I haven't been able to get the video on yet - but am looking forward to seeing it -- shifting would be OK as long as the someone doesn't shift back that is covered -- lets say the widest receivers on each side is off the line and so is the the QB and a fullback. The two widest receivers, the fullback, the QB and the two men on the line nearest the wide receivers would be eligible. If you shifted - those inside those eligibles could not move back after they have been set or it would be illegal.
I like the potential - lots of things you can do -- I don't know if I have 11 guys that can catch the ball though!

Do any of you use the the regular winged-t with the 2'/3' foot line splits and also use the no-split double wing? Have dabbled with it on paper and seems interesting.

Coach Moore - I know some school districts in our area that do not allow you practice if the heat index is too high. I agree that if possible you go outside but if you can't there are things you can get done inside. You can always condition inside - same types of conditioning drills as basketball -- running is running. When we practiced inside we had our skill people inside and we would do receiving drills, lots of fundamentals. Linemen were still able to do their birddog drills. We used the time to do team walk thrus. We also put in time to teach PAT and Punt team alignments as the gym was actually quieter than it would have been outside. Obviously you can't hit but you can get a lot of stuff done.
We may be in that situation today - supposed to be 107 heat index. with no signs of it getting any better during two-a-days.

I've been coaching high school ball for 28 years. I love it and would not trade it for college coaching. That being said, when I get enough years to retire from the public teaching system I plan on coaching at a NCAA division III school. Very little road recruiting - and will be fun to coach full-time...

One school I was at, our kids had to keep their helmets on. In one game in the past, a player was coldcocked by an opponent. The opponent swung his helmet and hit the kid in the face breaking his cheekbone. I had heard the police actually stopped the other teams bus and were considering taking the miscreant to jail before cooler heads prevailed. Kind of a big story around here because the opponents were in the playoffs. A court case to get the kid kicked out of the playoffs and the counter cases to get him back on the team...
well, i made a short story long -- but thats why we were told by school rule to keep our helmets on during the postgame handsahke.

Old football on a shoe string to simulate snap for defensive linemen - costs $0.15 - improved reaction time - priceless.

After starters introductions our team starts hopping around and our starting center sprains his ankle. Our QB is scrambling around the sideline trying to find the second team center to practice with... not surprisingly it was homecoming....

I'll be there all weekend -- and YES to thunder...
Have always thought the glazier clinics were very good -- in some college clinics it seems like you're being recruited - not so much at glazier...

I'm a life-long baseball fan so I go with what they do -- wear the same uniform as the players. I usually dress in full gear and found i can intimidate the opposing coach (and referees) during the coin toss. Opponents don't stray near our sideline when they see 5 old guys wearing football helmetrs. Also protects us when the boobirds start throwing things... I double as a swim coach in the winter and follow the same guidelines - nothing like a +300 pounder in a speedo to bring in the spectators.

the head coach picks them - if you have couple for each week you can involve quite a few people.

Wow, some great ideas -- I like the teachers wearing the kids jersey...
We have a program of honorary coaches of the week for our home games. The honorary coaches may be from the school staff (teachers, administrators, custodial, bus drivers, lunch ladies) or may be boosters, little league coaches or alumni. The honorary coaches try to ATTENd our thursday practice and then get to be on the sidelines and lockerroom for the game. They really enjoy it. We give them a honorary coaches shirt or cap...

The best we did this year was auction off the player's away jersey the week of homecoming. At the bonfire/pep rally we auction them off and the bidder's got to wear the jerseys to the different homecoming events. Small school with about 30 players and made over $900. I was worried we might not get the jerseys back but they all returned the next week. Very quick way to raise the $$ with very little work.

Interesting discussion. - been on both sides of it. I just took over a job and the former head coach is staying as a teacher. He would be a good position coach and I plan on letting him know I would like him as an assistant somewhere in the program in a couple of years. I don't think it would work his first year out.
On the flip I was a head coach that was "relieved" of the head coaching position but was rehired as an assistant. - went through one camp and I personally couldn't do it. In my case the players were too close to me and would come to me instead of the head coach when their were problems. Too many coaching/teaching differences so I resigned after the first camp. I talked to the head coach about it and he understood where I was coming from. So at least in my cas e it was a a bad fit.

we beat a conference team that the school hadn't beat in twenty years - it was a GREAT TEAM BUILDER that has carried over into the offseason.

worked as an assistant the past six years and we NEVER ran situations. We won when we had a lot better players and lost when we were the just a little better, the same or worse.

Like many of the other posts I have a hard time watching it on tv. But I did go to real game in Des Moines and I thought it was great. Like another post said they go out of their way to include the fan. Before the game some of the team was outside in the parking lot signing autographs. After the game the players hang around the field talking with the fans. Every timeout there's something going on - like minor league baseball they really go out of their way to include the fans.
Our town (20,000 people) has had a minor minor minor league arena team and it is fun to watch live also.

Wow, some interesting ideas expressed. I think the coach had every right to not allow his girls to play in the game. As others have said, maybe they could have done something else at the function - referee, cheerlead, sell tickets, work concessions, etc. I'm trying to think of how a similar situation could be used for the football analogy. Lets say there was a wrestling tournament or a weightlifting max out competition, or a marathon run, or a "skate or die" exhibition during football season - would you want your football athletes to be involved?

DO you ever get to the point where you think you are over analysizing your systems?
Last year we were relatively successful on offense but were not very good on defense. Looking for a change up scheme wise.
OK, now this may come off wrong, but I've been coaching 30 years and I am to a point where it you draw up a defense I can beat it. MAybe not on the field but on paper! (last man with the chalk wins).
Well, because of this, no matter what we draw up on the board as a possible defense, I shoot it down. I have the case of the "what ifs" too much.
Just wondered if other veteran coaches on board experienced this
I think they call it "Paralysis by over analysis."

jcarbon -- hmmm if he wants to use the wishbone for the adult team and you're not helping him -- wow... i guess the first thing to do is not be on the same staffs - if you're not willing to help with the adult team's offense you two shouldn't be coaching together.
