9 man football is pretty common in Europe and it's how we've played U19 game in the UK for the last few years (based in clubs rather than schools). We've found that pass pro can be tough with a true drop back passer as edge rusher is coming in hard from that much closer. That said, that is one of the few defensive advantages. We play on a full side field too and all your defensive players need to be good open field tacklers. Coverages tend to be C3, C1 and C0. Don't see a great deal of C2/4. When it comes to the kicking game, I would say that the main difference is you see teams using the pooch kick to minimise the chance of returns as there is a whole lot of open space to cover with two fewer players. Does anyone kick PAT or FG or do they just always go for 2? I've only seem people go for 2 in the little that I have watched. I've tried to find some film and I think I found 2 games on youtube. I'd like to watch a lot more just to get a better feel for the game. Pooch kick on KO also?

I was leaning toward going 3-3 on defense from a 4-4.
Biggest concern I have is the kicking game.
They are not going to reduce the field size here.

There is a chance some of the smaller schools in our area might have play 9 man. It would help some school keep a team and some field a team, but hurt some of the better school with more than enough kids. I'm in an area where we fly to some of our away games so the travel rosters would go from 22 to 18. I'm trying to get in front of this in case it happens.
As near as I can tell the only rule differences are 1) Anyone can wear any numbers 2) Still have 5 on the LOS or with the rule change Max of 4 off of the LOS on offense
Does anyone have any video or playbooks they would be willing to share?
I know there is a 6 & 8 man section on the board, but 9 man doesn't seem to get any mention here.

I would like to learn more about sky coach as an alternative to HUDL. it looks as if all that's missing from it is the breakdown data/ report creation/ Hudl Playbook (all of which can be done elsewhere). Does it store individual plays as clips or is it one large game file? I would as well. Right now I use google drive and sheet and do everything by hand. The problem is when something breaks I might spend a weekend fixing it. But unlimited storage from work, and video in as high of resolution as your camera will go.

so who is going be the first coach to go back to burning DVD's and meeting half way on a Saturday morning in a suspect parking lot somewhere to trade film? Why would you need to do this? Google Drive, Dropbox etc.

As I stated in a Twitter feed, I know of a few teams that get bare minimum Hudl and use Sky Coach for everything. They just use Hudl for film trade. A lot of bigger schools in this area are doing this. Let me more, how does this work?

I must have a different outlook than some. I check the Board daily, look for things that interest me, either comment or answer a question if I can. I never feel compelled to tell someone their question is stupid nor chastise those with an opinion different than mine. Although I find some of your responses entertaining! Anyway, I feel it is important to right down your Mission Statement, Core Values, etc. It will act as a guide, not just to you but your staff, players, parents, administrators, etc. Even God wrote down the Ten Commandments. I think it was valuable to do it for myself.... Made me think about what I really believe and hold myself accountable.

Any word on when the Alabama clinic is this year? April 4-6th. I was hoping for the following week so I could attend. They do a great job.

Why not use both worlds? You still need to get some tendencies for the draws, right? Victor Sure, and people would. That is why I asked "in which way". I actually used Excel to "create" my own editing system for a program that didn't have the $$ to get one. This was before the hudl software existed, when exchanges were VHS tape. Not as old as actual guys who had to cut up and splice reels of film, but not as young as the guys who have only used hudl..lol. My point was that you wouldn't do what is described in the article as "padding" with excel. It is a completely different process with different goals. I still do this, but I'm trying to move it to google sheets so it is easier to share with my coaches etc. Problem I could figure out visual basic in excel and I am still lost in javascript in sheets.

I do most of my stuff in excel.... trying to convert to google sheet to share with staff and others and the only issue is linking the video files. I figured out the visual basic a long time ago.... the javascript is over my head right now.

In Michigan we got nothing at any of the schools I was at, in Alabama we got $1000 for spring football and $1000 for summer football if you could document 100 hours in the summer. That was easy for all coaches.

Question to high school coaches that just went to the AFCA Convention...Do you feel that you got more from this convention then you would have at Glazier or Nike? Do you think you got more then you would by visiting a college? I know the opportunity to network is greater, but from a clinic perspective does it hold up to the others? Thinking about Nashville in 2020. I'm coaching overseas now and come back for AFCA because I think it is that good.

AFCA and any clinics that fall on my spring break. Hopefully Alabama or Notre Dame as I have been to both in the past and both do a great job.

No 2-a-days... first two weeks of practice we are 30 meetings, 30 min weight room and 2 hours on the field.

I don't have a set length, I do it based on a set criteria. Like score, TFL, offensive play > 10 yards, pin inside the 20 on KO, KOR past the 35, FG over 30 yards. Etc.... Depending on the year some have been long, some of been short.

I uploaded video from 6 seasons before we had hudl, but also had on DVD. The problem uploading was a few of the seasons were taped on the old mini dv tapes and then converted to DVD. While they loaded, they do not look very good and would take a ton of time to edit so it looks as clean as it does now. . What are you using to edit in and clean it up? I have a lot of old film and I'm thinking of doing this, but all pre HD film isn't that clear.

Seems like it would be do able. I don't know anyone that has done it, but there are a lot things that people didn't do until someone was the first. Who do you think will watch it?

Guys I'm a big fan of James Leath and I got an email today that is he is doing a book club. (https://coachbookclub.mykajabi.com/)
The cost is $60 a month and I just don't see the value in that. What do other people think? Are their coaches interested in doing something like this but where we just buy the books and there are no other cost?

I only included football-playing schools, but that is a good one.
I thought they might have an 8-man team.

How many of you are HC / OC / DC and how difficult do you think it is to do all three of those roles vs. HC / OC or HC / DC? I do it... it is do able, but hard... I'd glad delegate if some assistants step up...

Use to listen to Coach and Coordinator, but he should cut back and do quality over quantity. Agreed. I’d rather have Keith come out with one podcast every 1-2 weeks that is detailed and original than what he has now. I also wish he did less interviews sometimes, because I know he’s a smart guy and I’d love to hear some of his own thoughts that AREN’T just about culture, player safety, etc (which are all obviously important) They just seem all the same. I have a notebook of notes from the first ones.. now 95% I can just listen to and not take notes.
