Guys, I'm looking for a little help. Going into last season we had made 2 straight trips to the 2nd round of the playoffs losing both. We adopted T.O.T.A.L. Taking Our Team to Another Level as our Team Motto. Our kids really rallied around it and we ended up going 12-1 losing in the Semifinals. Now they we have gotten our team to another level, our next goal is obviously to win the state championship. However, I don't want our kids to think state championship or bust because I think that will put too much pressure on them. What I'm looking for is a motto for this season that will focus our team to push even harder in everything we do (offseason, practice, games, etc.) to hopefully get to the state championship. Thanks for your help!

Good teams play to win. GREAT teams play to DOMINATE.
Dominate the Day!

I really like the idea of having a theme to rally around.
That said, do any of you wait until camp to see what kind of team you have to determine your theme/motto as opposed to having it predefined like the examples above?

I like going into the season with a motto/saying so the kids know our (coaches) expectations.

I would use CHAMPIONS as a motto. I know it's not really what you were looking for but here's my explanation. "State Champions" is a singular goal at the end of the season. "CHAMPIONS" is a behavior, a standard of performance and effort.
Make sure that you explain that you can't wait till you win a championship to act like a champion. You must prepare each day, each practice, each rep, like a champion. Focus on having championship practices, championship work ethic, championship attitudes, and championship effort. Adequately describe what you believe that looks like and then at any point of a practice that you don't feel is living up to that, stop practice ask them if they feel that they are giving championship effort and refocus. After a little while you shouldn't have to stop practice if things are not up to expectations just ask the question and they will respond with better effort & intensity.

i think our kids are going with either "Striving Towards Mediocrity" or "Hard Work is For Champions - We're Just Not Into That"...
Can you tell I'm getting a little frustrated with the off-season effort?

Can you tell I'm getting a little frustrated with the off-season effort? " Are we there yet?" I think was my school kid's motto. Wanted to win... didn't quite have the same appetite for going to the weight room

Your work ethic and charter can never be stolen; you can only give it away.
