"got his ass"
no idea where this came from... but i cant stop saying it to myself during 7on7 tourneys.
When i call a play, i can generally look at the defense and have a pretty good idea of where the ball will go base don pre snap CAP. When i see a WR/TE about to break open... like i see it coming, i know it is about to happen and i anticipate us hitting it... i say "got his ass" under my breath
like as in our WR got that DB

Our staff has always coached one side of the ball. We have liked this because when the varsity is on say offense in group etc then the JV will work defense so we like the development we get from this method. However, due to staff shortage in personnel etc we may not have the coaches to do this. So some of the brainstorming we have had has us possibly coaching both sides of the ball obviously but with a format of devoting each practice to either offense or defense for that day along with special teams work. So was wondering if any of you guys that devote practices to one side or the other could share a general overview of how you do it schedule wise and for others pro/con of this method. Can you do it in season or preseason etc. thanks. My personal preference is to be 50/50 split O and D time every day (well, really 60/40 O but i'll compromise and say 50/50) that said, this year HC wanted to switch up practice so now we have an emphasis but still get a little time with the other side of the ball So we currently practice on field for 90 minutes a day, 4x a week (in Spring Ball we were going 45 O and 45 D) On "Offensive" days we practice 65 minutes O and 25 minutes D on "Defensive" days we practice 65 minutes D and 25 minutes O Monday and Wednesday are offensive focus Tuesday and thursday are defensive focus For my planning purposes I tweaked my 3 day install (cut day 3 in half) and we basically work half the offense on Monday and half on Wednesday I look at my 25 minutes on defensive days as "bonus" time and either use it for extra INDY work (can never work fundamentals enough) And/Or use it to work on adding something new for example, i just finished typing today's plan my 25 minutes... 15 is indy based. 10 is us working motion as a wrinkle... Jet and motioning into trips (which is different for us)

I teach/coach JRHS football in a low-income community. We fundraise as much as possible. 1) Football cleats have been an issue, I am looking to put our fundraising $$$ into some cleats and do it as a library check-out system? Anyone ever done this, is this an efficient system and how long will cleats last from the wear and tear of a season? Plastic cleats more durable & longer lasting than metal wired ones? Looking to checkout the local Goodwill for some cleats. Open to all suggestions. 2) Looking for retailer suggestions, where do you guys purchase the following? Football hand bags Football red agility bags Those boards you see in OL drills (Home depot?) Football chutes colored Jerseys/Pinnies dont know if you have ROSS near you or not but all the ones here have really cheap cleats Typically big sizes but i am talking $15-20 for a brand new pair of Nike cleats I usually swing by and pick up some size 13,14 ones if they have any because often these kids have to order them online Dicks sporting goods doesnt have much selection in store when you get above a 12

I bought little stacks pf pancakes a few years ago, kids loved them but i stopped because it became annoying and overly needy
They were coming to me all day long with their phones on the hudl app saying look at this clip or look at this one
anytime a kid fell down and they were near it they wanted a sticker

Not sure how it is in the rest of the country but in VA we are allowed to wear helmets during 7v7. Some tournaments wear them some don't...we were at a 7v7 today where the helmets were mandatory but a couple of teams showed up w/o them forcing us to play w/o our helmets for which we have never practiced.. Why would anyone choose not to wear a helmets if they could? We technically have the option to wear them. most tourneys don't require them since we can't really gear up til end of July in our section i personally HATE helmets for 7on7 i think you are asking for way more injuries than if they had helmets Kids play crazy with helmets on because they think they won't get hurt, they become battering rams youre not going to stick your nose in there without a helmet so guys naturally play less physically like 7on7 is intended ive seen way more injuries from helmets in 7on7 than without helmets

This offseason we had about 20 helmets not get reconditioned and still have the decals from last year on them. We have a sort of big decal that wraps around most of the front half of the helmet, and leaves the sticky adhesive stuff underneath when taking the decal off. What is the best way to clean the helmet and make it look like new (or as new as possible)? Umm isn't it illegal to NOT have it reconditioned???

