tjackson,
A couple of quick thoughts that might help you out.
Sounds like you're marketing you're product to the wrong folks. From this thread, I believe you have an idea about helping players who may be in a similar position you were back in HS -- playing for coaches not willing to put in the extra effort to help their kids play at the next level. Is this correct? If so, a forum like this with coaches looking to discuss all aspects of football to make themselves better coaches is exactly the OPPOSITE of the coaches you may want to contact. I think your target market is 1) parents of high school football players who play for 'lazy' coaches 2) the 'lazy' coaches. Both pretty tough to get to.
Lastly - to sell an idea/product/service NEVER be abrupt and snippy. You're obviously a passionate, young guy with a idea, but to be successful you need to get others to agree with you by demonstrating how your idea can help them. Hopefully this thread can help you fully 'bake' your ideas.
Good luck.

I think that it is a great idea and makes sense. Hey lovetocoach, what would you do to save the district money for the extra electricity? Our bodies get used to our daily routines and perform at the same level of functioning until we change things. To save enough money to pay for all that electricity, I would stop the use of paper on the high school campus. In our district, it would save millions of dollars. You could issue laptop computers to every student in high school and it would be thousands of dollars cheaper than paper. Simply make all of your homework assignments web-based. They have to save their assignments on a drive in which you can reach them. No turning in papers. All tests are done on the computer...etc. It's already being done in a school in Arizona. I coached/taught classes at a college that was totally wireless and every kid had laptops. It was incredible how nice it was not having to mess with all that paper. If you absolutely had to have the paper, they could always print it out at their own house, or you could have print stations. I don't know about yall, but I spend at least 10 hours a week at the copy machine. I guarantee you, a wireless campus would save millions in the long run. Dell works great deals with schools. Heck, you could probably get a grant for it and get it free since it's cutting edge. It's a great idea. Honestly, the key statement is 'in the long run'. I've worked on software projects similar to this -- paperless office stuff. It takes years to roll out a project like this. You probably wouldn't get a 'return on investment' for several more years. The toughest group to get to agree to this will probably be the teachers Hope no one takes offense, but as a group, I've been blown away by how many teachers are afraid of computers (in my area anyway). Seems in the business world everyone's was forced to use computers many years ago. Good luck with it.

Do you have access to that study? I'd be interested in reading it.

Pet peeve on football discussion boards goes something like this: Initial message in a new thread: “WHAT IS THE BEST OFFENSE TO RUN” BY “newcoach” Coaches, I need some help. I have xyz type of offensive linemen and abc types of backs and receivers. My QB is average. What type of offense should I run?? You inevitably will get these types of replies… REPLY BY “airassultcoach” Coach, spread ‘em out 5-wide and throw the ball 55 times per game. You can’t possibly hope to win with xyz type of offensive linemen and abc types of backs and receivers if you run any other style of offense. Run 3, 5, and 7 step drops. Have at least 30 screen plays in your package. Running the ball is boring and for idiots. Join the 21st century and let’s go!! Hey, if you want information on what I do, email me at arrogantmoron@xyz.com and maybe we can trade or something. I’m always looking for 3-3-5 stuff! REPLY BY “oldschoolinsession” Coach, the only hope you have of surviving is running my combination double wing / straight-T offense. This will help hide all of the inadequacies you have on your OL and make up for your less talented backs and receivers. Besides, any other type of run offense is for sissies and cheaters. I run real man’s football!! So, swallow that chew and wash it down with some moonshine, because you can’t be a real man unless you run this stuff. Last year we averaged 3985734987 rusing yards per game because defenses don’t know how to stop my superior offense! I had 3 RB’s over 5000 yards. We outscored our opponents 8472501767647 to 2 over the last two seasons since we put this in!! Hey, if you want information on what I do, email me at everythingofftackle@abc.com and maybe we can trade or something. I’m always looking for 3-3-5 stuff! REPLY BY “delewaredeciple” Coach…please listen to me. You feel empty and helpless right now. I know how that can feel. You feel like your xyz type of offensive linemen and abc types of backs and receivers are making your existence empty and meaningless. We all feel that way at some point in our lives. I was this way a long time ago. Running a pro-I offense with a standard power / draw oriented running game and a west-coast style passing game caused me to think long and hard about “is this all there is to my existence?” Then I stumbled onto www.bucksweep.com and my life has changed so much. I am a devout member of the Wing-T community. Join us, my friend, and you can discuss OVER AND OVER again such topics as: “What is better, the Buck Sweep or the ROCKET Sweep!?!?!” “Slipping the FB out on your 128 Down Pass” “Running the Jet into the Boundary-Good or BAD?” and “Is the Jet REALLY different from the Fly?” These topics will give your life meaning again. Running this offense will make you a member of a larger and more meaningful community. Join us, my son. You will see the light. Hey, if you want information on what I do, email me at Iaminacult@123.com and maybe we can trade or something. I’m always looking for 3-3-5 stuff! REPLY BY “UrbanMyerRULZ” I’m telling you dawg…spread ‘em out and run that sweet option shotgun with your QB and your RB. Put a Mike Vick at QB and have your running game all go out of the sick shotgun! It’s totally whack! I’m getting all shizzled up just thinking about reading that backside end and deciding to give it to the back or have the QB keep it. It’s tha bomb! And, you can floss and fly that ball all over that mofo to your receivers too. It’s ILL dawg! Hey, if you want information on what I do, email me at Iaminacult@123.com and maybe we can trade or something. I’m always looking for 3-3-5 stuff! Anyway, that’s my pet peeve. I hope some of you found that amusing. I guess I just hate when people try to “sell a system” to someone else rather than ask the right kind of questions and really figure out what the poor guys needs are. LOL -- What a riot... great post (and scary how accurate it is). I understand we have to thoroughly believe in a system, then teach and SELL it to our players, but when discussing these packages with other coaches, why do some coaches continue the 'hard sell'? I don't think they see this, but it honestly makes them come across as looking a bit... ummm... limited. ;-) 'email me at Iaminacult@123.com' - LOL - I still can't stop chuckling.

