We use Hudl. I make the whole game available to the kids. However each position coach is to make a 10 clip playlist for his position group. This year, especially during august camp we will watch video by position group.

I thought this was a very very classy move when I heard about it.

Great question and it depends on depth. When and where you can spell a guy. For example in our offense we had a HB who started both ways. He was more valuable on D. We never took him off on defense. When he needed a blow we had 2-3 other kids we could sub in at HB and not lose much.
In 2010 we had a stud OL who was also our best DT. He got his blow on defense. I let my DL coach take care of that sub cycle. I took care of the offense.

The number heard at a football clinic was 85%. Maybe that's too high. But that is the number that stuck in my head.

Can he go coach elsewhere out of the NFL? Like if he went to a high school and asked to work with QBs a couple times a week as a volunteer? Heck I would take him.
As for me.....I have not had a year without football since I was 14 so thats most of my life. I would not like it.

Arguably the most successful program in my state since the mid70s has junior high football but they play no games. Everything is intramural. Massive numbers.

That's kind of my point. The Hangover isn't making kids alcoholics any more than Dee Snider made satanists out of kids 25 years ago. Kids are plenty capable of being idiots on their own, and always have been. I think there has to be some blame on the parents for permitting this behavior, and for allowing to spin out of control. Parents need to stop being their kids friend, and be their parent. I need to be licensed by the state to teach and coach, but nobody needs a license to be a bad parent.

Our seventh grade scrimmages other teams and there are no special teams. Eighth grade plays full out games.

I think it can be more pronounced in small schools. 40 kids at a small school is a bigger problem than 40 kids in a big school.

I find ways to get FOOTBALL on minds of kids. I do a newsletter every coupleof months that highlight alumni, kids lifting improvements and awards, and whatnot. It also features things going on in the elementary school and life lesson items like character building. Then the elementary teachers hand itboutnand read it I class. Promotes literacy. Itnalsongoesnto MS and HS students too. Dudes if you type fast on an iPad and don't check it carefully you wind up with words like itboutnand.

Typically I get home a little earlier on Thursdays. After things get settled at home with the family I will watch a little more video on the laptop (or iPad this fall) work on any call sheet revisions and relax for a few minutes with my spouse.

Last year I used rewards in the clips. For example redeem this clip for a Gatorade. We still had varsity kids who didn't log a single minute of video study outside the meeting room. So this fall we will be using a combination of carrot and stick methods.
We are also going to be giving kids quizzes about what they see online.

In our conference I feel we'd handicap ourselves one loss for every sophomore we have to start if the other teams are playing all juniors and seniors which many are.
In 2010 we started 2 sophs and lost twice. Last year we started 4 sophs and lost four games. Most of those losses were early in the season.

Physically it is easy to tell. I also agree the emotional and mental aspect has to be evaluated as well.

Teams have to stay poor hungry and driven to be successful year in and year out. If you're not then you end up hitting the hump over and over. That goes for the coaches too.

We did some competitive drills. Full pads. Do have outside coaches come in some years. We scrimmage another local team that we do not see during the season. They run their camp at the same time we do. The last day we bring it.

We do our camp after wt room for 3 hours. We charge $30. They get a tee shirt We focus on fundamentals and installing our schemes. Really our schemes should be partially installed anyway from work over the summer.

Where is the AD in all this? I think if I ever became an AD I would lay down the law on two items: 1. Strength Training 2. That every coach MUST encourage multisport participation. If a header or assistant poo-poo'd another sport they would get their ass run out ASAP.

All of those stats are good indicators. I would also like to propose sometimes there are stats that could be specific to your program. For example in the last four years we have not won a game in which we attempted 11+ passes. We have also not lost a game in which we have run it over 50 times. Of course if you accumulate 50+ rushing attempts you are probably not turning the ball over, and you are converting 3rd down etc.

I went and watched our video of that game now too. When we subbed in those backs we had at least 3/5 of the starting OL in at any one time. I agree that unless you're playing a really hapless team you need to leave at least some of your OL in there.

We won our first round play off game by a large (obscene) margin. We were up 44-0 at the end of the first quarter. At that point I did the following:
First I brought in three back up backs to run with the QB and first OL. Then next series I went backup QB with some of the first backs for reps.
Then we went wholesale JV offense for the entire second half. It was 66-0 and wound up 75-7.