We always play better when we are rushing, scrambling to get ready than when we are ready and sit around with tons of time

We have gone less and less contact over the last couple years
when i go INDY we put work in at OL we are physical without trying to murder each other
We go "thud" in practice on O for maybe 10 mins a day... max of 2 days per week
the last 2 years have been the most physical we have been in decades here.
Physicality comes from the weight room, and individual work IMO

well, we met with our local rep
he was pretty convincing and GUARANTEED that we would make more than we did with another company
the biggest factors -Our HC loved that you can track the emails and who has done what/has opened what -our track team used them and has made 5k, and our cheer team just started and has 2k in less than 2 weeks and i KNOW we have WAY more kids than them
so i feel like we can get at least the 5k that track raised, which would be more than we had through different companies

they're marketed as something to help ADD/ADHD kids "focus better in class" by keeping their hands occupied and burning off some nervous energy
in reality they're just annoying
saw a good pic on twitter where a teacher put a padlock through one
i just threaten to throw them on the roof
i have only seen "the dorky/nerdy" kids use them
never one of my football kids, let alone bring it out to the field

I looked into them last year but couldn't get anyone to talk to me. IIRC the percentage is a sliding scale, the more you make the less they take. Yes the have a dashboard where you can look at donations from each player's contacts. I liked their stuff and would have used them over Hudl Campaign if they would have worked with me. didnt HUDL get rid of hudl campaign?

i havent sat down and met with the guy
your % back can change, it is based on how many kids you have participate and their level of participation
the guy bugs me, texts me all the time about meeting which is a bit annoying
but he did guarantee we would make more than what we made last year through a different company
if you guys do it post on here how it goes we usually do this type of fundraiser in august

You ever met one of those simpletons who think coaches who teach just sit at their desk and play movies for their class everyday? Or the ones who think people associated with athletics are ignorant? A lot of them get into admin, become school board members, and district personnel management in California. Not all districts of course but it's more common than it should be. Source - I'm in the process of trying to find a new teaching job and research the people I'm going to be interviewing with. good points i've met a lot of people working in education... who you can just tell got picked on by "jocks" in HS... and now try to take it out on "jocks" now

I was inspired by Coach Randy Jackson's book Culture Defeats Strategy - www.coachbdud.com/2016/12/29/culture-defeats-strategy-book-review/We are doing a week long boot camp for the players this week. JV and varsity alternate between weight room and field On field we haven't done any actual football, it has been all competitive drills a lot of different forms of "relay races" in various ways It has been a blast, the kids are working harder than i have ever seen, we are starting to have some leaders emerge better than any point last season... and they are finally starting to cheer each other on We are by no means perfect, we very much have a team divided but i see it starting to bring everyone together. It is probably the best change we have made... some special moments this week and we are starting to separate the men from the boys... the winners from the excuse makers. Here are some examples of things we have done this week.

I'm pretty sure here in California the law is that the district requires its coaches make a living doing anything but work at the school/district they coach for. i cant tell if you are being sarcastic or you seriously mean that

a 3 color matte helmet (theyre navy and vegas gold colors)
bottom part of helmet matte white then a gold stripe then matte navy blue
they had their logo, in the shiniest, most metallic looking sticker i have ever seen
it REALLY popped off of the matte
i loved it

