We play a road playoff game this Friday. We will travel a little over 3 hours in a big yellow school bus. This is about double our normal road trip travel time. We had one playoff game of a similar distance last year and we stopped one time for 10 minutes to use the restroom. That wasn't the cause of our loss, but I'm sure it did have a slight negative impact on us.
We have a little over an hour built in to our travel time. We are planning on stopping about half way there, but the question is what do we do once we have stopped.
The temperature should be in the low to mid 50s with no precipation during our travel. We have talked about just finding a place to get out and let them walk around for a while, doing a walk through, or even doing some easy jogging/stretching. What have any of you done that you feel has benefited your players mentally and/or physically on a trip longer than they are used to.

We have decided to just get there early...do a walk through on site. Make it very business like. We also eat pre-game meal together when we arrive around 4:00pm for a 7:00PM kick-off.
Bathroom Break we stretch it out to about 15-20 minutes.

Coached in a conference that averaged about four hours (at least) a trip for road games. We used to get out and stretch legs and do a walkthrough at some state park with a big parking lot about an hour out of our final destination. That ended up working well for us.

Do you have a school about halfway that would allow you to use their field for a stretch/walk through?

Do you have a school about halfway that would allow you to use their field for a stretch/walk through? We have done this in the past. Some colleges will let you do it as well and the kids get a good kick out of it. When we haven't been able to secure a field, if we are on the interstate we will stop at a rest stop because there is usually enough room or if we were travelling state roads we would google and find a public park somewhere in the middle. Both usually have bathroom facilities and space.

We stop half way use bathroom and do a warm up to get everything going. Try to get there a little bit early to get them more time for bathroom and unpack.

We stop about halfway. Give the kids a bathroom break/allow them to walk around/stretch. Give them some fruit, water/Gatorade. Lastly do a quick special teams check. Sort of sets the tone that it's now business time and we need to be focused from here on.

Spend the money and get a coach bus.... We had to beg to get the school to buy us a meal after the game. We ended up stopping at a high school field about 2/3 of the way there. Their HC met us there and opened up their locker room and let us do a walk-through on their field. We were there about 45 minutes or so.
