I feel like I did that when I was a head coach..... I ran an offense that I didn't face once in 28 years of coaching. I think it helped us and made us harder to prepare for. But I spend years learning and mastering the offense and it fit the kids I had.

Playmaker pro is still the best in my opinion. Problem with it is that it’s a software program that isn’t compatible to other platforms so copy and paste it onto google slides There is a way to do it to word, it is a certain type of image. But Playmaker Pro and work are my gotos.

I think this varies widely- both by location and also by comparison to other careers that require similar entry qualifications. I would say it isn’t a “claim” - as most public school salary schedules are public information. To be fair though-most ALSO do not take the fact that in many cases teachers get paid for 181-190 work days, and the general public is around 225-235. I have that argument a lot with peers.
Yeah, that pay scale can look ugly for a first year teacher with a bachelor's degree. Pick up a masters and a few years under your belt and the financial situation brightens considerably. And, our state's teacher pension is exceptional; I can retire comfortably at 55 years old if I want to.
What state is this? Most states use to be like this, but few still are...

I kind of think he has a point... Does an inadvertent whistle give the offense the choice of the result of the play or replay the down? I would have done it again. If he snapped it at 1... by time the qb back peddled more than a second had passed.. Plus your don't put time back on for an inadvertent whistle.

My cousin's son is a 3 year starter at running back for Ubly right now. Hoping they go on another run. Really?!? Where are you from?
From Freeland originally, but Mom is from Bad Ax and Dad from Harbor beach... Coached in the Lansing Area and SW MI when I lived in the state. Saw they made it to the finals. Should be a great game... The pictures of the snow in Petoskey were crazy.

We are in the D1 (largest division in Michigan) state semifinals next Saturday and I was just sitting here reflecting on how thankful I am to be in this position, and how I'm really just enjoying the ride. I don't know what Saturday will bring, but I've loved every moment of this ride. Currently sitting at 10-2. Have had a lot of roller coaster games where we just keep finding ways to get it done in the end. Idk, enjoy it if you're still playing fellas. We cranked on the lights for practice after school last week and we talked about how you're always in a good place if you need the lights for an afternoon practice. I agree in MI about practicing under the lights... You guys have had a great run in the playoffs.. hope you can keep it going 2 more weeks.

An overrated 4 Tech DL & underrated OT at 6’3” a very strong 195 pounds. Benched 255, Squatted 365 & Deadlifted 400. Never had a timed 40, but I am likely the biggest 2:05 800 meter runner ever. At a Class C team at a school of 300 students I was no more than the 8th best player (9 of us played both ways) as a junior & maybe 5th best player as a senior (8 of us played both ways). Earned 2nd Team All-Conference DL as a Jr & 2nd Team All-Conference OL as a Sr. I made one play when I was completely UNBLOCKED at the 19:01 mark of the video as a DL & it sparked the turning point of the 1st playoff win in school history. I think everyone including my coaches thought I was a better playing DL than O actually was. Really cool knowing I made a big play that played a small part in an amazingly historic season for a small HS in rural Michigan! My cousin's son is a 3 year starter at running back for Ubly right now. Hoping they go on another run.

I'm in an unusually situation were I coach on a military base overseas and we play other schools on other military bases. I get 1 paid assistants and the rest are volunteers from the military.
We are starting spring ball next week and we have ~32 kids (9-12) signed up. I have 10 volunteer coaches (6 other potential) and no one on staff.
My plan to to try to coach the coaches but how would you 10 coaches with those numbers. When we travel because we fly we can only tale 22 so players need to be 2 way players.
1) How would you use the 10 coaches?
2) The paid assistant has to be a school employee. I have no one on staff the know anything about football. I have a female that likes football, would it be a good or bad idea to take her and make her like an administrative assistant and make her do video work too. I don't need more on the field coaches, but I don't want to give the position up either. Good or bad idea?

