Other than this strategic ICM conflict I only watch the History channel, dude. I hear some folks play sodoku to improve their synaptic connectivity, but I don't know.

I think the pattern recognition thing definitely correlates, but I think that it is a misnomer that good coordinators are good at chess/checkers/etc.
Anybody truly nasty at chess out there?

Tog - Thanks to you I played until 7:00. I was on level 5 and I had 16 lives remaining on wave 43, then it all unraveled from there and I lost on level 46. By then I was jittery from the caffeine and collapsed due to exhaustion.

white mike: "Anybody truly nasty at chess out there?"
I am. USCF rated and play in tourneys. Truly nasty since the age of five.
Except for helping me be a good prep guy in football, though, as a youth coach it does more harm than good. I have to tone down that crush at all costs mentality and being tooo strategic. After all, pawns are only as good as how and where you place them but in youth sports they never stay where you want them to. They're all too busy chasing the king. A plan is only as good as your ability to carry it out.
I applaud the coach who plays chess with his players though. It will really get them to think about mental problem solving which is great. But I wouldn't let them play on game day, it drops your IQ temporarily like after you take an SAT. After a hard tournement, I usually feel like just going to sleep for the rest of the day, it is that mentally and emotionally draining.

I'm really horrible at chess. I can't remember the last time I won. The same is true for most games. You need to care-really care-about these games and I don't. Football, I care about.

Anybody truly nasty at chess out there? Well, I beat Coach Calande like a redheaded stepchild, but I try not to taunt him afterwards...

I play "hungry, hungry Hippos" with my LBs.... I dont want them thinking bout anything other than eating and munching stuff . Unfortunately I think I played pac man too much with my DBs as they now run away from pasty white WRs . For the older gentleman and Coach.... not really suitable for a work setting however jo-jo.net/ariane/dateariane/default.htmIs the most addictive thing I have ever played, lol!

My ultimate strategy games: 1. Guess whether or not my 3 year old will eat dinner or hold out for mac and cheese... 2. Guess which toy from the back of the closet in the toy "pile" she will want to use today, and whether or not I will be able to find it...
Sadly, she usually defeats me resoundingly. I am consider using a "running up the score" rule so I can keep my self esteem up and try again tomorrow.

coachjim
I am a member of USCF and used to be rated when I had the time to go to tourneys. Would love to play you sometime. Can't find enough live bodies to play chess and I get sick of playing the computer all the time. I play on Yahoo a lot. Hopefully I would ge good enough competition.
I play chess against the kids during breaks in double sessions. I am also the chess coach at my high school.
