O&D 7-7 are periods for the OL & DL to work on their thing in isolation as well. Also, since we have multiple 7-7/perimeter periods, we also do our inside O&D time
It isn't wasted time, unless you are doing a lot of whole team stuff regardless. We basically only have 1 team period for each side of the ball per day, other than our short yardage day when we do goal line.
And just for reference we are a full 2 platoon team. Monday - install/favorite plays Tuesday - Red Zone Wednesday - 3rd and 4th down, including short yardage

Is aeveryone factoring in 2 things? -the kicker has 85% on touchbacks -the kick was TO the left WHERE the Dude was lined up --- hlb2 questions to help clarify : was kicking deep AND left a large factor in that 85%? or was there a possiblilty a a deep and RIGHT call for the KO? reason I'm throwing this out is for KO, we divide the field up into a 3x3 grid, and after we spot the ball, the kicker/KO team is given basically 1-9 call -Deep and Left/Middle/Right -Pooch/Sky and Left/Middle/Right -On-Sides and Left/Middle/Right

How can Hudl possibly justify this? I'm putting both sets of reports, one from new hudl and the others from old hudl. They are going backwards in my opinion. And for those that say Qwikcuts does everything Hudl does cheaper NO IT DOES NOT. They have nowhere near the detailed reports as old Hudl has. Not. Even. Close. The images below are from old hudl. monopolies don't need to innovate

Kids don't know anything... their parents know even less... A lot of guys on here have created some basic football stuff over the years and I am in the process of compiling a "Football School" presentation where we go through as much basic stuff as possible. Here is what it looks like so far: 2024 CHS Football School (Incomplete)I could have sworn I read on here somewhere the the officials don't HAVE to blow the whistle to signal the end of a play, or the end of a play can happen without a whistle, or something to that effect. If I'm remembering correctly is was related to a late hit or some call/penalty that happened without a whistle being blown. or I could be wrong.....

Also, a reminder for the young bucks (and us old farts too), you should be spending half of your offseason time learning the other side of the ball.

Love those surprises. We had a junior come out this year that only played baseball his freshman and sophomore year. Big kid, can only hit a fastball. He's splitting time at 3 tech and killing it. Plays midline like nobodys business. Years ago when I first started we got a baseball kid (catcher) that was pretty good on the diamond to come out a play WR (yes that is correct) for us his Jr & Sr year. Sr year made All region and All State. Ended up getting a full ride to an instate DI-AA and started for 3 years there. I've always used that story to recruit the building. 85/63 scholarships is a whole lot more than 11 divided by ever how many for baseball, or 13 for basketball, etc....

Southeast Wing T Clinic. For HS coaches. Mostly by HS coaches. I have been several times. And there is something for everyone. Traditional wing t room. Hybrid wing t room. Spread room. And defense room. Highly recommend it. Coach Holmes and his staff put it on. Great clinic. where that be

We can only make it to one or 2 clinics - which one(s) should be on our radar? How good is your staff? If you got some decent coaches, then clinic yourself. You might learn a lot of football, but you'll most definitely learn a lot about the guys you work with. How good are the teams around you? If you got some good 'uns, then invite them over for beverages and pizza. Most coaches just want to talk 'ball and are more than willing to share. I've put on a afternoon clinic before for the local folks and it was as good as anything you could get at a big city, just shorter. cqmiller puts on a big one that I wish I could have gone to before, and maybe one day I'll buy that plane ticket. Don't underestimate the resources you have right in front of you. Unless I've got to beat you to feed my family, I'll give you the keys to the kingdom.

If you have it in hudl break it down with your terminology and then run reports. I can't break it down in Hudl. I don't have that much access. But the question remains if I was watching games on NFHS or another platform what has worked for coaches to learn from film when you can't talk to the coach? That is the answer I am looking for in this question. Back before they invented color, there were these things called tablets/note pads. And with a ruler and a pencil you could draw on them and make columns and rows, and even include headings. You also could use them to draw little X's and little O's. And once you made a butt ton of sheets of paper, you could spread them out on the floor and then sort them by like numbers/X's&O's/ etc..... Then you stacked the like sheets and then started drawing/sorting again with like categories. After that you tallied the numbers on a chalk board and then contemplated the numbers. Yeah, just being an arse, but..... the working of the sorting and then the working of the numbers made me the coach I am. Hudl is convenient but the analysis/knowledge component can't be exchanged. Do some drawing and sorting and you'll figure it out.

