I wasn't at Baltimore but this has been going on for years at other Glaziers and clinics in general.

Weight room. Team that sweats together stays together. I also agree with other earlier activities too.

Thanks. Obviously a public school could not use that phrase. I do think its neat and appropriate for a school like St. Xavier to do that.

I saw a photo of Cincinnati St. X, on the front of their helmet was the letters AMDG. I would like to know what that stands for. Thanks.

Before every game we talk about the fact that of the 150 some odd snaps there will be 5-7 plays that will have a huge bearing on the outcome of the game. Be ready to make those plays and stop those plays, as well mentally ready to be resilient if one of those plays is missed by us or made by them.

Mojo in high school is huge. If you have momentum its almost like your team is playing downhill.

Section finals this year. The team we beat lost a player the week before in an accident. They burried him Thursday, came to our place Friday. It was a very emotional game for everyone on both sides. We won 21-15 coming from behind. We had to make a stand inside the 10 late in the game. Then we converted two 4th and ones inside our 40 because I didn't want to give them the ball back.

For me it developed through taking ideas from a system I worked in that was very successful for a school I assisted it.

A lot of coaches are interested in Chip Kelly's practice format and tempo. Rightfully so. I'd be interested to discuss anything different/interesting Alabama does? What do they stress? What's it look like?
Maybe they don't do anything special or different. Maybe it's how they do it, the attention to detail that makes them special right now.

What about identifying your base skills and comparing notes with colleges who run similar schemes to improve drill work and organization? Great suggestion. We do that. This has been a great thread (in my opinion anyway). If you have ideas keep posting them. Several ideas posted above have already been talked about by my staff since this thread started.

We had really good captains this year. We had five. We have the kids NOMINATE them and I choose them. I tell them we will have between one and five. The players have to answer the following questions and put their own name on the form. There is no secret ballot.
1. Who has worked the hardest since last season ended? 2. Who has worked the hardest in practice? 3. Who do you look to on the field in a tough situation? 4. Who best represents our program in the classroom and community.
Then we tally up the nominations and talk about it as coaches.
The players can nominate any varsity player. This year we had three seniors and two juniors. The juniors are not automatically captains again next year, though in all honesty they probably will be.

Guys what are some suggestions for taking the next step, especially in improving team on field discipline. We went 9-2, not by accident, we did pretty well in a lot of areas including being self disciplined. But I feel there is room for improvement. So what are some ways you go from being a B+ to and A when the margin for improvement is not as great? It was easy to see the things we needed to do five years ago. But now in some areas it's nitpicking stuff but that's the difference in us playing one more week, versus going home.

I agree with that calkayne. I think it is over looked and swept under the rug. But in the NFL they only have 10 full contact days right? I thought I read that somewhere. I'm just saying: Year Number of Suicide Deaths Population 1993 31,102 259,918,595 12.0 1994 31,142 263,125,826 11.8 1995 31,284 266,278,403 11.8 1996 30,903 269,394,291 11.5 1997 30,535 272,646,932 11.2 1998 30,575 275,854,116 11.1 1999 29,199 279,040,181 10.5 2000 29,350 281,421,906 10.4 2001 30,622 285,081,556 10.7 2002 31,655 287,803,914 11.0 2003 31,484 290,326,418 10.8 2004 32,439 293,045,739 11.1 2005 32,637 295,753,151 11.0 2006 33,300 298,593,212 11.2 2007 34,598 301,579,895 11.5 2008 36,035 304,374,846 11.8 2009 36,909 307,006,550 12.0 2010 38,364 308,745,538 12.4 This is what makes me angry about the media - Junior Seau, because of brain trama, because he was who he was ...he's 1 out of 38,000 = .000026316 = .0026% This is not cause for alarm. Exactly.

Indian1 hit it...I love the grind. The grind isn't a grind for me. Some guys love Fridays. I love waking up Saturday morning even though we won the night before and getting to work on "next." I love winning. Winning doesn't suck. Losing sucks.
