At an end of the year meeting for all region, etc... and the head of the committee made a proposal that was passed: We are going to trade with each other as many films as we agree.
In the past, it was most recent 3 for region play ( usually it's beginning game 4-5 for most of us) Basically he said, if you want to get film on me then you can find it somewhere so why don't I just give you what you want.
Does anyone do something similar to this? What is your experience?
I didn't know that this meeting would one to bring up stuff like this or I would have prompted my HC to make this proposal: all region teams post film with each other on Hudl every week. That way there is not an issue with trade timing, what film is out there for the team playing "WE ALL HATE HS", we can break down film whenever we have the time, not just on the little free time of our weekends, etc..... Any opinions on this?
Thanks

I would be all for it. Why would anybody be against this? Lets take the sweet 16 behavior out of it. This open up an offseason to all sort of preparation for region, district play.

Within our conference we have full exchange of every game every week, film is supposed to be up on the exchange system within 24hrs. For non-conference games in the national playoffs it's 3 games, and for non-conference exhibition games it's usually three but it's negotiable.

Our conference by-laws say that we are suppossed to trade ALL PREVIOUS GAMES. Now most teams just agree to exchange 2-3, but we do trade all with our biggest rivals and they made a point at our end of year meeting that we start trading everything and following the by law.

In our district we trade tight/wide for every game the whole season. I love it. I don't care what they have, I want to see every play they've ran all year.

We do 2 most recent games by rule. Problem with us is that people have very different qualities of film. Some real tight, some real wide...some not HD quality, some done by kids and not paid professionals (who aren't always dependable either). It makes for some real problems...would love all games up by rule so we could filter through the crap.

We just trade the previous two weeks in our region, by the end of the season you usually end up with tons of film on your late season opponents any ways.
Another region in our district, it's like the wild west as far as film nothing set by district so each region kind of does it their own way, they trade every game with each other so you load your film in HUDL one way trade with every other school in the region that way if school A and B play and A's film sucks you can still look at B's and get a quality film.

our region has at least 2, some teams ask for more. It doesn't matter to me, because guess what people know everyone and you can get film!
Playoffs are up to the school, Round 1, we did last 5, round 2 we did everything, round 3 we did last 5.

We're moving from a 11-man region that put everything up on the league pool to a 9-man region that wants to trade only the last two games each Saturday. They had some BS excuses for it (something about the league pool feature not working unless everyone had Silver or something... 7 out of 8 teams in the region we're leaving only had the exchange package and it worked great for us). I explained that we could get it setup, but they ubruptly ended discussion before changing anything. I think it's stupidly ridiculous. Having it all open is the way to go, IMO.
Tried getting some film from the teams leaving this new region, and from non-region teams that played them last season, and no one will help. 9-man football must be a secret society or something...

All it boils down to is this: Some coaches don't want to watch every film. I am a film hound and will watch anything I can get on an opponent, even previous years.
However, some coaches do not want to break down a lot of film so they don't want to give you an advantage by giving you extra film. They know we can get it anyway most of the time, but not always. If a coach is good friends with other coaches in your league, you may not have an easy time getting it.

Our league is the last 2 games I believe. It often ends up being the last 3. Most teams are willing to do the last 2 games on Thursday and then the most recent 3rd game on Saturday. We usually get decent film from others, but there is still a lot to be desired compared to what we have. I guess we're just spoiled in that regard.

everyone has HUDL nowadays
there are a ton of sites who film and host full games online, you can find all the film you want heck you can even just browse through kids hudl highlights and see a lot
our league (6 team league, last 5 games) has mandatory film of previous 2 games, we trade saturday morning through hudl this has been the rule for a while all the coaches are pretty good about if a coach wants more film, they comply and ask for more too by the time it gets to the end of league, youve seen just about everybodys whole season
we added a rule this year that JV/Freshman will exchange at least 1 game
