How do you consolidate? Each coach makes his own notes - do they all have to share and then consolidate or are they able to make separate notes on separate copies - ie. Oline coach , dline Coach, etc - hope this makes sense Many years ago when Hudl was first made available, we'd share our game with the players immediately. We'd follow up with comments on the video and re-share it to the players and direct them to review our notes. What we eventually realized was that the majority of players would never go back to rewatch the game and study our notes. We learned we only get one shot for the player to watch our game, so we better make it count. For several years now, we'll have all our coaches enter their notes first thing on Sat. morning. Then we'll consolidate/streamline the notes (remove duplicate points, move notes to a single frame before the play starts, etc.) and all share it with the entire team simultaneously by about noon on Sat. We've found the players rarely miss our coaching point with this workflow. For opponents, we create a short video scouting report of their top runs and passes(2-3 clips each) along with personnel pages and a brief explanation of their offense. This is shared with the entire team around mid-day on Sunday. We rarely share entire scout games with the players. The position coaches make a handful of critical notes and only share it to the DC (me). I'll go through and consolidate them. We believe the 20-30 minutes of condensing the coaching points is worth it for player comprehension. It also makes out team review meeting go much smoother.

Are you using the SmartPointer? Yes. Never had any issues. Unfortunately, I think you'll have a tough time finding the Satachi Sp400 Smartpointer. They stopped making them awhile back.

Mav do you just use a wired connection to an HD TV or do you use a non-wired option? I'd like to use the arrows primarily but I don't have enough cord to reach my chair and still be able to watch on the tv. We just use a 20 ft HDMI cable so we can move the laptop around. The arrow keys are so simple and my brain is already wired to control rewind, slo-mo, restart, next play... from using it on my laptop. The Smartpointer has a very weak laser and is flaky with controlling the video. Drove us crazy. Plus they're not manufactured any longer and Hudl isn't making any other affordable remote compatible. The Hudl remote is very expensive and works ok. I've never been as proficient controlling the video with it as I am with the arrow keys.

Quick thought: We primarily use the arrow keys on the keyboard and a standard laser pointer more than we use our Hudl remote during team sessions.

Do a quick google search for their Hudl highlights. I'd bet they're shot from a proper angle.
Send the highlights link to the coach and tell him a fair trade is for this angle. He could be just testing you guys to see what they can get away with.
If not, he's probably done it to all his opponents, so they may be willing to let you have their copy.

I'd suggest talking to the folks at the NFHS Network. You can use your own cameras to broadcast live on their network. www.nfhsnetwork.com/sbp

We used to come in on Sat. mornings to review Friday's game, but the last 2 seasons we changed it to Mondays before practice. We like Monday reviews much better and won't go back.
We love being able to thoroughly review the game and make notes, then share it out over the weekend. We review the previous game in 30-40 minutes on Monday before switching to the upcoming opponent. We also share a video scouting report over the weekend. The kids seem to absorb the info much better when they've had a chance to privately review it beforehand.
Saturdays are now the day to decompress and get a light lift and stretch in for the varsity. JV plays their game on Sat.
We feel our entire team (coaches and players) have been able to keep a more consistent level of energy throughout the grind of the season with this schedule.

They're looking to make it much easier than the current process. We've already noticed that the game clips are now downloaded in HD (vs standard def). Hopefully they'll maintain our intercuts and possibly data too. Mav, is this downloading playlists by clips or also when you download them as one big file? Both the single large, intercut video file and the individual clips are downloaded in HD now. Until a day or 2 ago, the individual clips downloaded in SD for some reason. The challenge we'll still have is restoring a game that has multiple angles. Currently we'll have to manually intercut the clips. Then we'd have to upload the data = huge, time-consuming hassle.

So has anyone decided to go rogue and jump ship? We have an all league meeting Wednesday (32 teams) and I’m going to ask the same question. After talking with the folks at Hudl, I'd suggest to hold off making any decisions or archiving any games yet. They're looking to make it much easier than the current process. We've already noticed that the game clips are now downloaded in HD (vs standard def). Hopefully they'll maintain our intercuts and possibly data too.

Interesting tweet from SkyCoach about working on an alternative to Hudl. We're going to them for replay anyway... I think their phones might be busy Competition is always good for everyone involved.

It's actually a price increase AND change to storage allocation. Your own games aren't stored for free any longer. Here's the post on Hudl - www.hudl.com/pricing/2019-updatesThe truth is Hudl will still be keeping ALL our games online so they can sell their recruiting system to colleges. This is just a way to squeeze more and more $$$$ out of us.
Proof again that MONOPOLY'S ARE NEVER GOOD! This type of strong-arming usually results in alternatives emerging - let's all hope! I don't think this is evidence that monopolies are never good. Most of us still have alternatives in the way cd burners hiding out in the corner of our coaches offices somewhere, but we gladly let it collect dust and cobwebs because of the service provided by HUDL. I am not condoning HUDL's price increase, but I think the service they provide has made vast improvements to the coaching experience and to completely vilify them based on their ability to create highly demanded platform may not be fully warranted. I do agree that if the price increase is unfair it will open the door to competition, which will force HUDL to revisit policy change or lose customers. Storage of our own games has always been unlimited because Hudl re-sells our games to college recruiters (Hudl Recruit) and highlights to advertisers (MaxPreps, Gatorade, etc.). All our old games will remain on Hudl.com for recruiters and advertisers, yet they now want to also charge us high school coaches. My contention is Hudl would not do this if we had a reasonable alternative.

