I think it was Mike Leach when he was at Texas Tech, said... I'd rather have one good practice, then two crappy practices a day.
But what if you only have one practice, and it's bad?
The problem is the recovery! You can do it but needs to be prepared the whole schedule to avoid injuries and be useful for the physical development aspect

The part that I am struggling to understand is the "no sprint" days. When working on this skills, how do you work on many of the skills by walking or talking? Special Teams? Many of our kids learn best by doing and it will be hard to teach them a skill without allowing them to do it, or having them do it by walking. I am fairly open minded, but how do you work your special teams if kids can't run? How do you work on tackling. I struggle having a kid walk into a roll tackle and feel like that is going to prep him for Friday night? Anyone who has experience with this model care to share how they have adapted it or overcame some of these things to make it work with your program? If i aint wrong its ok to work with skills, he speaks about it in the two articles

Here in Brazil it is a big deal, to show respect for the opponent I don't think anyone is writing that it is wrong to "show respect for the opponent"; rather, we are writing that having your players not take a knee is not a case of being disrespectful. I doubt anyone warms up or gets ready by telling everyone to kneel down and drink water, so why would we choose to do so for a period of time in the middle of the game? I agree with you, actually my last game I think nobody did that because it was the conference championship game. Everybody was so focused in the game, plus the rain, that we just didnt do lol

I guess it should be done at the off season. It looks it is for college or big high school programs. Too much things to control

Accept the penalty. The first play you could use going the snap on first sound or hard count to get the defense off balance And if they don't? Couldn't you do the exact same thing (hard count) on 4th and 18 inches? I swear it was 18 YARDS hahahah

This scenario happened in the state semi-final tonight. I want to get your take on it. -Down 23-15, under 3:00 to play 4th quarter. -You're near midfield. -You pick up all but the final 18" needed for a first down, but there is also a penalty. -If you accept the penalty it leaves you 3rd down and 4. -If you decline the penalty it leaves your 4th and 18". -You have not exactly owned the LOS in the game so there is doubt you could pick up the foot and a half in one play. A QB sneak is not a no-brainer call here. What do you do? Take one crack at 18" or two cracks at 4-yards? Accept the penalty. The first play you could use going the snap on first sound or hard count to get the defense off balance

How do you use a light linemen like that? Especially when they can face a defender that could be heavier between 20 to 50 lbs? I might have to think about that possibility

Hello, my name is Victor Cohen, like I said a lot, I'm from Brazil. I'm trying to make a kind of documentary about my first Head Coaching job but didn't have the time to do the way I wanted. However, I gonna make my journal here. First of all THANK YOU very much! I evolved as a coach and person reading a ton of posts here. I wouldn't be on this position right now without this web site, I have my own, but like I said above, I'm not posting due to my busy routine. So where do I start?
The first D1 NCAA Offense in Brazil
Yup, a lot of coaches try to do this here but unsuccessfully. They try to grab plays and make an offense, a few have a consistent system and you can easily see, heck, normally they are the champions. How did I get on this point if I said everybody is failing? Well, a lot of research and money invested. After I forced to leave, aka fired, I made a promise that would find the suitable offense from what I've seen being around the game since 2010 here. What I found was this interesting method:
- Small teams without experience, Single Wing:
Why? Since they are raw, it would be perfect to begin with some simple, unorthodox and fun offense. You can take your best players, normally it takes some time to develop but you always have a couple (if you are lucky enough, sometimes five) good athletes. Therefore, but the best as TB and WB and let it roll. Nobody run this here, it would make some damage after a couple of months practicing;
- Medium to Power house teams, run first Spread:
With experienced players you can use something fancier, but just a little bit. I was an avid fan of the zone run game because I was a defensive player turned to OC - all of this with a behind the scenes "fight" that happened after a semi final game meltdown with national attendance record of 15 thousand people, a year after the World Cup was played on the same turf - and knew nothing about O. I taught that I knew, rookie mistake. After a couple of months being HC I realized that's easier and fit with our body types of linemen, we are amateurs, so if you are fat you gonna play in the trenches. Plus the big guys love to pull! Idk why more teams don't play with gap schemes!
Now it's about to find the tough SOB to fill the role of H-Back, if I could run any offense it would be UC, but for a lot of reasons it needs to be gun oriented. Shotgun or pistol. Therefore, you need to add some deception and play-action. Likewise, the dual reader defenders are easily fooled down here if you establish the running game. Now Malzahn's offense appears. It all started with his book: "The Hurry-Up, No-Huddle: An Offensive Philosophy". Then, it evolved to his playbooks floating around the web, the receivers are numbered, colors for the playsides, and what the f**k is that?
It took months to begin to understand it. The formations, the motions, the Little Rock-turned-Arkansas concept, the H-Back alignment, the few passing combos/concepts. It all makes sense on our scenario. It all fits together, it makes sense, like a perfect song. Last practice (07/15), without ever really installed the up tempo, it worked magically. Less than six plays we marched the whole field for the score.
I hope I didn't make too many grammar mistakes and I intend to post regularly here. Any feedback is appreciated and other stories about my journey - sometimes not in chronological order - will be featured. Thanks again for all the knowledge I learned, hope some day I can do the same on my country!

