I have searched for a thread that had something about comparing different shoulder pads and helmets. If there is one please direct me to it and I will delete this one.
I recently asked my friend who is a college head coach what helmets he likes. He said he will only purchase Riddell. I have been sold on the Xenith's. I see a ton of NCAA D1 and NFL guys in the new Schutts. The NFL concussion test has Xenith as the top rated for concussion prevention. The top end helmets all cost about the same with maybe the Riddells a bit more than the Schutts and Xeniths.
So just curious about how other people feel.

The speed flex has been the best thing we've ever used
Now I've never used a Xenith so it's unfair to compare, but of the various Riddell, Rawlings, and Schutt helmets we've used The speed flex has been the best

I've used everything but the flex (looking at getting some this year) revo speed has been the best thus far.

We have a variety of newer Schutts, Speeds, and Flex helmets. We just got a bunch of Xenith helmets in. Our kids who tried them on really liked them.

I personally like to get a variety because I feel like they fit kids heads differently and I want the best fit possible.

I like the Flex, but I really don't like having to replace the zip-tie chinstrap. They hold up really well, but when they break it's not a quick fix on the sideline.
Well, it's not for me. But, I'm also really bad with fixing things.
We are looking at getting a few Xenith helmets this year, but it's simply based on the reviews. None of us have used any, no one on the team has used one. So, it could be a waste.

Well this last year I had my whole junior high team in the Xenith Youth and I didn't have one concussion in my 7th and 8th graders. I had 4 at the high school level and 3 of them were in Schutt Air Xp. The one that was in a Xenith took one right under the chin.

The only think I HATE about Xenith is the hardware is specific.. Chin straps are wider then Riddell thus making you purchase Xenith snaps. Chin cup seems to break often and isn't a quick fix.. Great helmet but a total brute if something breaks. We have about 300$ tied up in just Xenith hardware.

Revo speeds are great. I would mix in some schutts (the ones with silver lining- Vengeance or AirXP) because they all fit differently and each kid's head is different. Xeniths are a pain in the arse.

ah. Everyones saying speedflex. Can't afford that stuff. I guess the revolution is referring to the revospeeds because the original revos aren't cleared at all. Sorry for any confusion.

Sorry for any confusion. most of our varsity is revo speed we bought 4 speedflex last year for our guys who we felt needed the most protection those kids loved them i think we will continue to wear regular speed for 95% and let the top few guys wear a speedflex... they are too expensive for us to buy 40 or so of them

Some of our families got their players the SG helmet, incredible how light it is.

We use regular revos but about 5-10 kids buy the speed each year. I just like the inflatable cheek pads. Seems quicker and easier. Luckily for me my trainer has taken charge of helmets so one less thing for me.

we own mainly Riddell's a few Xenith's. Xenith is the BEST HELMET BY FAR! Customer service needs improving. But if I had to purchased 1 and I love Riddell's, Xenith is a better helmet. I have had starters turn in riddell for xenith's.

We like the Xenith but once something needs repaired it becomes more difficult than the others to repair. Our kids seem to like the Riddell more, but we order a few of each every year because every helmet does seem to fit kids head differently.

The Flex helmets are nice, but there are some things that become a pain, had issues with the little thumb screw falling out, or a snapped chinstrap means you better have a spare helmet because its going to take a while to get a new one on.
They need to iterate one more time on the Flex and I would say its the best helmet out there.
Had a few Shutt throughout the year, thought they were terrible.

We have one of our sporting goods suppliers at our annual player parent night. We have him bring in all the "Top" helmets from Riddell/Schutt/Xneith and allow the kids to try them on and if there parents want to purchase them (we pay for reconditioning ever year)They are able to do so. After there playing time is over if they would like to Donate the helmet to the program we gladly take them. It also take some of the burden off of our program. We simply tell the parents "several of you will go out and buy at $300-$500 baseball bat in hope it make your son have a batter batting average or go out and buy your son a $150 pair of basketball shoes because they are in the in thing. You will wear that same football helmet all four years." Every year we have about 15-20 parents that purchase Helmets. Out of those we will get to keep 8-10 of them. That is pretty much how we have ended up with Xenith helmets. Really helps recover our cost for those rejected helmets.

We already buy a ton of Riddell but will probably be moving to Schutt do to our new vendor deals.

ksmitty79 that is a great idea!!! I might do that with shoulder pads as well!!! But what happens when the kid grows after his freshmen year? That falls on the parents as they "Purchased" the helmet. Thus, the parents either buy another helmet or use one of ours. For us it has really been a pretty smooth with that issue. We do make parents aware that little Johnny's head might grow and if they do choose to purchase a helmet and their Jr year the helmet is too small we will not allow them to wear it as its a safety issue. You also have those parents that will get the newest helmet every year so their son will have the "Cool" helmet (SpeedFlex and Schutt Vengeance were the big ones this past year) I will say this the first year we did this we had tons of questions regarding the school issued helmets. So if you do, be prepared for parents to ask you questions about what is wrong with them. We started talking about the re-cert and the re-conditioning process first and those questions seems to get answered
