What are some movies that would be good to show to a team? I'm not asking for your favorite movie but one that would teach your team something. It might not even be a sports movie. "Remember the Titans" goes without saying. One that I like is "Miracle" because it shows how a teamwork and hard work can pay off.

Shackleton's Antarctic Adventure- DVD. I read in a book that Belichick showed it to his team, so I had to get it. Not that long and its an IMAX movie so its got GREAT visuals.

"Patton"? Hmm, how can I show it? VHS, DVD, or the vinyl soundtrack album? I love opening battle scene in "Gladiator" because I can point out how the Germans talk smack and fight as individuals for personal glory. The Romans keep their mouths shut, fight as a team, and slaughter the Germans.

Braveheart. The pre battle scene where William Wallace addresses the men before the battle with the Brits. About how you can run and live (for now) but you'll always look back and think about how you could have stood your ground.
The fight sequence in Rocky, and Rocky II. The training sequence in Rocky II set to the song "Go the Distance".

"Braveheart" is a great movie. You might not want to show them what happens to William Wallace, though.

I got "The Last Game" and showed it to the kids. It is about CB West and their coaches final season. I showed only the last two games and our kids were cheering at the end and very pumped to go out. "Rudy" is good, although, you have to watch out for the sappiness. Also I think the movie is "Go Tigers," I'm not sure, but it is about a school in Ohio that is basically playing for its schools existence. Very cool, especially if you have something like that going on at your school.

Even though it's about basketball, Hoosiers is a damn good one.

to break away from what is already written.....
The last exchange between Jamie Foxx and Al Pacino in Any Given Sunday sums up everything what football is really about (shown every year, now that i think about it)...
Also shown clips of the Last Samurai to illustrate how we want to use visualization techniques.

How about Bill Murray in Stripes -- "We're 10 and 1"---
or better yet - Belushi in Animal House -- "Did we quit when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?"

Here are a few I use with leadership development - Apollo 13 (Ed Harris is a true leader). Add in with that Radio - considering ourselves, our players and students as leaders within the greater community and their relationship with others. Go Tigers! - film based on Massilon Washington 1999 season. Black Hawk Down - It's about the man next to you! You have to pay attention when these two movies come out - Invinceable staring Mark Wahlberg and Football Gang ?? staring The Rock. Both look like winners.

I thought of another one. There are some good scenes in the Mel Gibson film "We Were Soldiers":
Leadership: The hangar scene where Col. Moore talks about the role of a leader. The training scene i which the young LT checks the private's feet. Illustrates the concept that leadership is aout service, not privelege.
Team/Family: The scene where Col. Moore talks about Sitting Bull. If you can deal with some language the scene closes with a classic Sam Elliot line that ends the lesson on a light note.
