The guys I see doing it are looking for something "new" and looking for a magic bullet. 90% of them don't stick with it more than one season.

jml My WR coach is looking for roommates for AFCA this year. You going? Need a roomie or bringing the old-lady this time? I'm going and I need a roomie. Give him my number, but I'll plan for that.

Count me in... we can talk about what you would like me to present on... Things loosing programs have in common, using sports science, etc.

The recently fired Tulsa coach who also coached the Steelers o line in the super bowl vs Green Bay has an excellent power point on this. He is open to share. He prepares written questions for each player by position and distributes them prior to the film session then quizzes them the day of the walk through. I was struck by the visuals in the powerpoint and the pre-snap tendencies illustrated. Can you provide more information on how to contact him and what to ask for?

When kids asked me "What are we doing today?" before class started, my reply was "This, that, and the other thing." I would always say Torture, pain, suffering, the usual. Most of them learned to stop asking.

I just searched iTunes today and if you search USA Football Coach and Coordinator it comes up. It finally came up for me today too... they are not numbers in the new format so I have to go back and look up the number from the old ones, but great stuff.

I am looking for a roommate at AFCA. I will get there Saturday and I'm staying until Wednesday. I have a room with two beds at the Opryland hotel. I was suppose to be going with a guy I coach with, but he told me tonight he was not going to go due to uncertainty with which assistant coaches are going to be hired back next year. If anyone is interested send me a DM.

Has anyone went to the single wing conclave? I've been going down that rabbit hole and it seems like it would be interesting. One of the best clinics if you want to learn something specific. Most generous and sharing coaches that I have ever meet. They will literally give you everything they have.

Going to Glazier in Nashville. Also hope to get back up to the Hybrid Wing-T Clinic if they have it again this year. Are you talking about Coach Wright's or something else? I think I'm going to go to LeCharles Bentley's clinic in Cleveland. I'm thinking about COOL this year. I've always wanted to go to COOL, but people that I know that have gone say to just get the DVDs. Curious about the LeBentley clinic, I love his web site and post on twitter.

Detroit Glazier and University of Michigan clinic assuming Harbaugh keeps that thing going. It was great last year. I went to the AFCA, UM, and ND clinic last year and the UM clinic was the worst. Probably going to drop that one... a great line up but they didn't share much.

College football is rife with upsets, Iowa pulled a nice one just yesterday You can go all the way back (in the HISTORY of the game) & SEE what caused certain offense the MOST PROBLEMS. Bill Belichick is GREAT example of a Coach that does that (he LOVES to "drop names" of the great coaches in football history)! This is like the Professors of Military History at West Point studying TACTICS ("dropping the names") of Alexander the Great, Julius Ceasar, Napoleon, Stonewall Jackson, R.E. Lee, George Patton, Norman Schwartzkopf) ETC. DEPENDING on what offense you are facing, it HELPS to know (these are but a FEW examples Football "Historians", even those who were not ALIVE at the time, will recall): 1. What Bob Neyland did to stop the SINGLE WING 2. What Bud Wilkinson did to stop his own SPLIT-T 3. What teams (& Darrell Royal) did to stop the HOUSTON VEER 4 What Ara Parseghian did to make the WISHBONE obsolete. 5. What Bob Davies, & Dennis Eruickson's D-Staff did to the RUN & SHOOT. 6. What teams are doing TODAY vs. the Oregon (Chip Kelly) SPREAD that is causing it so many problems. 7. ETC., ETC., ETC. NOTE: All of these deal with TACTICS used against teams roughly equal in talent (& do not include all-important "BEING OUT-PERSONNELED" consideration). A BOOK could be written on the topic, and I would hope Bill Belichick (or Nick Saban) writes it! For those of use who were not alive long enough to recall these or are unaware of these are you going to post the answers?

Make sure the school has a dedicated football PE class. Don't accept a job without one.
Those are illegal in our state.
They are suppose to be... but schools like St Joseph and other have then. I even read about them in the news papers including the Detroit Free Press. I think according to the MHSAA they have to cover at least 3 sports, and I also think it is something they have no power to enforce seeing as they don't have any say over curriculum. In Alabama all of the larges schools have them, but the quality varies from school to school, coach to coach and administration to administration.

We have a period each week that we call "football 101" that we use to teach stuff to the team. Its more obscure than "how many points for a field goal", usually stuff like the rules relating to partially blocked kicks that either do or don't cross the LOS, muffed fair catches, when the ball is or isn't live in the kicking game, etc. It's not all special teams situations we also practice 2 minute drill, go through some special game situations, stuff like that. But the goal is to avoid having a guy make a WTF play because he didn't know the rules. Coach, What all do you cover in this. I have thought of doing this for years, but don't know where to start or what to cover. JML

Quarterfinal game we won 7-6. We only scored on a pick 6. Last play of the game was a hail mary and they caught it, they went for 2 and we stopped them. Semifinal game we won 76-70 in 5 OT's. Amazing how one week both offenses couldn't do anything, yet the next the defenses were both irrelevant. Then we blew out the team for the state championship. It was a wild 3 weeks. Where do you coach? I thought you were in MI, but can't find any 5OT play off games that ended 76-70.....

Hi Coaches So I am planning a two week trip to the states from 30th of July to 13th of August. This is my holiday as I have a full time job here in the UK but it will actually be all for football and to develop as a coach. I have coached for 7 seasons now as an OC in spread. Now moving to pistol. I may be around Florida but was wondering if anyone would have me at their programs for a day or more just to observe and chew your ear. Any thoughts, suggestions or offers would be awesome. Thanks Not sure about FL, but in Alabama we start fall practice the 1st of August so you could get over and see practice here. Also depends what part of FL you are in... but we are boarder states.

After seeing Marty Mornhinweg and Teryl Austin how did Mornhinweg ever become a head coach and how come Austin isn't one yet? I got things from both of them, but Austin was way better.

I think it depends on your team and your regional schedule. If you are the best team in your region, then schedule up with one game you should loose and the rest 50/50 games. If you are the worst team in your region go looking for the easiest games that you can find. If you are in the middle of the pack I'd try to find an easy game, a 50/50 game and a slight schedule up game which would be like a 60/40 in favor of the other team.
