I'll be staying down on JV this year but in addition to OC and getting to play with some new ideas I found out that I'll be possibly be moving onto linebackers on the defensive side.
I've spent the past four seasons coaching outside backers, which in our system are basically stand up hybrid DEs. Things there have gotten a bit stale and I'm excited for something a little new.

One of my all-time favorite kids that I've coached is now 26, finished a master's degree, and is going to be coming out to help this year. He's going to be dynamite once he gets some seasoning and the kids are going to love him.
I've got another young'un who I think has some potential coming out to help, he's going to need more firm guidance but it'll be good for him and us.
My full-time OL coach from two years ago was part time last year and we got by because we were really good, but he's full time again this season, so that's also great.
I should have a pretty good staff, which is neat because that's not a typical thing for a JV program where we are. Coaching by yourself is pretty tiring.

We have a great group of kids who are some of the hardest workers I have ever been around. We lost 8 starters on offense and 7 on defense, but this group is really fun to coach. The work hard and have a great attitude, and they love being coached.

Heading into a new job at a new school in a new city. Really excited about learning from a coach with over 30 years of experience, in a program that is on the rise and I'm really excited seeing a different brand of football than the last few years. Where I am now, they play a lot more 10 and 20 personnel and very little Wing-T and Double Wing.

Getting bumped up to "the big show" so to speak. Varsity (co) o-line coach. Did one year of middle school, one year of freshmen, and now a varsity assistant. And I gotta lack some humility here, but I busted my ass for it and feel like I deserved it. I'm just excited to see in what ways I get my ass handed to me in this first year as a varsity coach...luckily we have a phenomenal staff, and the other o-line coach has been a great teacher to me. And we have great kids, quite a bit of talent, and a shot to do some real damage in our district this season.

Our offensive line has three kids that I wouldn’t want to fight with. I think I could get em but they are the type of kids that would bite, poke and pinch to the death if that’s what it took. Two are three year starters and one is a four year starter.
We have to replace our center and a guard but we have working parts there. We should be really good up front.
We did lose a three starter a QB so I feel like our line group gets to carry the load if we are going to be successful.
Defensively just happy to be in year #2. We lose a few but should make up for it with execution. Will be the first time in six years our school has had the same defensive philosophy and coaching staff for consecutive years.

Coaching a 6’2” 290 4th year Varsity DL / OL who is now being recruited by Ball State alongside a 6’3” 315 2nd year Varsity DL / OL!
Also, my HC/DB coach has green lighted moving our best defensive player from DB to MLB. He is a bit undersized (5’ 10 165), but with the way we play defense coupled with 605+ pounds in front of him the kid just has to make a decent read before running CLEANLY to make a tackle (which he is the best in the team at doing).
If we are not .500+ I am probably retiring because I probably suck as a coach.

The place I am at now we are rebuilding the program. They folded 2 years ago and now its a complete rebirth of 20+ people who are brand new to the sport with 8 that have played before but need help with technique.
We will be playing against teams that have imported former NCAA guys for half of the schedule.
I'm looking forward to being in a dog fight every week with this team and setting a solid foundation to build upon.

I was a varsity coordinator for a few years and did fine, then moved back home from across the country for family reasons. Right now I am a JV coordinator (JV is mostly independent from varsity but we run the same stuff) and I initially got it handed to me because the quality of ball is so much better here. So, depending on where you are at the jump may or may not be a huge one.

I'm just excited to see how things pan out. We lost a great group of seniors who as freshmen went 2-8 and had gotten us back to 7-3 last year. We return a 1st team all-conference QB who was a freshmen, a skill guy who averaged 11.7 yards per touch, and the meanest LG I've ever seen, but that's it. Our OL will be more talented, but very young (no seniors). We return all 5 starting DB's, and not 1 starter in the front 6. We'll see if the culture we've recreated is going to hold. It's been a hectic offseason and we've cut a few guys loose who didn't want to do it the right way, including a would be senior.
Real nervous we could be 3-7/4-6, but real excited because we could make a run at it.

And I would be amiss not to mention how huge this board has been in my growth as a coach since I joined 4 or 5 years ago. If you are an aspiring young coach, like I was when I joined this board in college, do what I did and just read EVERYTHING you can on here.

In my opinion, we are fortunate in that we get to really start from ground zero with a lot of players and just focus on out blocking, tackling and shedding teams whilst keeping it simple enough scheme wise.

We return a lot of really good kids - on and off the field.
QB is the perfect kid you want to coach - works hard, leads well, loves the game.
Got a stud WR and we are deep there as well. Very good TE.
Should be a fun year as an OC. We have been building for the last couple years. Primed and ready to have one of the best seasons in school history if we handle our business.

I'm looking forward to reestablishing a program that doesn't tolerate dead weight or part time players.
I've been doing this for awhile and still made the mistake of trying to keep numbers in a small program at the cost of some standards. Not ever going to happen again.

I’m in year 2 of a major over haul. 4 Seniors this year. All the rest Freshmen and Sophomores with some Juniors sprinkled in. We may not win a game but, we actually look like a football team at spring practice right now. At this time last year I had 24. I now have 34. Missing 5 today (2 injured; 3 no showed). It’s a process and there’s no way you can speed it up. If we can keep this going, I firmly believe we can be very good in another year or 2. Gonna be a tough road but, should be worth it. Won 3 games last year for the 1st time in 8 years at this school.
In spite of all that, I love coaching here. There’s some kids out there that hang on to every thing we say. That’s what makes it worth it. Gonna be a wild ride this year.

Some other things I forgot about:
New turf on our game field
Getting turf put on the baseball field (helllll yes to no more field maintenance)
Moving from two preps to one (had both English II and III, now just II)
Changing our communication and playcalling system to something that is going to allow us to spend so much more time on teaching technique of HOW to do stuff rather than on "remember to do THIS when we signal or say THIS."

In 3rd year of rebuilding a small upstate, NY school. More kids have paid dues in the weight room (still never enough). Could (should) make playoffs. First game is against the team that kept us out of the playoffs last year. I'm almost 60 so anything still exciting is a good thing. School's football history up until the last decade has been VERY good. Some years off the charts. Need to get it back.

I was just talking to a couple of AD's a few months ago and they were saying that the assistant o-line spot is getting harder and harder to hire because so many young guys don't want to be "assistant" anything. They feel like they've been watching a chit ton of o-line videos on twitter so they are ready to run the whole show now, even dudes straight out of college Friend of mine is at a fairly elite program near a major city and they were looking to fill a varsity spot, found a guy who didn't have much varsity football experience (maybe 3 years) and wasn't at a prestigious program or anything but had played major college football, interviewed well and his second sport was a perfect fit so they offered him the job ..when they offered it to him dude asked the principal (not in so many words) how long it would be until he was the head coach....apparently he didn't like the answer he got and turned them down rumble young man rumble
