It seems like all kids want to listen today these days is rap with all the cursing and that, how do you guys deal with that?

It seems like all kids want to listen today these days is rap with all the cursing and that, how do you guys deal with that? Rap is allowed but cursing is not, no matter the type of music. How about some Twisted Sister - We're Not Gonna Take It!

The kids have more on their iPod than you can ever put on a CD. Put the captains in charge of the mix with the caveat that any cursing in the songs leads to updowns/laps/extra push-ups/wind sprints/etc.
Also, we play a version of an all request, with a twist, so we don't always have the same DJ/music. The first letter of the new requested song has to be the last letter of last song. For example, if "evenflow" by Pearl Jam is playing now, the next song would have to start with a "w" like "welcome to the jungle" by GNR. Then the next song would start with an "e".

AC/DC is standard but our favorite is "It's A Long Way to the Top"--really gets us going.
There's also an old Irish folk song called "Fields of Athenry" that was remade by an Irish punk band called The Dropkick Murphy's. The song is rocked up and speeded up and is great.
And it kind of sends chills toward the end when that bagpipe comes on, then the drums, and then the bass. Very cool and a weightroom favorite.

Soil- Halo. Most of the kids will never have heard it (you either) but it's awesome- heavy and loud.
I have a ritual-I listen to the above song before every squat or deadlift workout.

I mentioned AC/DC's "It's a Long Way to the Top" and Irish band Dropkick Murphys yet I left out the Dropkick Murphy version of "It's a Long Way to the Top" which has the middle bridge with pretty wild bagpipes.
Hey, I'm a Hibernian, those bagpipes give me chills.

Im a younger coach 23 so I like the new stuff kids listen to like Underoath and Rise Aginst. But some stuff I listened to when I was playing was POD, Prodigy, I LOVED college marching bands, braveheart sound track stuff, and the songs from Vison Quest the GREATEST sports movie no matter what sport.
