How many of you trail the players onto the field on game night vs lead them onto the field? Why do you choose to do what you do?
In my career I've never run on the field ahead of my players. I've always chosen to follow them. For me it's not about me, it's their night.

Either trail or already be on sidelines waiting on them.

I think our coaching staff trails mostly because they see the 80 yard jog from the locker room to the bench somewhere between the Boston marathon and running up the beach on D day. We got a lot of coaches that shop at big and tall. Mostly in the big section....

I usually trail because I like to make sure everyone is out and the locker room is locked up. I also think it's undignified for my rolly polly ass to run in front of that many people.

Mostly for those reasons there, but also because I don't want to be out front and make anything about me. I'm perfectly content to stand back in the shadows for most of life. In HS when we'd run out through a banner and the cheerleader tunnel I'd always dip over to the side and run around. I've never ran through a tunnel or banner or helmet or anything in my life. Somehow I've survived.

We don't even get any where near the team when they do this stuff. When it's time to go back to the field after the pre-game talk in the locker room coaches walk the team down then head to the bench and let the players run through a banner or whatever the deal is for that game. Coaches are totally absent from any of it.

There were two bulls standing on a hill. One old, one young. A farmer came and unloaded a bunch a cows in the same field at the bottom of the hill. The young bull turned to the old bull and said "lets run down there and screw one of those cows". The old bull replies "lets walk down there and screw them all".....

I'm usually out late because I'm grabbing a few defensive players or offensive linemen and making absolutely sure they know what we're tweaking in the second half. If we blow someone out and I'm out in time before they run through, I walk to the sideline and let them run through the banner. I used to do the same thing as a player. It's not like I didn't like my friends/teammates doing it, it just wasn't the way I preferred to go about my work.

I'm in the box, so I head up with about 12 minutes to go before kickoff or 5 minutes before the end of half time. I'm upstairs with my call sheet out making notes by the time our guys get out. That's my preference because I want to be 100% ready to go @ kickoff.

I'm one of those guys that is already on at the bench waiting on the kids, cleaning up the sidelines, making sure the kicking net has balls ect. I feel as Friday night is about the kids. Monday through Thursday is my time, Friday is theirs.