We rarely if ever have d1 talent, but do have some d2 every now and then and definitely d3 players every year but hardly any ever want to play. It's very annoying. Some think D3 is below them although if they ever tried they'd find out in a hurry d3 isn't a joke. Some have tried and quit cause they didn't think d3 was so time consuming and tough. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 I have the same issue with kids not understanding how good D3 football has become. Have them go down to a Salve game and stand near the players and watch a game. They quickly see how big, fast and talented you must be to play there. After seeing them live, I've had a couple of very good HS players actually get intimidated and question whether they could play at that level.

Huey's going to be working hard for quite awhile to get the look and feel to his liking again.

How many of you guys film practice? And do you have a way you watch that film with your kids? We don't meet as a group for our practice film review. We use our iPads w/Hudl and go over comments with our position players before practice or on the field at pre-practice. It's worked well for us for several years now - although I wish we had time to do film review during school hours.

Really? whatever works I guess...but that doesn't seem prudent What is there to practice? You tell your play runner- Blue Right (formation) Take a Knee. You snap the ball like normal and your QB kneels down. In our state, unless you're only up by a couple points, if you say you're taking a knee to run the clock, the officials usually tell your opponents to lay off. Why waste time with something that really isn't that freakin hard to figure out? We have always wrapped up our offensive session on Thursdays with the offense in the Victory formation and taking a knee. I think it's a great way to keep things positive and show our confidence. For us it's probably equal parts mental and physical preparation.

Here's what we'd do after a few weeks into the season. Earlier in the season we'd have more indy time and less team.(more ST time too)
10 mins - dynamic warmup
Def: 10 mins - tackling circuit 10 mins - Indy D 15 mins - Group D (Inside run and pass skel simultaneously w/1s and 2s. Switch half way through) 15 mins - Team D
ST: 2-3 per day 10 mins
Off: 10 mins - Indy O 20 mins - Group O (Inside run/half line and pass skel simultaneously w/1s and 2s. Switch half way through) 20 mins - Team O

3 years ago our AD was pushing our parents to chip in and help buy the new Xenith helmets. We bought about 20 for ~$275 each. The sales guy came in, made the sale and was never heard from again.
Most of our players hated them - too heavy and uncomfortable.
This past season the majority of the helmets still sitting on the shelf were Xeniths. That was a huge mistake for our program.

We did the Xenith thing a couple of years back. We bought about 30 of them.
Most kids really didn't them. They'are very heavy and uncomfortable.
The Schutt 4D and Ridell Speed are the most popular helmets with our kids.

I agree. $70 for a year's subscription to every NFL game from 09 to 11 is reasonable.
The coaches angle is very limited -- only a couple of clips per game. With the top $70 package, all 2012 games will include them.
No mobile apps yet either -- and you can't download the video.
They don't have any free trials or monthly plans going on right now, but you can sign up and cancel within 7 days. I'm giving it a try.
Thanks for the heads up aznando.

Coach, we watch film together as a team prior to practice on Mondays. We sit in groups by positions and each coach is responsible for making short comments to his players. We do the same thing. I believe that watching as a team is extremely important because it provides an atmosphere of accountability. Kids can kid themselves. If they're sitting at home watching the film by themselves with just a brief note saying about their play it's easy for them to pretend that it wasn't their fault. When you see the play a few times with the laser pointing at you, though, it's hard to say that you did it right. On the other side of it, when you see a good play you get recognized by all of your peers. That's strong stuff. I agree 100%. I've heard many coaches ask - "with a system like Hudl where all the players can watch film themselves, do you still have to watch together as team?" Absolutely YES! - IMHO. We consider Hudl as a great supplement to the team film sessions. We go over many of the same coaching points in the group meeting as we do with Hudl notes, but it's never a replacement. Additionally, we all know players who don't respond well to being called out in front of the team. Letting them review their mistakes privately is very powerful and effective for many players. BTW - I really like the simple idea of having the players sit in groups by position during the team reviews. Makes perfect sense - we're usually scanning around trying to find the player when we have a point to make to them. Not sure why this never occurred to me to do before. Thanks!

I'm getting a ray crowther 27'x6' ground battle chute-just seemed sturdier than the others I saw and had the largest sizes Interesting set up on the Crowther chute. The video is great. No sure I like how it swings back and forth when a player hits one end though. BTW - the Roger chute goes to 40ft. - that's an aircraft carrier!
