In order to be legal I think they have to have a tag on them saying they meet NF/NCAA specifications. You can find it on the inside of the gloves.

I don't have a definite ruling, but my guess would be they would NOT be legal in a game.

Since they are called training gloves I take it that they are not designed to be used in a game.

I don't know if it's illegal, but the player has to live with getting made fun of by every other kid on the field, regardless of the team.

Well it says they can be used on gameday. They are made by cutters which is a popular glove. If they help a kid catch touchdowns I don't think anyone will be making fun of him. It makes sense to me. Especially on rainy day games when the ball often shoots through that triangle we coach them to make. Maybe "aquaman" would be a good name for them if they push how they will help you catch on raining days

im almost certain that they are not legal on game day. i believe it was explained to me at a clinic by a cutters rep that these gloves are for training/practice. they are designed to have the wr develop the feel of catching the football properly. cutters alos has a tackleing trainer glove available.

My guess is no as well.
As far as helping a wr learn to catch, IMO the best thing would be to learn proper technique for catching a ball. A glove that does this for you with webbing would take some of that lesson away.
I think it teaches things that a kid may not be able to apply in a game, so I question its value - if it is illegal on game day.

I don't understand the purpose of these. Wouldn't you want something that has less surface area to catch with for training so that you work on catching more instead of something that would give you a false sense of security by providing more area that won't be there during the game. Can someone explain the point of these to me?

Can someone explain the point of these to me? $ for Cutters! It kind of reminds me of that movie Tin Cup where Kevin Costner comes in with all the golf doohickeys that are supposed to help a player swing toward the ball better. Just more junk a player has to leave in the locker before kickoff . . .

Can someone explain the point of these to me? My guess would be that theory/thought process behind it is to train the muscle memory. Practice catching 100 balls with the gloves, each time trapping the nose of the football in the web, and closing the grip with the fingers. Now, take the gloves off, and the muscle memory (if it goes according to plan) should position the hands in the proper position, and the grip will close with the fingers..

I'm pretty sure they are not legal. I can't wait to email this post to my referee buddy. He is going to throw a fit.
