Woo-Hoo! We started spring practice today. We got a good heavy contact period in and got run inside by the lightning and thunderstorms. We then went in the gym where my sophomore QB promptly did a 3 step drop into the bleachers. Hopefully we'll get to stay outside tomorrow.

That's great, it's just around the corner for most, I do envy the contact that you are allowed and some others are, what are you guys looking at doing or better yet accomplishing this spring?

I coach in Arizona, if I am not mistaken, we are allowed 10 non-contact practices, we usually re-introuduce our base stuff, look at some new things, and work on the fundamentals like footwork and stance for our newcomers.

I'm in Tennessee. We mainly do like you, review our basic stuff (intro for new guys), get our footwork and fundamental work down. Look at any changes we're thinking about, see what works and doesn't. We're also going no huddle this year, so we're getting that system installed.

In MS, we get 15 total workout days that can end with a scrimmage game/jamboree. 3 of those days are no pads though.

In Utah, we get 10 days to work with the kids. No full-pads though. We just do helmets only, and go over footwork, introduce new kids to the system, etc....

In Michigan we don't have "spring ball". Luckily we have an advanced sport class where we can get much of what we need accomplished.

If the MHSAA has its way, Rooster, next year will be the last year of "Advanced Sports" Class ("Techniques of Sports" at our school). Have you seen the proposal that's to go into effect July 1, 2007?

In NC there is no full contact, or specified time for spring ball. The rule in that you have an UNLIMITED number of days with a maximum of 21 players to do skill development from March 15 until 5 days from the end of the semester. So basically we can go out as much as we want between March 15 and the end of the year as long as we dont take out more than 21 or hit.
