For me, the greatest of all time was probably Jerry Rice, Ronnie Lott, and Lawrence Taylor,...those 3 dominated.

You guys are soooooo young. Try Hurrying Hugh Mc Elhanney of the 49ers, Jack Christianson, Yale Lary, Joe Schmidt, Bobby Layne, and Doak Walker of the Lions, Johnny Unitas and Raymond Berry of the Colts.

that's funny to me at one time i had some disdain for mathews because he was not as "nasty" or a mauler like munchak was once i got to learn more and more about ol play, i still loved munchak of course, but seeing the technician that mathews was and the athlete that he was has made me really appreciate him much much more

All the names mentioned previously are great choices. The mention of Ronnie Lott made me smile: what a factor he was on the field. My favorite player to watch was #25 Freddie Biletnikoff. Watching him run routes was such a learning experience...and those hands. Yeah, yeah I know: he was covered with "stickum," but he gave hope to all of us who weren't blessed with blazing speed. From him, I learned that speed is not a necessity for a receiver; it's merely a luxury. The necessities, I learned from his play, were body control, reliable mits, and intelligent route-running. Thanks, Fred.

Hey Tog,
Had to caoch against the HS team that Munchak played for. He was a fullback then and tough as nails. We in our area are very proud of him. My favorite offensively was Gayle Sayers and Larry Wilson defensively. Just a DB at heart. Hawke

Joe Delamielleure. I had a poster of him lead blocking... there was blood all over him. I thought that was the coolest thing ever. When i was in HS: Jerry Kramer (Ice Bowl last play...sorry to you Texas guys) and Johnny Blood (McNally)... probably more because of his antics and because he rode a motorcycle everywhere.

Mine was Mike Singletary. I played linebacker in college and loved the way he played the game. I loved his intensity and how much it showed in his eyes.

Mean Joe Green, Randy White. Roger Staubach, and Bill Bates. Loved Bill Bates the guy was not a great athlete but he was one hard working SOB and loved to hit. Barry Sanders was fun to watch but Tony Dorsett and Walter Payton were by far my favorite backs.

Csonka... Larry Csonka... I was a little kid sitting in front of our tv in a plastic Dolphins helmet dreaming of steamrolling DBs... He was the first pro athlete I ever saw that made me say "I wanna be like him."

i'm not a 49ers fan, and really haven't ever been.....but i was always impressed by how those guys in the 80's handled themselves on the field. always seemed to be calm, poised, and in control. joe montana, offensively and ronnie lott, defensively. i love guys that can simply go out and get the job done, methodically and smoothly.
guess my favorite player when i was a boy was earl campbell. but, i really never had a "hero" or someone i wanted to imitate because of their physical ability or their style. i watched how they carried themselves......the cerebral part of the game, the mental and emotional aspects of how they played. that's why guys like montana, marino, lott, singletary really stand out in my mind. LT, of course, is in there but just because i think he's the most gifted athlete to play football.

I hope no one thinks bad of me but I loved " ROMO". As a player I was 5' 135# and not real athletic I wanted to play like him so bad. Just tear it up and hurt people.

QB Dan Marino the greatest passer of all time.(And yes i grew up in Florida) RB Walter Payton no question. This guy knew how to FINISH a run!!! also John Riggins, Roger Craig, Tony Dorset! WR Jerry Rice enough said! LBers Lawrence Taylor and Mike Singletary Safties Ronnie Lott and Steve Atwater two of the most punishing safties to play the game! DL Reggie White. CB Deon Sanders all the way back to his Florida State days. also Rod Woodson.
Now my favorite RB of all time is Barry Sanders. No doubt he would have broken Walter Paytons record long before Emmit Smith. Don't get me wrong I liked Emmit also. But Barry Sanders did things that were unbelievable!
