How about Bill Murray in Stripes -- "We're 10 and 1"---
or better yet - Belushi in Animal House -- "Did we quit when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?"

I've dpne it both ways - both as a coordinator and a head coach. Probably called a better game in the box - but I really missed the game time coaching and have returned to the sidelines.

Used to buck sweep/fb trap/waggle series - does that count or is it too many plays?

Agree with most of what has already been said. When a practice "sucks" its usually because of something I did. If the kids are having a bad practice end it with some drill or some thing you know they will do well. Try to get them, and your coaches, and you in a positive frame of mind before you leave the field.

Pretzel -- let me know if your HC decides he wants an experienced winged-t man!?!?!?
I understand your concerns but also would view it as a chance for you to continue to learn the game. The winged-t, especially with the shotgun addition can be as wide open as any offense.
Personally, I wouldn't offer to give up the OC - you may never get it back - I don't know if you wish to continue as a coach or have aspirations of being a head coach but I would stick with it.

Coach BW interesting idea -
We start the year out with stickers for honor roll and perfect attendance at summer weights.

I have never really liked giving stickers for the same reasons as already mentioned. One thing we have done in the past couple of seasons is given out stickers with the mascots of the opposing teams when we won. example - we beat the Cardinals and everyone gets a red cardinal, beat the panthers - everyone got a black paw print. I thought that was kind of neat thing to do but it meant spending a bunch $$$ on stickers to get stickers for everyone on your schedule. Course we could have saved money by never buying purple bulldogs since they always kicked our ass!

With one week before two-a-days I would be much happier if I had a clue who would be starting for me at LG, RW, WR, LB and CB. Otherwise, all is bliss...

Now my boyz could really play - not really sure they should be called actors but they could play!!!! Old Old School -- Timmie Brown and Fred Williamson (Spearchucker Jones) from M*A*S*H -- Or the prison team from Necessary Roughness - Butkus, Jerry Rice, Walker, Dorsett, Roger Craig, Ben Davidson, Ed Too Tall Jones, Jim Kelly, Randy White, Earl Campbell and from the old Longest Yard - Nitschke, Sonny Sixkiller, JOe Kapp and Ernie Wheelwright...

% question is interesting - have done some self study and when we were best we ran our base four running plays 85% of our runs. When we added stuff and got too fancy we usually didn't do as well.

No one believes me but unless our snap is on first sound we let our backs and ends line up anywhere they want. Then they shift to whatever formation we our going to use. We don't tell them where to line up they can line up anywhere as long as they can shift back to the called formation on time. They really enjoy doing it - even if we would not want our fullback as a slotback there will be many times in presnap that he will start there. If you were a defensive coach and saw another team show a no back you would probably spend time thinking of how to defend it. We also do this after a score. the linemen and ends have to line up on the three yard line but they can line up anywhere on the line. big splits, swinging gate splits, unbalanced whereever. the wingbacks, holder and kicker can also lineup where ever they want. we have a call to the snapper if someone is uncovered and scored several times this season on the direct snap to the uncovered. We usually shift back and kick but did score everytime our kids called for the direct. If you score four TDs in a game the scout and defensive coach will have four different PAT "gate" formations to prepare for.

Last week I got some great ideas of what to include in the assistant coaches notebook. Any ideas for the parent's notebook?

I enjoyed the thread IF you were up by four with three minutes left on the two -- what would you do --- Different slant -- still up by four but now your back up against the 2 yard line -- What would you do???
Punt or take the safety, I know there are a ton of variables - but lets hear some of your ideas...

Hey, thought I let you all know -- we won our homecoming last night - in a pretty big upset! Didn't sleep a wink but I don't feel like I've been beat up this morning!

As a defensive coach I have found that if I stand behind the offense I have a better view of what my d-line and LBers are doing. Coaching the safeties I stand right behind them and try to see what they are seeing. On the offensive side of the ball I am also behind the offensive huddle.
One thing we don't do enough is is having a coach on the sideline checking for alignments, offsides, etc.

Coach , for what's its worth - UW-Milwaukee used a small athletic noseguard when we played against them a number of years ago. The kid was a wrestling champ and they did a lot of zone blitzing with him.

that system would be illegal under our state rules. I am going to run into the same problem this year in that one our best running backs is not going to get his lifts in. Because of his physical ability he will still be the strongest, fastest back on the team. What do you do in that situation. Another question -- in this day of split families i have a couple of players who are spending the summer with their parent that lives out-of-state. How do youhandle that situation?

First off, where do you coaches live where you can get 25 workouts in before two-a-days start. Is that legal in your state or just something you do.
I understand the problem with the QB -- but if the baseball kid is a stud shouldn't he be allowed to still be the teams QB - SOme of the coaches talked about sending the message by starting the second best but what type of message is that? Awful lot of good athtletes that should be allowed to do more than one sport.

Interesting question -- trap, misdirection, don't let opponent be comfortable. Make defense cover the whole field. Defense - no big plays, stop the runs, gang tackling

pet peeve of mine too! I address this (oops, meant "we address") this in our staff pre-season meeing. Worse yet is the guy who is me-I when winning - but its the kids fault after a loss -- can't have it both ways can you?

We normally play a man defense - this offense gives me a head ache. I do have a question for Coach Bryan - is this the only offense youuse or do you also run more convential sets as well - why or why not.
