I never played and never coached before last year and walked into a HC position for a youth league. Looking back, I didn't know as much as I thought I knew. So my biggest recommendation is to take advantage of Glazier Clinics online and learn as much as you can. Be prepared. Have a practice schedule / format scheduled before the season and adjust based on how the guys are learning
I'm going to have my entire staff next year join Glazier and I'll be joining xandolabs.com here soon.

1. KISS 2. FUNDAMENTALS, FUNDAMENTALS, FUNDAMENTALS 3. Build relationships with the kids (trust and respect factors) 4. Practice hard and upbeat, but make it fun and competitive also 5. Fit offense to personnel; make it series based. Only need a handful of plays if you execute them well. 6. Defense- focus on alignment, tackling, run fits, pursuit angles. 7. Take it serious, have a plan but HAVE FUN! In the end, you want the kids to love football. 8. Don't make it about winning. It's about the process. Develop character and a love for football.
Hope that helps.