I coach in the top classification in SC and have for the last 20 years. Most everyone is 10 gun personnel, with some type of 'heavy/jumbo/Single wing' for short yardage/goal line. A couple go 11 personnel or 20 personnel. There is only 1 Wing T team. There is one that will go 12 personnel. Other than the Wing T team, we haven't played a mostly under center team since about 2009/2010 Double Wing team. Usually going under center is a dead give a way for QB sneak. The last time we saw a team that showed any type of Pro I type look was in 2017, and it was their 'change of pace' offense. The offenses in SC at our level are as exciting as a bowl of milk. Meanwhile, 5 of the 6 finalists in the Illinois state championships 1A-3A are UC wing-t/flexbone teams. I'm fairly certain all 5 beat shotgun spread teams in the semis. lower levels have more variance. Last week in 4A, there was a game that had a spread team beat another team 68-53.... the losing team had RB go for bout 360 yards and 8 IDs.... I'm not sure what that losing team did feature offensively. Back home in 2A a school that has multiple state championships that did a lot of damage with Wing Bone/Wish Bone has gone 'spread'..... and basically run the same option/power offense they have run for the last 30 years..... The reason being they were getting poached by other teams b/c the college recruiters told a QB that 'they didn't throw the ball enough'

I am watching a show on Hulu about the Navy Seals. One of the things a drill sergeant mentioned: you can build physical toughness, but mental toughness can't be taught. You can't teach it, but I think you can give kids opportunities to learn it through actions. 'teach it', 'learn it' 2 sides of the same coin

We went away from using old game jerseys, again cost isn't an issue for us. We do sell/give/donate the old game jerseys.
Fans, alumni, faculty/staff love being able to get that game used jersey.
You can make some decent money off selling them, or you can make some decent political capital by giving them away.

If you 2 platoon and want to limit HOW MANY jerseys you buy, just go into the offseason and assign numbers and then buy jerseys based on those O/D numbers.
If you don't care what numbers someone has, or just want a blank jersey, buy enough of each color based on size.
We fortunately don't have to worry about the money aspect, but still end up with kids wearing jerseys with a number other than their Friday night one.
The numbers helps with accountability (somebody 'borrowing' another's jersey/short/T/etc...) but in the long run needing to designate a player only matters when we practice to play a team that matters.

We have the offense and the defense in different colored jerseys from the get go, and the QBs are in read.
If we need to have a designated jersey for a 'dude' then we put one on the player who is to be 'that dude'.
But we are 2 platoon and most kids are either/or.
the jerseys we use to identify the opponent's dudes, we slit the sides of the jersey to they can go on over a helmet and shoulder pads
We've in the past just used athletic tape to make a number for that guy

Some of it you can have fun with. Do some kind of competition where they do something hard. They really get into that. Fat boy fades You'd be surprised how hard you can get a big ol' line man to sprint 60 yards if catching a football is at the end of it.

Several years ago during the playoffs, when we had pulled up some JV kids that we wanted to reward, the weather starts to get cool; we have a game that will (for us) be cold -- in the low 40s/upper 30's at KO.
So all the ROYs/hotdog eaters are bundled up, including one of my 10th grade/JV safeties (that end up starting for me his senior year on a state championship team) has everything on he can find.
We go through our normal dynamic warm up, positional warm up, etc..... well one of the other players comes up to me and says, "There's something wrong with Jimmy" and there is this kid is sitting over on the bench. I go over and check on him and he is obviously hurting but says that he will be okay. I tell him to talk to the trainer, and go on getting ready for the game.
Comes to find out he had to be rushed to the hospital that night to have emergency surgery because he spermatic cords had gotten twisted up as he was warming up with all the pairs of long underwear he had on under his game pants.

Unless everyone agrees, the defensive stats are the most ridiculous stats I've seen. There was a team around here that was counting a tackle of a QB on a zone-read behind the LOS as a sack. They would play a team that only had 20 pass plays called in a game and have like 16 sacks. I always use the official stat rules and only give 1 solo or up to 2 assisted tackles only. If you want to check the math, you should always have: Total Defensive Snaps - Touchdowns - Penalties = solo + .5*assisted Nothing makes me laugh harder than a team with only 75 defensive snaps in a game and has like 185 tackles between solos and assisted. it ain't just defense. Unless somebody takes the time to double check, the numbers are just what they say they are. Years ago when I first started coaching and our rival had a pair of brothers in the backfield, and there was a big deal made of how many games in a row the TB had 100 yard rushing games. The game before we played each other was for the conference championship and our rival lost a tough, low scoring game. Watching the film as defensive prep, the TB didn't seem to gain a lot yards -- no long runs/big plays but lots of carries. After watching it several times and being bored with trying to figure out how to slow them down, I decided to tally the gains the TB had from the film. Instead of the 107 'hard fought' yards to gain his 19th 100+ yard rushing game in a row, it actually was 87 yards gained.

Our state association encourages school to send in film. I know a lot of the officials (at least the ones we know) do watch the things sent in, and the training/retraining uses those clips to teach.
They have a Hudl account they use.

If you stay in one place long enough - Sooner or later you will have to rebuild your own program. And it seems the turnover rate for that is getting shorter and shorter. Because kids are the same kids as they've always been... my biggest problem is that every season I get a year older, but the players never age...

There’s a private school around here that did a real football for the alumni. Alumni Game!!! It’s full contact with pads. Borrowed equipment from hs team…COVID killed it. It’s a real thing that I’m not sure how nobody A. Died B. Got arrested C. Got sued or D. All of the above. Been a long time tradition and I think there are games on YouTube. Here a while back (8-10 years ago) there was a group/company that did these as a fund raiser project; supplied the equipment, players had to buy jerseys. Several school around did it. Not sure if it still exists today.
