different than one during the season for most I would assume. I get it's all part of the game but I would be pissed if it happened to one of my players. And even just watching these games it looked like there were, as a rather gruff but smart coach once said, "just cousins and c**ksuckers in the stands" for crowds.
One a side note I found it funny to see Utah has 150 schools playing for 5 class titles while here we have 4 classes with 150 schools each. Always weird to see how other places are set up.

Watching this on espn u. How is this legal by state associations? Why would anyone want to do this to their team? Sure it sounds cool having state champs play but I mean really how much is too much for HS kids?

Well that sounds awful. Ours was bad and it was just a heart attack, your story sounds like the saddest thing ever. It was a week that's for sure. On top of that we are new at this school and you guessed it were playing the school our staff left after being there for a decade so there was a ton of build up because we betrayed them or whatever. The who lost his mom we'll his cousin was the qb of the other team and his dad basically tried to get a lynch mob out after us for leaving. So of course first play of the game they throw at our kid who lost his mom. Kid who lost his mom ended up having a fifty yard TD on a scoop and score needless to say that was quite a moment to witness

We had a situation where a players mom took her own life Sunday night before the last week of the season this year. Kid was a two way starter, captain, and a senior. As it would be that week was senior night as well. Needless to say it was a roller coaster week in our very small community. Bit different for us since we were in season but try and organize the team and go to the viewing/funeral as a group. That seems to be the best way to show support as a team. In honesty the best thing you can do is let him know you are there if he needs anything and stay in touch with him. Sometimes that's all you can do. If he has a good support system around him offering your sympathies and letting him know you care are all you can do. Every situation is different and you prob know what type of situation he is in, just don't force yourself into the situation as I have seen some people try and do.

I don't necessarily call both sides but we are a small school with guys going boths ways and 6 coaches. I am the DC and OL coach with a fair amount of input on play calling, I think it could be done if you have the right experience and are able to delegate some stuff on game night. Like having an assistant you can tell adjustments to take care of when you switch sides of the ball. Also running the right systems is key. We are Wing-T and run a 3-3 that we really don't change much from week to week. If you are someone who tries to game plan and change stuff a lot week to week I think running both sides would be much more difficult.

yes, but you will probably take a pay cut, no insurance or pension What is that an answer to? He just said he was keeping his teaching job and able to coach elsewhere. Coaching in college would be nice for several reason, especially if you don't have the responsibility of a full time assistant which I doubt you would as a teacher still. Can build the resume up. But a HS team that has a chance to win a state title is pretty rare to land a spot with. Both would look good on a resume I would assume but maybe winning at the HS level would give you a bit more juice for a HS job. But who knows it could all depend on your area and what people view as important.

We just trade the previous two weeks in our region, by the end of the season you usually end up with tons of film on your late season opponents any ways.
Another region in our district, it's like the wild west as far as film nothing set by district so each region kind of does it their own way, they trade every game with each other so you load your film in HUDL one way trade with every other school in the region that way if school A and B play and A's film sucks you can still look at B's and get a quality film.

I would tell my GA's they have a lot of work to do breaking down the other 3 teams. I don't follow it very closely but is there a limit on how many practices they can have or when they can start? I thought there were some guide lines about that for bowl teams and did not know if they put those in place for the playoffs as well. Sure that would be a factor in how you get ready. I would bet the teams will focus on their first round opponent since if you don't beat them there is no next game.

Congrats!
Was watching that game and the defense thinking wow they sure are doing a lot and defending the other team well. Guess I know why now!
DC always talks about how basic his defense is, after watching that game don't let him fool you any more LOL

So the huge thrust in football has been player safety the last few years and some states have teams play 4 games in two weeks? This boggles my mind. Who the hell runs those state athletic associations Rodger Goodell?

Stanford and Northwestern compete... they have a specific model they use. I'd probably look to use that model. It's called they can search the country for the smartest and best football players. Trying to apply that to a HS level is not even a close analogy. Was at a small very academic private school and even with the benefits of being a private school it was hard every year to maintain success. You really have to put in the time in the offseason to develop the kids, it's hard no matter where you are to win if you don't have the athletes and you are playing bigger schools in enrollment and roster size.

Time to go.
On another note not to sound like a d**k but don't try and talk yourself in to staying because kids say you are the only reason they are playing, or you are the only one who knows whats going on, blahh blahh blahh. They are teenagers trust me they move on quick. We went to a new school this year and after we got hired I went on to the booster facebook page and was going back reading posts from when the previous coach was let go. All kinds of kids saying they won't play unless so and so was a coach and this guy should get this job on and on and on. We are not playing if... You would have though by reading those posts we would have 15 kids on the roster this year. Well we had one of the bigger teams in awhile for the program. I would be very careful if you are unhappy about staying just because of what the kids are saying. You can still be a positive influence in the school as a teacher.
Sounds like you are unhappy so go. Gotta look out for #1.

We had a wax from wislon I believe we used this year that really brought back the tackiness of the ball when applied with the ball brush.

We don't even get any where near the team when they do this stuff. When it's time to go back to the field after the pre-game talk in the locker room coaches walk the team down then head to the bench and let the players run through a banner or whatever the deal is for that game. Coaches are totally absent from any of it.

Since our city is a yearly contender for the BCS of total snowfall we're pretty use to playing in it. with that being said def get the hand warmers for the players, if they have those wearable hand pouch things stick a few hand warmers in there heats up real nice. Make sure they dress warm especially the kids who prob won't be seeing the field.
Check in as many balls as you can and keep some in the locker room to use after the half. Get lots of towels for the ball boys to use.
I would wear cleats no matter what.
Other than that it's just like rain really just a bit colder.

Been down 14-0....30 seconds into the game!?!?! We think we may have set a national record for most points given up in 30 seconds and wanted to check LOL Second play of game we threw a pick six then fumbled the kick off which they returned for a td. Was a great way to start off the playoffs!