Boyd Epley has said that the 10-yard dash, the VJ, and the 20-yard shuttle are the tests that reveal the best athletes. Just in case, do you have a table of results that could inform the minimum for each position?

I'm from Brazil, btw, forget the advanced weights exercises, neither natural skills that don't use a soccer ball, also the coaching staff are former players that have little football knowledge. It'll be a long way, but I'm excited!!!

I was searching for something that I actually forgot but ended up with this topic: how to use different drills to see the players' instincts and natural skills. So I ask for those who have more experience, have you ever used it?
The most used drills I've found were: deer hunter, towel game, rabbit chases, dummy relay races, sumo, hawaiian rules football.
If you use another drills, please, describe them, the reason and what to look for. I'm almost signing to be the new head coach of a team just lost the best three players, the whole idea was to see if I find, for example, a RB that could play DB due to the results of those drills mentioned above.
Thanks in advance!

I have another. This Friday I went to a game and of course, both teams were gun ride action teams with 3-4 receiver sets, slow footed wide outs, and noodle arm qbs. You know, the standard stuff. Early in the 2nd quarter Team A was in a 3rd and Short situation, and got under center and went 3 back power I with TE. The blasted Team B and picked up the 1st down. A little later in that series, they did the same on the goaline to go up 7-3 Here comes the amazing part : The offensive coaches DEFIED THEIR NATURAL DNA and just ran Power I the rest of the night. The final score, 28-3! Great win for society. I cant make it bold the part I want cause I am o the phone, however, the gun beginning part is the description of 90% of brazilians teams lol Im posting on my website different offenses hoping they do something different and think instead of just copy nfl or top 5 ranked CFB teams. I already posted about UBSW, pistol flexbone show gun offense and unbalanced spread SW. The next will be double wing followed by wing t.

Check a doctor, that is the first thing you should have been done. Actually, a normal person needs to go once a year, at least. Its way better discover before any problem than late when your body starts to show ya.
Now being funny, have you ever seen Fight Club? Lol

Looked at film a couple of years ago from a tight game with one of our main rivals. We heard about the play before we got the film and could not believe it. The team lost by 3 points by missing a 30-yard field goal with a really good kicker. The reason he missed it was because a seagull flew by and got hit by the ball just after the ball crossed LOS. Had to see it with my own two eyes to believe it. Unfortunately they could not add: No animals was hurt during this video Tell me, please, is there a way to find that play? PLEASE lol

Here, until last season, some away games we had to travel almost 24 hrs, Brazil is a big country. Nothing like go thursday night, arrive friday evening, do the check in the hotel and sleep. We needed to start to check almost every room because players could lose some sleep playing LoL or whatever.
What is worst is wake up, check out from the hotel and find a cheap place to eat, eat like whale and go to the stadium. The locker rooms here could remind the toilet one from the first Saw movie. Heck, one game we didnt even had one so we took shower at a random gas station on the way back. So no place to nap.
That time after lunch and before the game looks like forever. And some idiot is always dressing late and missing to warm up with his mates, driving everybody crazy. Or johnny somebody forgot a mouth protector, belt, anything like, asking you like the {censored} in the boots from Shrek to help him.

Hello, coaches, I'm a second year OC who jumped from a simple assistant to a coordinator in one year. I've learned by "fire baptism" (a local joke) the details of the role. Last year this forum, I don't know how I stoppes here, helped me a lot and is still helping me.
I also have a website (www.gridiron.com.br) that helps the brazilian coaches with the basic knowledge of the game. If you ever come here and watch some games without traditional teams that will make your eyes bleed. So I wanna assist the game evolve here with the website and some videos.
I really like here and I am starting to become addicted to the threads lol
Sorry for any grammar mistakes, I've never had a really formal education on english.
