There is an old saying: "What you tolerate, you encourage!" If you tolerate a half baked effort in practice, that's probably what you are going to get on game day. If you want your guys to play faster during games, they must be required to play fast in practice. I believe that sports psychologists refer to this as "Deliberate Practice"...don't just practice for the sake of practice...practice the way that you expect them to play on game day. On the coachhuey.com/thread/90561/slot-peanut-play thread, ccscoach posted a YouTube video "Practice Planning in the Slot-T"...the coach that presents on that video emphasizes that their kids are required to run all of their plays at "Game Speed" during practice...this is an example of "Deliberate Practice".

An interesting question...
Most DIII Colleges are Private Schools, and are not governed by State Legislatures.
However, Wisconsin has a number of DIII Colleges within their Collegiate/University System.
A simple call or email to the School that you are interested in will answer your question accurately.

We are wing t and no one (literally) can run plays faster than us. We only do it occasionally, but we can run the entire offense on the ball and snap it as fast as humanly possible. It is not hard. Just yell the dang play in and run the play. Everyone of our plays have code words. We also can be the slowest team in the America also. Don’t believe me? We just won our semifinal game against the number 1 team in the state who had the best defense I have ever seen on any level. They have 8 d1 players on defense. 4 are power 5 dudes. Their first d had given up 13 points all season and 33 points overall. Every team has been held under 100 yards all season. They beat us 42-0 in the regular season. We had one first down in that game. But Friday, we had a heck of a drive. We put together a 99 yard 2 foot and 11 inch drive for a TD. It took 21 plays and 10 and 1/2 minutes. At the end of the game, we got the ball on the 20 and drove it to the other 20 (60yards) in 2 minutes going on the ball to kick a game winning 37 yard FG as time expired. Won 10-7. Congrats on that GREAT WIN!! I am very curious...After suffering that beat-down during the regular season, how did you get your kids to believe that they could beat that team in the Play-offs?

First questions have you heard of them (SMAC, HJCAC)? Second questions what do you think about them for players? Third questions what do you think about coaching for a team in the league? Non-Profit?? Do you mean Non-Scholarship JC Leagues?

This thread appears to mirror the prevailing attitude that currently exists throughout our country regarding how to defeat the covid-19 virus that is taking so many lives.
Teamwork wins...right?

We better get this covid pandemic figured out PDQ...or we are all going to be in a world of hurt!!
In-person education is critical for all of our students intellectual and social growth. The value of all extra-curricular activities in the overall scope things is very real...for many, many reasons.
Our schools need all of the well-ran extra-curricular activities that they can get. Most importantly...activities bring kids to school!! Successful activities also attract the support of families and community businesses.
As mentioned above, ADA (Average Daily Attendance) is often a factor in State funding formulas and most schools also require major fund raising projects in order to balance budgets, etc. Successful Activities Programs promote the support that many of us rely upon.

Several schools are looking at the covid data and beginning to weigh their options to return. Not just assume a position. Many are figuring out that if they don’t go back now, they might never go back. Because they will not survive without sports. Their attendance will be awful and they will not receive enough funding from the state to survive. Along with the fact that a good chunk of teachers will leave the profession without sports, and they know there is already a shortage of people to hire. Schools are starting to think about the financial and long term impact of closing down and weighing the risks. They’re considering more than ‘what’s best for the kids right now’ This observation presents some interesting, and realistic facts...certainly worth considering. Prior to this covid crisis...this would probably have been considered biased thinking. Now...not so much so.

Anyone out there have access to a study, or standardized chart that illustrates the statistical percentage of Drives that conclude with a score (or not) based upon where each drive begins on the field.

An old book that is not written specific to your request regarding Situational Football, but it may add to your enlightenment on this topic is: "Football Scouting Methods" by Steve Belichick...(Bill Belichick's father).

Developing a perennially successful football program goes way beyond the "style/brand" of offense that you implement.
Everything that you do on offense, defense, and special teams should be easily adaptable to fit your available talent. It behooves you, as a coach to be able to accurately evaluate what your kids can, or cannot, do athletically. Then adjust your schemes enough to build on their strengths, and circumvent their weaknesses.
Just because you see something at a clinic or on TV that is appealing to you as a coach, it doesn't necessarily mean that it is a proper fit for your kids. Be realistic, if there is something new that fits...use it, if not keep it on file. It might be of use at a later time.
Just be an excellent coach...teach your kids how to become successful.
When your teams are successful, you will attract people to join your program.

Hey all I have been working with my college team as an assistant coach/GA but I’m a quiet guy and I’m having a hard time communicating with players. Am I doomed or is it something I can work on? Just because you have been given the title of "Coach"...it doesn't automatically prove that you are one. Knowledge is power...know your business. In coaching, if you can help people better their skills, etc., you will develop trust. Isn't this is how you become successful in any endeavor though?

How many do you need to dress to feel comfortable fielding a team? Two major factors that should be considered as you attempt to solve this equation... (1) what style of offense and defense fits your kids, and (2) what can you efficiently teach.

I have been a HFC at both large high schools & small high schools, at Juco's and at the NCAA D-II level. I think that when you are recruiting at whatever level...you must have a plan, recruit with a purpose.

choprip it doesn't seem like your basic expectations are out of line...structure and discipline are a must. Know your current situation and thoroughly think through all of the rules that you plan to implement. Once you establish yourself and earn their trust...you can usually implement nearly any rule that is within reason. Just do not paint yourself into a corner. If you make a rule you have to enforce it. Be cautious.

Theoretically 2-platooning is the ideal way to go in program organization.
If you are in a small school situation and you are considering going to a 2-platoon system, I would suggest that you begin by answering this question..."Do we have enough quality coaches to pull this off?"

Coaches, I'm always concerned that our kids just get tired of the grind of the season and lose their sharpness because they are "getting tired of playing". What do you guys do to stave off the mental effects of a long season? We are a winning program that has the potential to play several rounds into the playoffs. Losing is not an issue this season. Thanks in advance for your ideas. From an outsiders perspective, it appears as though the parameters of Texas High School Football is so much different than most other states that the suggestions offered in most of the previous posts, although good, are somewhat irrelevant. The fact that you are posing this question is a positive reflection on the quality of your football program and is indicative of why you project your team's ability to make a deep play-off run. You guys obviously have a terrific program. Details, details, details...Coaching success is about more than just X's & O's. This is an outstanding post...it will be interesting to read everyone's suggestions, especially those from some of your Texas football coaching colleagues. I have always been a fan of Coach John Gagliardi and the success that he had at Saint John's Univ. in MN. His book "No-How Coaching" presents some interesting ideas regarding deviating from the norm in football coaching principles.