Nice find. The Delaware Wing-T, An Order of Football is worth quite a bit. The last time I looked I believe it was over $100.

Thanks for the responses guys. We use Proscout as well . . . so can anyone help me format Proscout correctly b/c we have been cutting everything by hand. Be sure you're using version 5 of Proscout. When you're done capturing the video from your DV camcorder, it'll ask you if you want to use the autocuts(or something similar) -- answer 'yes'.

We have a great digital video camera, but I was wondering if a dvd camera will make automatic chapter marks for each play? If it does, do the various scouting programs recognize the cut and make the cutting of the film easier? Does anybody use the DVD camera and what is your experience? Do you like it better than a tape camera? Like others stated, the digital camcorder writes a timestamp when the cameraman hits the pause button. The software that imports it into your computer has to understand this and create the 'clips'. I believe almost all video editing software (football or otherwise) written in the last several years will recogize the timestamps -- if configured correctly. The problem with DVD cameras (and any compressed format in general) is it's very difficult for editing software work with. I don't think any football editing software can use it as input.

Any member know about St Francis HS from the Buffalo NY area? They have contacted us to play next season. Just researching level of play, sportsmanship, etc. All info is really appreciated. Thanks Coming from Buffalo I know them well. We don't play them since most public schools in Buffalo don't play privates and catholics schools. They are a premier team in this area and have a great program. I never heard one complaint about them in regards to sportsmanship etc. They try to play teams outside the region and the HC Jerry Smith has done a great job building one of the best programs. If our Section in NY State allowed private schools to participate in the state playoffs I believe they would have a few state titles under their belt. Mav, where are you located? We're in the Boston area. They're looking to travel to us to play. We're an average size (~1,000 students) public school. I know they're not a very large school, but would you consider them to be the one of the best relative to size or the best overall? We have elite private schools in our area that don't play the publics, but they're not up to the level of the best programs with 2-3,000 students to choose from -- Trying to put it into perspective.

We played them at the last school I was at for several years in a row and I believe the old school will be playing them again this year. Very solid program, good kids, had some great athletes the years we played them. Their coach, Jerry Smith I think, is a great guy. They liked to air it out and run a ton of motions the years we played them. As far as level of play I know they have been trying to schedule the best teams in the east for awhile now. We were nat. ranked a couple of the years we played them and I think one year they cracked the USA rankings for a bit. I think they have played St. Iggy's, St. X, St. Ed's from Ohio and a few other big time programs, so they aren't afraid of comp. Must have a solid program if they are looking to play you. thanks for the info wingtol.

The growing trend with myspace members is to make their pages private. This makes it challenging to review their sites because you must be given permission by the owner. This has pros and cons -- it's good their questionable content isn't posted for everyone to see, but it also gives them a false sense of security. Of course, there are always ways to access private myspace pages. We'll remind them of this with a couple of examples. After they know we've been on their pages, their content is cleaned up.

'Johnson, who played 10 years in the NFL, said he began to deteriorate in 2002 with a concussion during an exhibition game against the New York Giants. He sustained another concussion four days later after Belichick prodded him to participate in a full-contact practice, even though he was supposed to be avoiding hits, Johnson said.' 'After returning to game action, the linebacker sustained more concussions of varying severity over the following three seasons, each of them exacerbating the next, according to his current neurologist, Dr. Robert Cantu.'
So he claims Belichick 'prodded' him to practice 4 years prior to retiring and that must be the reason he's having health issues today. What about the concussions in following three seasons? Sounds to me like another example of placing blame on others instead of taking personal responsability for life's challenges. It's too bad, by all accounts Ted Johnson is a class person and was a very good player for many years. Hope things don't continue to deteriorate for him.

I believe the most common standard for DLine techniques is the old Bear Bryant/Bum Phillips system which is almost exactly what tog wrote except the 1 tech is a shade on the Center and the 2i (for inside) is the inside shade on the Guard. Another tech is the 8, which is one position outside the TE -- usually the wingback spot. So it goes 0,2,4,6,8 for head up, 1,3,5,9 for outside and 2i,4i,7 for inside. But it doesn't really matter as long as we all use the same standard.

We way we teach the basic alpha designations for the recievers: we tell them to picture the most basic of offensive formation... Pro Rt, then go left to right x y z
x oooooy z
x=split, y=TE, z=flanker Seems to work for the kids.

This trade is a no-brainer. Arguably one the best receivers in NFL history comes to your team and offers to restructure his contract from a base of 9 mill, to a 1 year deal with a base of 3 mill(up to 5 with incentives), with no signing bonus because you're the team he wants to play for. You'll include a 'zero tolerance' clause in his contract -- 1 incident and you're gone -- and already have veteran leadership that'll ensure the locker room culture won't get negatively impacted. All for only a 4th round draft pick.
It's all about value - huge potential upside with minimal downside. IMHO, it's about 50/50 which way it'll go.

As a Pats fan - we'll see...
If he fits in and produces (like Corey Dillon did) that's great. If not, no great loss - a 4th round pick. Belichick and Co obviously have a firm grasp on the concept of value.