1) Has anyone ever just published a workout calendar for the month based on the dates of your winter / spring sports schedules while being respectful of those coaches seasons? I guess going away from havbing a set M-W-R schedule and it would vary based on the athletic week schedule?
Yes, always did M-W-F, always found the kids that cared would be there on Friday.
2) For those who have 3 sport athletes, how many days did you expect them to attend the weight room?
Any day they didn't have a game, but also trying to make it a place they wanted to be be and would come and workout even if they had a regular season game,
3) Has anyone had a separate workout program for "in sport" athletes vs. athletes without a spring sport?
Yes, make is shorter and focus on core movements.
4) Any advice for dealing with those coaches who say "oh doing ____ will hurt their swing" etc. etc. aside from showing them the actual research, or getting admin involved?
Show them the evidence, and if that doesn't work, don't waste you time. It has to be the athletes choice or the other sports coach choice to have his time lift during the season.
5) Lastly, We use Teambuidlr app, has anyone trusted their kids who say their "working out at home" (due to their spring sport) and allowed them to use the recording feature on the app? How did it go for you?
No, our team lifts here, we hope you do other things outside of it as a supplement, but if you want credit for the lift you lift here.
Always remind them... lifting isn't mandatory, but neither is winning.

Yes they do and that is why they need true life consequences and education without completely eliminating them from opportunities to learn right from wrong. Kicking them to the curb might make it easy for us but I have a terrible "problem" known as caring about other people and their future. Our society has enough people who have no clue about how to do right. If my players refuse to follow our guidelines and expectations after consequences, then they can and will be dismissed. I am not a rookie. I have been doing this for a long time with a lot of W's and some State Championships. But if all I have to show at the end of my career is trophies and rings then I am a miserable failure. For some coaches seeing their former and current players succeed in life is not a priority, for me it is a huge priority. Not asking anyone to agree with me but also not going to change. What you are after ultimately you are actually able to implement without the extra. That doesnt mean kicking kids to the curb necessarily. Story time. We had a group of kids who were our only real players. They were caught on campus with ILLEGAL DRUGS i.e not pot. You know what the powers that be came up with? They didnt call the cops, they didnt call the parents, they didnt suspend them practicing or playing, they didnt even get written up. “THEY DESTROYED THE DRUGS.” My mentor lost his {censored}. But my mentor, myself and rest of the staff were told it was not our place. But we are suppose to carry the message of doing right, taking care of your buisness… A lot of people have blood on their hands in this situation.

Coach Miller Does a great job and run a big a big time clinic for a fraction of the cost. If you are serious about coaching football, you don't want to miss the Cottonwood Clinic.

Hi Coach, I saw your other post and I thought most people answer things well. I never got any playbooks but I do remember finding Minnesota and I think South Dakota's state championship games in 9man. We basically ran our offense minus the guards... on defense we started off with a 3-3, but switched to a 2-4 with the 2 DL on the inside shoulder of the guards. Our outside backers would walk up on the line versus a TE or a wing. We only played it a year, but could go back to it any year depending on our number and the numbers of our opponents. Feel free to ask anything.

I coached with 2 guys who played for him when he coach in Alabama. School was successful under him and things have gotten worst every year until now where they are the doormat and struggle to win one game each season. They love him and swear by him and wish he never left. Seems to me like the epitome of what is wrong in sports, but everyone has their supporters, and some people want to win at all cost.

