We are looking to signal in our plays from the sideline instead of running them in with a player. Any simple systems out there that worked for you?

Why don't you use wristbands to run plays? It is very simple to use and no signals to learn.

I tell you what, when I was coaching at a small college, we used a great system to signal in plays. We had all of the QB's signal as well as the WR coach. Anyone of them could be the real thing and we could switch it at any time.
As far as plays go everyone has to use their imagination.
Numbers, we used our fist making numbers like a dice on the chest. 1- 1 fist in middle of chest. 2-Right fist on right pec close to the arm pit. Left fist on abs close to the left hip. Hope you get the point. It took our kids about four days to pick this up. Just think dice.
Formations - we used just Rt. arm for right strength formations and the we used both arms mirroring each-other for Left side strength formations.
Hope this helps!

Do you signal in the wrist band number, or just yell it out? What do you do to ensure people don't steal your signals?

WE CALL A COLOR ON A WRISTBAND OF 4 COLUMNS LIKE BLACK 2 AND THEN ADD ANOTHER NUMBER LIKE 5 TO IT. WE CAN GO WITH THE FIRST NUMBER CALLED OR THE SECOND. FOR EXAMPLE BLACK 23 WE RUN BLACK TWO OFF WRISTBAND IF WE ARE ON SECOND NUMBER AND CALL BLACK 23 WE RUN BLACK 3. AND AFTER YOU DO THIS FOR A WHILE YOU CAN HAVE TWO SISTER PLAYS IN EACH COLUMN AND USE THE FIRST NUMBER FOR THE PLAY AND A ODD NUMBER SECOND TO GO TO THE LEFT AND A EVEN NUMBER TO THE RIGHT. THIS CONCEPT DOUBLES YOUR AVAILABLE PLAYS ON THE WRISTBAND TO 80 INSTEAD OF 40. THIS IS A GREAT CONCEPTS AND IF THE QB HAS TO AUBIBLE HE JUST CHANGES THE PLAY WITH ANOTHER COLOR AND SET OF NUMBERS. WE SIGNAL IN FORMATIONS WITH HAND SIGNALS AND COLORS AND PLAYS BY HAND SIGNALS ALSO.

That's not a bad idea Coachmpope. We have wrist coaches we just didn't know how we wanted to signal in the play. But I like that color idea. If anybody else has something I would appreciate the advice.
We will probably signal in the formation.

Highball,
I follow you on signalling one and two, but unless you have some extra appendages, I am not visualizing how to do 3 through 6. Please explain how you guys did this.

To add to the colors and numbers ideas...
The college I played at we had hand signals for each of the four different columns and a number attached which gave a certain play in each column. The NASCAR column was both hands on the steering wheel, the DRAGSTER column was a foot dragging on the ground, the BUSCH column was drinking from a can and the INDY column was one hand on the steering wheel.
To simplify it even more we attached certain plays to each column such as NASCAR = run between the tackles INDY = run outside the tackles BUSCH = Dropback pass/Sprint out DRAGSTER = screens/draws/special plays... Makes it simple for the skill players and lineman.
Not to mention that the wristbands are great for no huddle and 2-minute offense.

You need to email Scott Burton at Richmond University. I have seen him at 2 clinics and he is awesome. We are totally adapting his system to our scheme. I have all his stuff but he uses a pod sytems so there is a formation pod, motion pod, and play pod so they sky is the limit. It all fits on a one window wristband and is easy to read. I would be happy to share it with you and so woudl he. TImothy_Cullen@hcpss.org

Wrist coaches are what we use, you can have your kids buy em, or make em they're the best way I can think of...We use a color and number scheme, we also have 4-5 coaches signaling in different things every play, we alternate the "Live" coach, JIK they are copying our signals
