I didn't want to hijack the thread about coaching meeting and film time...so I would like to know from the group...
How much meeting and film time do you guys get with your varsity group during the week? And, is that film and meeting time during school (in a varsity athletics or athletic PE period) or is that film and meeting time extra (before school, during lunch, before practice or after practice)
One of the biggest challenges at my current school is that we do not have an established varsity athletics period or athletic PE period to meet and watch film or workout. We have to add this time in to our schedule either before school or after school or after practice. I'd like to hear some of the ways you guys get your meeting time and film time in...and how much do you do per week?

Saturday -Light run and stretch from 8-8:30 -Watch film from 8:30-10 -It is mandatory for our players to watch 30 minutes of film on their own per week. (We have HUDL so it is easy to monitor) Monday -Players come in at 7 and we go over the game plan for the week and watch a few clips. Usually finished around 7:40.
That is all the time we are able to get into our schedule as a group.

We watch film with players on Mondays, usually an hour and a half or so. They also have access to film on Hudl. In the days before Hudl, we burned DVDs for them to take home.

How many of you guys film practice? And do you have a way you watch that film with your kids? We don't meet as a group for our practice film review. We use our iPads w/Hudl and go over comments with our position players before practice or on the field at pre-practice. It's worked well for us for several years now - although I wish we had time to do film review during school hours.

How many of you guys film practice? And do you have a way you watch that film with your kids? We started filming alot of practice this year, and it was a great thing for us offensively. We don't have HUDL (although the AD said today it looks like its a go for next year ) We really didn't have an opportunity to the show film to the kids once the season got started. Two-a-days were a little easier but they didn't watch it a ton either. What I did in doubles was to take the tape home and take notes over issues. Before the kids came in in the morning I would write up the notes for the kids on the board so they could see it before they went out in the morning. Depending on what I saw on film I might grab a few of the skill kids and make sure I talked to them face to face about what I saw on tape. For my OL I would have a 5m "Fix Stuff" period to start our Indy where we just walked through things that were didn't do well the day before. During the season I would just make sure that I talked to the kids during their stretching time. Its not ideal, as I know seeing the film would be better, but I think you still get alot out of watching the film as a coach and being able to talk the kids afterwards.

I like the idea of bringing the I-pad out there for showing the film. Mav do you guys ever use the ipad during practice and then show it to them for immediate feedback? I've heard of people doing this but just don't know how the logistics of this work out. And I don't know if we have the support staff to pull this off.

It works better with an Iphone. You don't need to necessarily put it in hudl and all that, usually they just don't have a good understanding of what they're doing wrong, some even flat-out deny it. I had a QB swear before all that was holy that he wasn't separating his hinds just before the snap, he truly didn't think he was doing it. It's much easier to prove him wrong than try to force something through the notoriously thick skull of a teenage boy.

cclement...who does the actual filming of this? You the coach...a player...a manager? How exactly do you do this without wasting practice time or diverting your attention from coaching the next rep?