What winner’s manual lessons do you remember learning about the most during the season?
In what ways could we improve the winter’s manual integration in this program?
What general life lessons will you take from this season that you feel will help you grow as a person?
Do you feel that the program supported you academically? How could we improve in this aspect?
Did you feel that you were physically safe while playing and during practice? If “No” was there a specific instance or reason?
What offensive techniques, movements, or plays do you feel you learned best?
What offensive techniques, movements, or plays did you struggle with learning the most?
What defensive techniques, movements, or plays do you feel you learned best?
What defensive techniques, movements, or plays did you struggle with learning the most?
Do you feel that all the players on the team were treated fairly by the coaches (please explain)?
Do you plan on playing football again next year?
How much fun was this season for you?
How much did you improve at football this season?
As a whole, do you feel like the coaching staff is Transactional (focus solely on winning and meeting their personal needs) or Transformational (use their platform to teach the Xs and Os, but also teach the whys of life. They help young people grow into responsible adults)?
What is your favorite memory from your time as a Cougar Football player?
What would you change about practice or the practice schedule? Why?
What was the most important lesson you learned during your time as a Cougar Football player?
What is your goal for after high school?
One is one thing you wishes the coaches knew about you that would help them coach you better?

I'm interested as to WHY OL is the hardest to staff in the opinion of many? I've read here that people feel its where you need your best coach, and that they are the position that get the blame; but no reason as to why this position would be more difficult to staff than any other. If we are asking all of our position coaches to do essentially the same tasks with their given position what specifically makes it harder to find someone who can do that task with the o-line? If your 5th best at any other position sucks you are okay, if your 5th best OL sucks you are in trouble. Plus you are taking the most unathletic players and teaching them the most technical positions on the field. IMHO

1)Might have hit a kid in the head with a garbage can, in out locker room, before practice, for not selling enough for our fund raiser. He later apologized. 2)May have mentioned to a kid that he was the reason his dad left. We then commiserated about being from single parent homes. 3)When asked by a parent why their son kept doing a wrestling move improperly and had pinned themselves three time, explained that it was due to being 1/2 a retard. They agreed. 4)Best kid on JV new we couldn't field a team without him so he started skipping practice. I canceled the JV season and brought everyone up to Varsity except for him. 5) 1st practice as a coach. Made all of the linemen do 40 up downs after practice and then I stormed off the field pissed off about lack of effort. One kid passed out and the other kids carried him in. We later hung out in the hospital and talked about how he could improve his effort. 6) Parent wanted to know why their son wasn't even playing on the scout team in practice. Might have responded with It's not his fault just very poor genetics. 4 & 6 sounds reasonable to me.

www.kcci.com/article/lincoln-football-coach-could-face-charges-after-dowling-game/29380717#I'm not going to say the coach was right, because he wasn't. But officials in Iowa aren't doing their jobs keeping kids safe. Last week, I lost my starting rb and qb to uncalled hits oob where they were dragged down in a horse collar and rolled up. Torn mcl, snapped tibia. If you want to be treated with respect, keep the kids safe.you aren't entitled to my deference if you can't protect the players. What foul do you see in the Dowling play? That's shoulder to shoulder contact with possible incidental helmet contact. The defender even turns his head away from the quarterback to make sure he's not hitting with the crown. I'm sorry your players got hurt, but no official can prevent injury... it's a dangerous game. . A flag after the fact wasn't going to un-tear the MCL or un-snap the tibia. I agree, I saw the video from 2 or 3 different angles, one view it looks shoulder to shoulder, the other looks helmet to helmet. I assume because the official was right there he would have heard a helmet to helmet. Am I blind?

..C.............FS.............C ........L........L.........L ............E....N.....E E............G...C...G............E .......S.........Q..........S .................F We had quite a bit of success running a midline option - bubble screen combo off of this formation. We'd run it as a check-with-me type of system or would just call it depending on the alignment of the OLB. Those short edges scare me, but if you are throwing screens and running option, it shouldn't be a problem.

Coach, what were your best plays for those situations? What were you trying to exploit? Honestly, we just ran our base offense (hybrid Wing-T). People forget that the edges are shorter in 8 and 9 man (even with the shorter field) and you can still attack the perimeter, even on the goal line. You're not stuck running between the tackles/ends on the goal line: we converted many 2-point plays running toss or Waggle Keep. Any thoughts on Jet sweeps or unbalanced line?
