OK, I needed to put this on as our staff is having a friendly bet on this - But it does involve michelob so its pretty important.
On your team statistics ---
Some on the staff think that if you score an offensive TD your team gets a first down. You obviously got a first down if you scored --- for instance if inside the ten its called first and goal.
Others on the staff think that you do not get a first down on a touchdown.
OK, so whats the answer?

Like many on here -- I think D-3 woud be fun way to close out my career - I've been a high school coach for 30 years and I think it would be fun to football fulltime for awhile -- any openings!!

Not least favorite, but driest may have been Tom Osborne. Spent an hour going over an iso play ---- maybe that's why they were so successful?

We try limit practice to two hours after warmups. I think you get limited focus if you go longer than that -- that being said - i've worked with and known successful coaches that spent more time on the field than that.
I remember hearing Eddie Robinson being told by a couple of new assistants that his three hour practices were too long. That at other schools they were two hours or less. At the time, Robinson was the winningest coach in the country - he politely explained to the new assistants that the rest of the country ought to be copying him - not vice versa...

1. don't check 2. no 3. Love to able to platoon - but not applicable 4. Janitor! 5. Go home -- a co-op - half the team isnt there afterschool anyway 6. 1 day - as head coach I pretty much spend all weekend 7. script usually 8. Staff 9. Always 10. we don't give grades but do evaluate all of our players 11. Most of the team lifts M-W-F in weightlifting class -- those that don't we try to get in time twice during the game week 12. state says no mandatory -- we try to get them there a certain number and reward those that do. 13. rotate 14. I wear pants all the time -- some of the assistants wear shorts 15. small team - everyone practices together 16. yes they get some time off(unless they are already in a weightlifting class) 17. 2 a days at school -- program is not yet ready to go to team camps 18. Actively recruit the hallways at both co-op schools 19. No cuts 20. Kickoffs eventually but pretty much the kids quit on their own when they see their playing time affected for their rules violations.

Interesting discussion - we probably have hundreds of possibilities for formations but we think we keep it pretty simple for the kids -- right/left, or r/l for ends, colors for backs -- with all the different combos we can have a myriad of formations.

somethings you have to prepare for a coach of the PRETZELS. Some sportswriter will always write in the season preview that you are going to be pretty salty. Also if you're a homecoming opponent expect "Eat em Up!" Had one team named the Rockets that had a rocket going throug a pretzel. Borderline pornography! Mascot was a Twisted Pretzel - it was hilarious when the mascot did cartwheels - nothing like a rolling pretzel to get the team up!

I have way too much time -- Washburn's mascot is named after Ichabod Washburn - an early donor to the college.

I've coached in Missouri and Illinois and was the Head Pretzel at New Berlin. Some other poster mentioned the Fisher Bunnies - don't know if it is still true but at one time they had permission to use the Playboy bunny as their helmet decal.
I graduated from college as a Western Illinois Leatherneck and from high school as a Bomber. Got my masters as a Mule (Central Missouri State - and their girls team are the Jennies!).
In track, have gone against the Zizzers from West PLains, the Roosters and Chicks from Pleasant Hill, the Columbia Kewpies and maybe the weirdest was the Maryville Spoofhounds.
Oh yeah, and "yes" the Pekin, Illinois team WAS the Chinks at one time. The smiling chinese mascot just wouldn't cut it these days!

Don't use lime - use paint. and you better get permission before using diesel! After we lined our field we put grass killer on the sidelines for the five yard marks. Hopefully, it will be easier to find the marks the next time.