a constant struggle for me here but that is just the kind of school this is
bad school, in a bad area
there are essentially 4 kinds of kids that i have ever met
1. High GPA, self motivated kid -has always had good grades, gifted, but also works hard for example my C and LT each have OVER 4.0 GPAs. My Center is applying for a NATIONAL scholar athlete award with his 4.5ish GPA I leave these kids alone, they dont need anything from me (i was one of these kids)
2. 2.0ish kids... Always in the low 2s for GPA but always make grades. They dont need anything from you, they're never going to the IVY league but you dont have to stress about them making grades, they are always fine and just get through HS with a bunch of Cs/Ds and a few As in their favorite classes sprinkled in
3. Struggling but can change - just needs help in some way. For some kids it is a series of firm kicks to the butt, for some it is a little study hall/ tutoring time. Once they realize someone cares and/or there is help out there... they improve enough to at least play
4. Struggling and refuse to change - you try the same things as with kid #3 but it doesnt matter, there is no improvement and sometimes it gets worse. These are the painful kids to work with. You pour your energy and heart into them and they take a $hit on you
3 and 4 look and act the exact same initially. You have to try to get through to them, because DAMN does it feel rewarding when you get through to them and see them evolve... working their way up the scale i just laid out.
My RT started HS as a 3... awful grades in middle school (straight Fs) became a 2... literally got a 2.0 on the dot every semester just to be able to play he is evolving into a 1.. he has over a 3.0 GPA for him... his mom was almost in tears when she saw his last report card. He grew up.

I know this belongs in the equipment section but I'm hoping it can be left here for a bit so it can get more views and discussion. Do matte helmets require a different type of decal material? We changed our helmets colours to a gunmetal grey look and are sourcing new helmet decals. The samples we got from our supplier are too reflective where you can see the excess material through the blanks areas in the design. nope We were the first ones in our area using the matte look We did Matte black for years HC switched back to glossy before last season we liked the matte black look, but felt it was getting played out a bit and the biggest factor was the paint chipping off the matte colors dont seem to "stick" to the helmet as well we had a lot of flaking/peeling on the crowns of helmets and our riddell rep pretty much said the matte colors come off easier

Coachbdud-do you go for two everytime because you believe that the average is in your favor and your will make over 1/2 of them or do you just not have a kicker in your program. Also, how much time do you spend practicing two point plays during the week? just playing the numbers we have a kicker capable of making PATs but only use it for situations (if it was tied late, or if we had a big lead) I KNEW we would be over 50% Give the ball to best player with 10 guys blocking, he only needs to get 3 yards... build a couple counters and passes off of it for fun and we are rolling 3 years ago we were about 70% success 2 years ago was the best year, we were 85%... had a 6 game stretch where we made every single one this year went down, back to just under 70 still over 50, but we were really soft this year with some of the personnel i had blocking Havent decided what i want to do next year

thought about them but Im drunk off the OLP site currently they make great points for power coming from elbow in not just hands in and with these (and other products like them) the hands can be inside easily with the elbows flared out... losing torque) just my thoughts

My head coach recently told me we had some money left in the budget that we need to spend before the year is up in September. Currently for linemen we have a shoot, 5 man sled, power drive trainers, and boards. With a big budget, what are some things you might consider buying to help during season or off season? I'm looking for ideas....thanks. Check out the products from LeCharles Bentley over at OLP it has been a big upgrade that i have fundraised my butt of for I dont have everything i have 2 X blocking bags 1 Pill 2 kick boards 2 strike sticks 2 posture tubes a very good set that i can use in season and out of season if you dont follow him on social media you are crazy i also became a member of his site with the subscription option to get his online video content great drills and coaching points i have sipped the Kool Aid and am all in with the way he teaches OL play lbolineperformance.com/products/

Dub Maddox - the GOAT No Speaker has ever made me feel so bad that everything i have been doing is wrong and there is a better, simpler way to do it What things stood out the most that you have simplified since then? -watching film -grading defenders -understanding defensive alignment and "best options to attack space" -setting up my playcall sheet -building in "answers" to my playcall sheet all things I have done for 11 years, all things WE ALL do but dubmaddox gives a BETTER, more consistent way to do it I am a science kinda guy, he equates many things with being a forensic investigator and that just really clicks for me

also great because you can access it and work on it or view it from a number of different devices
