Ok now that I have gotten to watch and listen to the entire video...WACO team and its coaches should have their season suspended. That kid was absolutely targeted not just on one play but on several plays by several players..that doesn't happen without coaches direction not on a freshmen level. Disgusted. False

I wouldn’t be surprised if it came out that the smaller kid had been talking $hit on social media all week or during the game if they were after him like that.
I’m not saying what happened is ok but don’t throw chum in the water if you don’t want the sharks to show up

I think he deserved exactly what he got. What he did to get the flag in the video doesn’t tell the whole story. If he had already been flagged once for unsportsmanlike conduct my guess is he had been acting like a real doucher the whole game.
It’s like we tell our kids who get detention for minor offenses. What they did to get wrote up may have been nothing but it was the sum total of minor offenses that period or that week that got the teacher to the edge

Have a chart coach for d/d and play type.
Coach on the headset relaying info to me and stuff he’s seeing on the field that I just can’t from the sideline.
He also has the hudl sideline and tells me what play #s to look at with the players for adjustments

We have quite a few kids that watch a lot of football. And we have a lot of kids who don't. Both groups are ignorant

Hi all. So I've been out of coaching since 2016 and am ready to get back onto a staff next season and I would like to visit some of the local high school teams and the DII team near where I live to watch practice and maybe just talk ball with some of the coaching staff. My question is whether this is even appropriate to try and do during the season and how I should go about contacting them. I figured I'd just send emails to the HC but curious about what all I should put in it. Thanks. Can't speak for everyone but I don't have time to just sit and chat about football in season. Frankly, I talk enough about football all week I have no desire to do it much in my spare time

I was at a school several years back and we played a REALLY good DTDW team who was beating our a$$e$ handily.
When they started throwing the ball: a) they weren’t good at it, b) I said to myself “thank god they’re done running.”
If that helps any

This is one nuance of the Huey board I wish would die.
All I imagine when someone brings it up is that scene from a Christmas Story when the kid slowly touches his tongue to the flag pole.
Only instead of a kid it’s a man and instead of a flagpole it’s a belly button filled with syrup surrounded by a fat sweaty belly.

That’s hard and I know where you are coming from. Our community expects winning so much so that we received a lot of backlash because our JV team lost big one week.
Beer helps and talking with my wife always calms me down. Other than that a good weight session and reminding yourself that if you do lose and they run you out there was nothing else you could be doing to win. Knowing I’m doing as good of a job as I can helps me with it all

Admittedly I haven’t read every reply but has anyone addressed the fact the the Drs orders are the dumbest I have ever seen. It’s pretty much standard operating procedure that a kid with a Drs note is out for 2 weeks no matter what it is. It’s annoying but I have never seen one who said they are too hurt for everything but they can do half ? If it says they can do light physical activity then we just sit them anyway cause who cares...go walk the track??? You have to treat her the way you would treat anyone else but in my opinion why waist reps on someone who can’t play Doctors orders may be dumb. But if you don’t follow the dumb doctor you may be dealing with a smart lawyer. You missed my point. Just sit her out. Why practice someone who is injured anyway

Our jr high weight room was tiny, had 4 racks, 4 trap bars and 8 bars we had 50 kids and we got 3 lift in with all of them in 45 min. I would bet dollars to donuts they are A) doing too much or B) inefficient. If they have less than that then they should spend some of that time they spend scouting opponents and get out there and do some fundraising And so if that 45 man team represented a Frosh Squad, and then the OP also had the Varsity to lift, and was using the term "weight room" to describe warm up, lifting, SAQ, and flexibility.... Just saying it is possible. It is also possible that it is an overzealous program that isn't efficient. 2 teams would be a different story. I will rephrase. If that is 1 team even with warm up and everything else involved 2 hrs is too long. With 2 teams it’s still too long in my opinion

What the phuk are you doing for 2 hrs in the weight room?? I would also love to know how you evaluate interest potential? If you self scout in the off season all you really have left is 7 on 7 and the camps you mentioned. Plus WAY to much time in the weight room Doesn't that depend a bit on the size of the team vs the size of the weightroom? Might not be able to fit all athletes in the weight room at one time, so a split schedule could be used. Also, I could see a coach using the term "weight room" referring to all S&C activities. Our jr high weight room was tiny, had 4 racks, 4 trap bars and 8 bars we had 50 kids and we got 3 lift in with all of them in 45 min. What the phuk is there to do in the summer for 30 hours?? We didn't do 30...but, we went through every male in the school and evaluated their interest potential, 2hrs a day in the weight room, last 3 games of last year of several opp. We play this year, re evaluated every game last year, like we were playing a game (coaches only), we went to our own clinic of what we do scheme and technique wise, 7 o 7, o line camp, big man camp, big man camp, What the phuk are you doing for 2 hrs in the weight room?? We don't get a penny extra. So I guess its just what you are used to. How do you ask guys to work 30-40 hours a week for free? Shouldnt there be some sort of consideration for reducing what they do. I know in West Lake TX, they dont even ask their assistant coaches to come in. What the phuk is there to do in the summer for 30 hours??

I want to get some thoughts and feedback on your Summer Schedule and any compensation. I would imagine it would vary greatly from place to place. I have been fortunate enough to have been paid every summer for the past 14 years.(I am at a new school this year) Not that it really matters, but I work a lot in the summer(for Football) and summer pay has allowed me to do that. An extra 2300-3500 goes a long way. This summer was my biggest time commitment, multiple days with multiple practices, JV and Evening 7v7's. Im not going to lie, it really grinds my gears. I am just the OC so its not up to me. I did sit down with the HC and voice my concerns about how long we practice, we reduced one day but went right back to the old way the next. Any thoughts here? Winning in the fall is my compensation

Why are you, the HC, or the kids even worried about this when there are other kids "just sitting on the ground"? Sounds like she is working harder than some of the penis carriers. I think you may say she isn't a problem and none of you care she's female, but it doesn't sound like that's the case. “penis carriers” That is hilarious

Well, I suggest that we look into solutions for the issue: 1. The concussion issue will fade away when concussions stop being prevalent. Make sure that the kids are outfitted with the proper equipment and teach proper tackling, shedding and blocking form. The number of concussions coming out of football around her has dropped significantly since coaches started teaching safer practices. We had more concussions coming out of basketball than football last year. And, the concussions in basketball were far, far worse because a kid rebounded the head off of a floor or a wall. 2.. Press home the importance of being a multiple sport athlete. Sell the other sports programs at every turn; show up to as many basketball games, wrestling matches, baseball games, track meets (etc..) as you can. Being a multiple sport coach certainly helps as well. The football players know I am going to get on them if they're not out for track. If they're out for Legion baseball, so be it.. But, I'm going to be pushing track all year long. 3. Honestly, it seems like we're fighting club sports for kids more and more these days. Hockey and fall baseball are getting popular around here, they're talking kids into specializing and it's a PITA. The best way to counteract this is to promote pride in ALL school athletics without trashing the club sports. Make sports a point of school pride, regardless of the success of certain sports. 4. Successful sports draw participation, PERIOD. Our wrestling program is one of the best in the state and they routinely have 50-60 kids out with a school population of 250. Track draws around 80-90 boys and girls.. We had an ugly season in football last year and our numbers have dropped to the high 30's.. fight fire with fire... Fall baseball? Spring football... Some states don’t allow spring football

Anyone only do "thud" contact in practice? Just thinking if ways to keep our kids fresh and healthy. Right now we go live for 10 minutes 2x a week. The way I see it is that when you are leading up to the season it's important to go live more because you need to see who can and will hit and tackle. In season you are already going full contact once a week for an extended period of time so the need to do it in practice isn't there.

We try to, especially versus scout. Our defense does a good job of not teeing off on the ball carrier, keeping him off the ground etc. Offense is another story.....our line reminds me of that famous line from Spaceballs..... I see your Schwartz is as big as mine?

I’m saying if you call yourself a man and constantly take belittling and personal /physical attacks from anyone regardless or rank/position then you might as well throw a skirt on because you cannot call yourself a man or you tolerate it or suck up to advance .... not me, never will be, not built that way. Trying to make a joke and now I’m “That guy” explaining the joke so hint taken lol Apparently no one is up to date on Targets bathroom policies jeeeeez guys get with the program lol ... was there with my daughter and literally saw a man in a dress come strolling outta the ladies restroom like it was business as usual ... my daughter needed to go , let’s just say I took her to the dunkin dounuts across the street... anyway moving on I can understand your point if you stay more than one year, but if you need the pay check then you just have to suck it up. Physical abuse is one thing I wouldn’t just take but if some one was calling me a dumba$$ at the top of his voice I could handle that. Fans do that anyway

Football is more popular than ever here. We have so many kids out in our junior high that we have had to order new jersey’s for them and we just found out we actually have declining numbers at the school.
Our state association just started an 8 man league with 8 teams to start but it will grow.
I’m no expert but maybe it’s just a regional thing. I’m not seeing declining numbers or hearing any of my friends talk about declining numbers. I’m not saying that anyone here is lying because I’m sure you are seeing it but I wouldn’t be so quick to say that football is on life support

Football is so much more fun when it’s a simple game. The brotherhood, school pride, rivalries, pregame butterflies, hanging out after a game, wearing your jersey to school, etc. is a big part of what made the game fun to play. The overkill of “the process”, scholarships, hudl, etc. has taken some of the purity out of the game. Do those things have their place? Of course. But it should be below what was mentioned above. I’m lucky to work for a coach that still emphasizes this. These past 3 seasons, we’ve really made an effort to back off. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that 3/4 of our school’s winning seasons in its history have been those 3 seasons. All of June and half of July is off for our kids, aside from weight room. We emphasize to our kids that even though the weight room is strongly encouraged, we will not berate you or take away playing time for not showing up. When we stop trying to “keep up with the Joneses” and work our guys like mules, we’ll see this trend of decreasing numbers slow down. But we as coaches need to see the wrong in what we ask of our players first. And like wingtol said, the thread above shows how far we are from realizing that. I like this. I would like to point out that where you are coaching can effect what you do in the summer as well. This is the second place I have worked for my current HC. He isn’t a grinder at all. The last place we were it was 3 days a week for 2 hrs and maybe 1 camp. If we did that at this school and lost he would be fired. We don’t “grind” but we do more than we want just because it’s what the town thinks is required. I would like to take on a struggling program and go 3 days a week. Tuesday Thursday weights and practice and Wednesday team camp and that’s it. I could probably get away with it if the school has not had much success

My 2 cents is that the kids talked him into coming out because they think with him they will win state.
You said you would make a deep run already. Kids aren’t stupid and they want to win. Think how good a state title would be for the program

I script the plays ran but not the calls. Generally I will run a 10 min blitz period where we blitz vs plays. I call out the plays to the scout guy but the play doesn’t matter because I just want them adjusting to the formations if need be.
The rest of the time we work base(game plan) defense.
